Korean BBQ with brisket doenjang ramyeon in Yeoju: Hwassi2192
In short
Hwassi2192 Nam-Yeoju Branch 2 is an oak-wood grill house on Yeojunam-ro in Ganam-eup, Yeoju, Gyeonggi, a short drive from Shinsegae Yeoju Premium Outlets. The writer ordered the 59,000 won pork platter of belly, neck and jowl, which the staff seared over oak and grilled at the table, then finished with doenjang ramyeon (soybean paste noodle soup) with beef brisket. Because the meat is seared first, the fat renders off and the pork tastes clean, making Hwassi2192 an easy stop before or after outlet shopping.

This is Hwassi2192 Nam-Yeoju Branch 2, a Yeoju restaurant I stopped at before heading into Shinsegae Yeoju Premium Outlets to shop. All the meat comes pre-seared, and the staff grill it for you at the table, so all I had to do was eat, haha. Normally at a Korean BBQ place you end up grilling it yourself and reeking of smoke by the end, but here it was hassle-free — plus the meat is pre-seared over oak charcoal so there's no gamey smell, and since there's no charcoal moving around the dining room, it felt like a safe spot to bring kids too. Here's the review!

What Hwassi2192 looks like from the street

This Yeoju restaurant is a standalone single-story building, with parking right out front, and the lot itself is spacious too.
Does Hwassi2192 have a private room?

Inside there's a spacious main hall plus a private room toward the back. The private room looked great for family gatherings or group meetups, haha.

There's a self-serve bar where you can grab more side dishes if you run out.

Since I'd made a reservation, the basic table setting was already ready when I arrived.
The side dishes were wild chive namul, perilla leaves, pickled radish for wraps, ssamjang (dipping sauce), garlic, salt, onion, kimchi, and lettuce — the perilla leaves and pickled radish were layered one sheet at a time, which made them really easy to grab and eat with the meat, haha.
Hwassi2192 menu and the 59,000 won pork platter price

This Yeoju restaurant also has Korean hanwoo beef and eel on the menu. What I picked was the pork platter with belly, neck, and jowl together, for ₩59,000.

There were several kinds of wine too, and you can also order pork items individually.

If you come for lunch, there's also a lunch special available.

I also ordered a dwenjang ramyeon (soybean paste noodle soup) with beef brisket to eat after the meat, haha.

After ordering, there was a little guide on the table for how to eat it deliciously, so I gave it a read.
Side dishes and the complimentary steamed egg

This is the shredded green onion side dish that comes standard — for me, this pairs best with the meat, along with the perilla leaves and pickled radish.
Also, not many places give steamed egg as a free service these days, but it came included here. It arrives in a stone pot and wasn't too salty, which I liked.

The lettuce for wraps was clean right down to the edges, and the leaves themselves were fresh.
The pork platter, seared over oak and grilled by the staff

The meat comes pre-seared over oak charcoal, then gets grilled once more on the tabletop pan — it cooks quickly so it's easy to eat, and having the staff grill it for you as a service was really convenient, haha.

They even added kimchi and garlic to the pan while grilling.

Since it's pre-seared, less oil than expected came out while grilling on the pan — the fat had already rendered off, so it was light and clean.

With a perilla leaf and a piece of pickled radish layered together, it was really easy to grab one at a time, haha.

It was tasty wrapped in lettuce with shredded green onion and a dip of ssamjang, and just as good eaten plain. There wasn't any gamey smell at all.
How was the brisket doenjang ramyeon at Hwassi2192?

The dwenjang ramyeon had bean sprouts and tofu in the beef brisket and soybean paste broth — it felt a bit like a soybean paste somyeon (thin noodles). The brisket inside was tender and tasty too. Best of all, eating it after the meat completely cut through the richness, haha.

For dessert, there were two coffee options to finish with — a brewed coffee machine and instant coffee. It's close to Shinsegae Yeoju Premium Outlets, so the location is great to stop by before or after shopping, and the staff were friendly and grilled everything for me, which made it especially easy. The meat was delicious too, so it's a place I'd like to come back to. If you're looking for a good restaurant near the Yeoju outlets, how about Hwassi2192?
