Yangsan Mulgeum Italian restaurant for a parents' meal: Bueokgan

My parents said they wanted Western food for the first time in a while, so we headed to Bueokgan Restaurant Yangsan Oslo Park Branch, a well-known Italian spot in Yangsan, Gyeongnam. This time we ordered a bit of everything — gnocchi, pilaf, pasta, and pizza — and were happy with all of it. Bueokgan Restaurant Yangsan Oslo Park Branch is located on the basement level of Building BL, 14 Beomgu-ro, Mulgeum-eup, Yangsan-si, Gyeongsangnam-do.

It's inside Oslo Park, so it's easier to find if you check the building's location beforehand! I didn't check ahead and ended up wandering around a bit... Parking was super convenient though, since there's a lot right inside Oslo Park.

Atmosphere and reservations: when is the best time to go?

The atmosphere is so nice it feels like a date. I think everyone doing a blind date in Yangsan must be here. There are plenty of seats so weekdays are fine, but I'd recommend booking ahead for weekend peak hours! Group tables especially seemed to be reserved even on weekdays.

Four dishes to share: gnocchi, pasta, pizza and pilaf

Since I went with my parents this time, I ordered one of each kind to share.

The pilaf was a must because of my dad — I originally wanted to order the abalone risotto, but it was sold out the day I went, so I didn't get to try it. Ordering a variety made the table so colorful and it looked great too.

My parents said that even though it had been a while since they had Western food, nothing was too rich or greasy, everything came together well, and the seasoning was spot on. They were very satisfied.

Truffle mushroom cream gnocchi and arugula prosciutto pizza

First up was the truffle mushroom cream gnocchi. If you're going with your parents, I'll just say: order this one, no question. The truffle aroma hits you the second it arrives, and it has a texture kind of like potato sujebi (hand-torn dough soup) — my parents genuinely loved it.

The cream sauce had a gentle truffle aroma layered with mushroom flavor, giving it a rich, savory depth.

The gnocchi had a chewy yet soft bite, and the thick cream sauce clung generously to each piece, filling your mouth with a savory richness!

The mushrooms especially cut through the richness of the cream while adding umami depth!! The subtle truffle aroma that builds the more you eat paired really well with the cream sauce! The combination of chewy gnocchi, thick cream sauce, truffle, and mushroom worked beautifully together.

Piled with arugula: the prosciutto pizza at Bueokgan

Bueokgan is pizza!! I've been to several Bueokgan branches and the pizza is genuinely delicious every time. Our arugula prosciutto pizza had a fantastic combination of fragrant arugula and salty prosciutto.

Arugula's distinct bitter, fragrant edge cleanly balances the rich prosciutto flavor, and eating it together with the savory cheese and chewy dough in one bite made for a great flavor balance — good, good, good.

Thanks to the arugula in particular, even eating several slices felt lighter and fresher than expected, not heavy at all. The salty prosciutto and fragrant arugula combo is basically foolproof! And the Yangsan Oslo branch doesn't skimp on arugula at all — they pile it on generously, which makes it even better.

Pairing it with Bueokgan's signature green tabasco sauce makes it even more delicious!!

Shrimp anchovy oil pasta and kung pao chicken pilaf

If you love aglio e olio, I highly recommend the shrimp anchovy oil pasta. We ordered it mainly for ourselves, but surprisingly it turned out to be my parents' #1 pick among all the pastas.

The shrimp anchovy pasta was salty with a real punch of umami. The distinct anchovy flavor didn't overpower things and blended well with the oil, and the plump shrimp added great texture too.

The noodles soaked up the anchovy's salty umami nicely, tasting light yet subtly addictive.

The kung pao chicken pilaf comes with a huge chicken drumstick sitting in a sweet-and-spicy sauce.

Behind the salty umami, a gentle spiciness creeps up — if you accidentally bite into a chili, you might briefly black out, so be careful, haha.

The sauce coats every grain of rice so well that you can't stop reaching for more. If you love fried rice, you'll definitely love this one!

The bottom layer is slightly crisped like nurungji (scorched rice), giving it the feel of eating at an actual fried-rice specialty spot. Scooping up chicken and rice together gives you the chewy chicken texture, crispy rice, and sweet-spicy sauce all in one great combination.
