Daehangno western restaurant with a window bar table: Omil Hyehwa

In short

Omil Hyehwa Daehangno is a cozy Western-style restaurant on the second floor at 35 Daemyeong-gil in Jongno-gu, Seoul, near Daehangno. We ordered the sizzling cheese katsu (19,900 won), the Rubber Duck omurice (16,900 won) and the Omil soba maki (12,900 won), and the cheese katsu came hamburg-steak style with minced meat, tender with none of the usual dryness. The rubber duck plush and mini tube are yours to take home after the meal, so Omil works just as well for a date as for a family dinner.

Sizzling cheese katsu, 19,900 won: hamburg-steak style and tender

🧀 Sizzling cheese katsu (₩19,900) It arrives on a piping-hot sizzling plate with creamy sauce pooled underneath. The visual alone grabs your attention.

A generous, silky, thick cream sauce is poured over it, with golden roasted corn pieces, fresh broccoli, and cherry tomatoes adding color alongside.

Cutting the round katsu in half reveals mozzarella cheese stretching out from the inside.

The outside is crispy while the inside bursts with juicy, cheesy richness — a perfect match with the smooth cream sauce.

Though it looks like a round, plump ball katsu on the outside, the meat filling is actually made hamburg-steak style using minced meat.

Unlike a regular loin pork katsu with a chewy bite, the finely minced meat melts smoothly in your mouth with no dryness at all. The meat's own richness and juiciness are maximized here.

The moment you take a bite, the creamy sauce's savory richness fills your mouth — it's excellent. There's plenty of sauce, so it's great to scoop up generously with a spoon or pair with other dishes.

Rubber Duck omurice, 16,900 won, and the plush you can take home

🐥 Rubber Duck! Omurice (₩16,900) The ultimate visual dish! A shallow plate arrives filled with soft swirled omurice and rich sauce, topped with a lineup of adorable quail-egg ducklings.

A little green palm-tree parasol prop is planted right in the center of the plate, completing the storybook scene of baby ducks vacationing on a warm southern beach!!

The adorable ducklings made from quail eggs are lined up in a row, as if following their mother.

On the small round quail eggs, eyes are dotted in with black sesame seeds and cute beaks are drawn with yellow mustard sauce — you can feel the owner's careful touch in every detail.

Alongside the omurice, the plate also comes with an adorable rubber duck plush wearing pink sunglasses, plus a colorful mini tube. It's not just for looking at and returning — it's a gift 🎁 you get to take home after the meal!

Under the soft, fluffy egg lies a delicious fried rice that adds heartiness to the dish.

You're first amazed with your eyes, then fall in love all over again with the cute baby duck and rubber duck tube details — and the taste of Hyehwa Omil's 'Rubber Duck! Omurice' was just as good, so I fell even harder for it.

Omil soba maki, 12,900 won: eat it with wasabi

🥢 Omil soba maki (₩12,900) This signature side dish rolls chewy buckwheat noodles, crunchy vegetables, and a sweet, soft Japanese-style egg roll into a thick seaweed wrap, all on Omil's special sauce base.

The cute expression drawn on the egg roll makes your eyes light up first.

The buckwheat noodles' clean flavor pairs perfectly with the crunchy vegetables, making it a refreshing side to pair with the main dishes.

This soba maki tastes light and good on its own, but adding a bit of the wasabi that comes with it is genuinely the pro move!

The sharp kick of wasabi cuts through cleanly, leaving a crisp aftertaste that pairs beautifully with the rich, creamy Western dishes.
