Maybe it's because I finally got to meet people I love, but I actually thought hard about where to go. My favorite teacher said she wanted makchang (grilled intestines) at an outdoor patio. So I looked around and Supbul Makchang came up — a place to properly enjoy makchang outdoors. My heart was already racing just thinking about eating with people I love. I was cheerful the entire day from the moment my shift started, honestly just happy all day. Straight to dinner, go go.
Where is Supbul Makchang, and what are the hours and parking?
Supbul Makchang is located at 18 Daemyeongcheon-ro 42-gil, Dalseo-gu, Daegu, and is open 17:00 - 24:00, with last order at 23:00. If you're taking public transit, it's close to Jukjeon Station — about a 16-minute walk, which is a nice distance to stroll. If you're driving, there's a parking lot available, so I'd recommend parking right in front.

The look of Supbul Makchang from the street

Supbul Makchang is surrounded by bamboo forest like this, evoking a grandmother's house in the countryside. The concept is an '80s-'90s rural mountain village grandmother's home. It feels just right for soaking in forest and nature, and my heart was already excited thinking about the oak charcoal fire.

Right out front, the outdoor patio spreads out like this. They even light mosquito coils so you don't get bitten out there. We had booked patio seating in advance, so we headed to our assigned table.
Inside Supbul Makchang and out on the patio

Here's how the interior of Supbul Makchang looks. Above all, I liked how clean it was. It has that classic BBQ restaurant feel, easy to sit down and relax in.

There's group seating available, so you can sit down comfortably. With the wood tones and a ventilation fan right there, it has a cozy feel — really evokes a grandmother's house, which I loved.

Most tables range from 4 to 8 seats, which is great. Perfect for family gatherings whether small or large.

The self-serve bar has vegetables plus all kinds of side dishes and sauces. We love piling scallions and peppers onto our dipping sauce, so we refilled it freely.
What the bamboo-grove patio is like

The patio seats can freely fit 4-5 people. Since we'd booked ahead, our table was all set up and ready, which was great. We settled in to properly enjoy the nature of the forest while eating outdoors.
What five people ordered at Supbul Makchang, and what it cost

The menu had all sorts of options. But we ordered based on our taste. With five of us there, we wanted to try a variety of dishes. There were three types of meat to choose from, which was great. Since we had work the next day, we skipped alcohol and went with sparkling Coke instead.

What does Iberico makchang (130g) taste like?

Here's how Supbul Makchang's Iberico makchang arrives. They prepare it with potatoes and grilled mushrooms on the side. The makchang comes out neatly plated, already pre-grilled once, which I appreciated.
Since it was already pre-cooked, it was easy to finish grilling and eat.
Knowing I blog, my friends' hands were suddenly all business.

We grilled the makchang until it looked just right to eat. No gamey smell, perfectly clean — that crispy exterior already stood out.
I was already excited for the pure flavor of the Iberico makchang itself. Tried it lightly with just salt.
One bite in, it's delicious as expected. Crispy on the outside, moist inside — that crispy-outside-tender-inside texture was exactly what I wanted. It coats your mouth with just the right amount of oiliness. The more you chew, the more the nuttiness comes through.
Tried it straight with the dipping sauce too. The sauce itself is sweet, which works well. Piling on scallions and peppers on top is the real move. Iberico makchang can get greasy, but it paired so well with the sauce :) I highly recommend loading it up with peppers and scallions.
Korean whole galmaegisal, 130g

The Korean whole galmaegisal (skirt meat) arrives beautifully arranged like a flower. The visual alone already looked mouthwatering.
We grilled the Korean galmaegisal piece by piece. Since we ordered 2 servings, we got right to grilling.
Thanks, guys :) They quickly cut it with scissors, which I appreciated.

I tried the Korean whole galmaegisal plain first. And it's genuinely delicious. Since it's whole galmaegisal, it's clean-tasting yet the juices burst out — the meaty aroma is strong and the flavor is rich.
Of course I ate it with salt too. That made the galmaegisal's juiciness even more pronounced. The chewiness and nuttiness of the meat made me happy. Above all, the savory depth kept me eating bite after bite. This was my first time trying whole galmaegisal, and I loved it — perfect for a family meal.
Garlic-smothered hanwoo galbisal, 100g: why we ordered a second round

The garlic-smothered hanwoo (Korean beef) galbisal comes with garlic piled generously on top. It already looked mouthwatering. We started by ordering just 3 servings.
For the garlic hanwoo galbisal, they swap out the grill plate for us. Grilled over charcoal, so I was excited to eat the hanwoo without any gamey smell.

One bite in, it's delicious as expected. The savory depth of the garlic hanwoo galbisal is great. Sweet soy sauce with a sharp kick of garlic. Being hanwoo, it practically melts in your mouth. Not overcooking it, keeping it just slightly done, makes it tender. It dissolves right in your mouth, which I loved. The sharp garlic kick works so well. And since it's grilled over charcoal, the garlic even develops a sweetness.
Tried it lightly with salt too. It doubled down on both the sharp garlic flavor and the sweetness. It can be a little salty, so I'd recommend just a light dip. Honestly, the garlic hanwoo galbisal was so delicious that we didn't hesitate to order more and enjoyed it even further.
Hamhung mul naengmyeon, 8,000 won

You can't skip Hamhung mul naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles) when eating grilled meat. A must-order for dessert.
We boldly cut through it with scissors. Rather than cutting twice, one clean cut is the way to go.
We poured on plenty of vinegar and mustard. We prefer loading up on vinegar, which also helps prevent blood sugar spikes :)

One bite in and it's refreshing. Above all, the tanginess cuts right through the richness of the meat. Going from hot meat to cold noodles is an irresistible combination.

Meat plus Hamhung naengmyeon is truly the real deal. The meaty aroma and clean flavor of the meat with the tanginess of the noodles — anyone who really knows meat can't resist this combo, you just keep eating.
Shepherd's purse doenjang stew, 4,000 won

Here's how the nasturtium soybean paste stew arrives. They load it with tofu and various other ingredients.

There's meat in the nasturtium soybean paste stew too. Of course we ate the tofu and meat, and it felt filling. As they say, Koreans don't feel like they've really eaten unless there's rice. Naturally moving from protein to carbs — this keeps blood sugar spikes in check while eating a truly satisfying meal. The stew's flavor itself is fairly mild, which makes it perfect to pair with any meat and rice.

Is Supbul Makchang worth it for a patio makchang dinner in Daegu?
I'm satisfied with how well we enjoyed makchang on Supbul Makchang's patio. Being outdoors, there's a real risk of getting bitten up by mosquitoes. But they lit mosquito coils for us, so we had zero worries and thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Above all, every meat is grilled over charcoal, so it's clean and free of any gamey smell.
Everything was delicious, but my top recommendation is the garlic-smothered hanwoo galbisal. We liked it enough to order extra, so I genuinely recommend it. Starting with makchang and ending with the garlic marinade is just the right way to go. If you're looking for an outdoor-patio makchang restaurant in Bolli-dong, Daegu, give Supbul Makchang a try. If you want to enjoy that outdoor-patio atmosphere surrounded by nature, definitely visit Supbul Makchang.
