Vegetable menchi katsu and Taiwan ramen in Yeoju: Gyugyu Donkatsu

In short

Gyugyu Donkatsu is a tonkatsu and ramen Japanese restaurant on Junae-ro in Yeoju, Gyeonggi, where the signature Gyugyu menchi katsu (minced pork cutlet) is stuffed with broccoli, eggplant and shiitake mushroom. One table ordered the lunch set of chashu ramen with pork loin and tenderloin cutlets for 16,000 won, the menchi katsu for 15,000 won and Taiwan ramen for 12,000 won, comparing the mild chashu broth with the spicy Taiwan ramen. I was hunting for a lunch spot in Yeoju and ended up at Gyugyu Donkatsu!

There are more tonkatsu and ramen options in Yeoju than you'd expect, and this time I was looking for somewhere I could eat cleanly and comfortably, which is how I found this place.

Gyugyu Donkatsu mainly serves tonkatsu along with a variety of other Japanese dishes, so it seemed like a good spot for a family meal or for a hearty lunch in Yeoju. The restaurant itself was pretty clean, and parking was available, which made it easy to visit by car.

Let me go through the dishes I tried and the overall vibe of the place in detail :)

Where is Gyugyu Donkatsu in Yeoju, and what are the hours?

Gyugyu Donkatsu is located at 57 Junae-ro, 1st floor, Yeoju-si, Gyeonggi-do. It's open Tuesday to Sunday, 11:00–21:00, with a break time from 15:00–17:00 and last order at 20:00.

Lunch last order is until 14:30, so if you're planning a lunch visit, it's best not to go too late. Since break time starts at 3pm, definitely check the timing if you're heading in for lunch!

Inside Gyugyu Donkatsu: clean, easy seating for a sit-down meal

Walking in, the interior was neatly kept overall. It wasn't a stiff, formal Japanese-restaurant feel — more bright and spacious, comfortable for a casual meal, and it seemed like it wouldn't feel like a hassle to bring the whole family.

With parking available and high chairs on hand, plus a menu ranging from tonkatsu to ramen, it looked like a great place for a family to each pick what they're in the mood for.

Gyugyu Donkatsu menu and prices: what we ordered

Gyugyu Donkatsu has a full lineup from classic tonkatsu to menchi katsu, katsudon, and ramen. There's also a separate lunch menu, so if you're visiting around lunchtime, it's worth checking out the set options.

What I ordered was:

  • Lunch chashu ramen + pork loin + tenderloin set — ₩16,000
  • Gyugyu menchi katsu (Gyugyu signature cutlet) — ₩15,000
  • Taiwan ramen — ₩12,000

Rather than just ordering one dish, sharing a few different items to compare flavors turned out to be a great call.

The signature Gyugyu menchi katsu, stuffed with vegetables

A plate of the signature Gyugyu menchi katsu

The first thing I want to talk about is the signature menchi katsu! Personally, menchi katsu can turn greasy and heavy if it's fried even slightly wrong, to the point I sometimes can't finish it — but this one was nutty, clean, and genuinely delicious.

Cross-section of the menchi katsu showing its crispy coating

The coating was super crispy while the inside stayed moist, and every bite had that juicy, meaty texture still intact — hugely satisfying! It reminded me of the real menchi katsu I had on a trip to Japan, so it was a dish that really won me over.

What really stood out was that the center of the cutlet had broccoli, eggplant, and shiitake mushroom tucked in ‼️ Unlike a typical meat-only menchi katsu, biting into vegetables here and there was a really appealing texture and flavor.

Chashu ramen in the 16,000 won lunch set: mild and savory

Chashu ramen included in the lunch set

I also tried the chashu ramen (roast pork ramen) included in the lunch set. Overall it had a nutty, clean flavor that's hard for anyone to dislike, making it an easy style to enjoy.

It leaned more toward an easy-drinking ramen than something with a strong, punchy flavor, and it paired really smoothly with the tonkatsu. If you're craving both tonkatsu and ramen, this lunch set combo would be perfect!

Want a spicy broth? Order the Taiwan ramen

A bowl of spicy Taiwan ramen

Personally, the dish that hit my taste buds even more than the chashu ramen was this Taiwan ramen. It's built on a rich pork bone base with added spice, and the moment I took a sip of the broth, the spicy, tangy kick hit right away, leaving me feeling refreshingly cleared out 🔥

This dish would be perfect on a day when you're craving something spicy and deep for lunch! The mild chashu ramen and the fiery Taiwan ramen each have their own charm, so pick according to your mood.

The self-serve Yeoju rice bar: a small touch worth noting

And one small but genuinely lovely detail was the rice.

True to a solid Yeoju lunch spot, they serve rice cooked from local Yeoju rice, and each grain was glossy and nutty — a fantastic match with the tonkatsu 🌾 You can help yourself to more at the self-bar, so portions felt very generous, and I left feeling comfortably full and satisfied.

Final verdict on Gyugyu Donkatsu

  • A signature menchi katsu that's crispy, moist, and never greasy, with an authentic Japanese feel
  • A varied ramen lineup, from the nutty chashu ramen to the spicy Taiwan ramen
  • Glossy, delicious Yeoju rice & generous, well-rounded menu portions
  • A spacious, comfortable interior with parking and high chairs for an easy visit

Overall, Gyugyu Donkatsu was a great place to visit when you want quality tonkatsu and ramen in one spot. From the hearty menchi katsu to a ramen broth you can pick to match your taste, the variety and generous portions made it a solid choice for a filling lunch.
