Gijang Korean restaurant, 10:30 opening with a toddler: Kkomak Hansang

In short

Kkomak Hansang Gijang Main Branch is a South Jeolla-style Korean set-meal restaurant on the first floor of Morning City in Oshiria, Gijang, Busan. Two adults and a 4-year-old arrived right at the 10:30am opening before shopping at Lotte Outlet Dongbusan and ordered cockle bibimbap, a beef pancake set for two and one extra bowl of rice, and the child happily ate the pollack pancake and seaweed soup. With baby chairs, sofa seats and partitioned tables, Kkomak Hansang works easily for a family meal with a small child.

Cockle bibimbap and beef pancake set at Kkomak Hansang Gijang Main Branch

This weekend we went to Lotte Outlet Dongbusan to check out Zara Kids' fall clothes, and since I heard there was a good Gijang restaurant nearby to visit with a kid, I stopped in. This is Kkomak Hansang Gijang, a cockle set-meal place.

How do you park at Kkomak Hansang Gijang Main Branch?

What's on the Kkomak Hansang menu?

As soon as we got off on the first floor, Kkomak Hansang Gijang came right into view. There was an easy-to-read menu with pictures, so if you're wondering what to order, this should help you decide :)

Looking at the Kkomak Hansang menu, every dish includes their signature ingredient, cockles (kkomak). The most important ingredient, cockles, are apparently brought in fresh every early morning from Beolgyo — now I'm really curious how they taste :)

If you order one of the set meals made with fresh cockles, you get their deep, savory signature dishes — seasoned cockles in their 20-year secret soy sauce recipe, beef pancake, dried corvina, pollack pancake — served South Jeolla-style with 12 side dishes. I'd definitely recommend trying one of these full set meals at this Gijang spot.

Kkomak Hansang at weekend opening time: mood and seating

This is the inside of Kkomak Hansang Gijang on a weekend visit. We deliberately came early right at opening time, but as it got closer to peak hours, this huge space filled right up.

*If you're visiting on a weekend, I really recommend booking ahead!!

As a restaurant that's great to visit with kids and parents, they have baby chairs, sofa seating, and even partitioned booths for a more private feel — spacious, clean and comfortable, perfect for a meal. I loved the full-length window view so much I sat by the window :)

Individually wrapped spoon, chopsticks and a paper cup set on the table

We ordered comfortably and checked out the can't-miss review event :) I loved that the spoon and chopsticks came individually wrapped, and paper cups are so much better than glasses with water stains!! Haha (also less stressful when a kid drops one...)

What two adults and a 4-year-old ordered at Kkomak Hansang

We came as 2 adults and a 4-year-old, and ordered cockle bibimbap, a beef pancake set for two, and one extra bowl of rice. (Ages 10 and up must order a main menu item.)

Cockle bibimbap, savory and tender beef pancake, seasoned cockles, and 12 handmade side dishes — this neat, generous Kkomak Hansang Gijang spread is so filling..!!!

What did the 4-year-old actually eat?

I went back and forth between beef pancake and the dried corvina set for the kid's food, but the cockle bibimbap looked so good visually that I gave up on the corvina — and she ate it well, so thankful..! Haha. Good kid-friendly picks were the seaweed soup, beef pancake, fried eggplant, and pollack pancake!!

I tried the pollack pancake first worried it might be spicy — the fish inside was so tender and delicious that I immediately removed the decorative chili pepper, checked for any large bones, and fed it to her, and she ate it really well!!

She couldn't handle the cockle bibimbap yet since it's spicy, so she had the plain rice we ordered along with seaweed soup, squash namul, bean sprouts, and more — with a kid there was no need to order extra since there are so many side dishes to share, so no worries there, and there was enough variety that even mom enjoyed the meal :)

A bite of beef pancake wrapped in lettuce

How the cockle bibimbap, beef pancake and 12 side dishes tasted

The seaweed soup had big chunks of fish too, tender and delicious, and the cockle bibimbap wasn't too salty and had no fishy smell, so it just kept disappearing into my mouth :) We ate the shredded scallions and beef pancake, wrapped some in lettuce, and by the time we tried all 12 side dishes, there was so much food I felt like I'd burst...!!!!

It really felt like we enjoyed a full spread rather than just a single bowl — a very satisfying restaurant.

Who is Kkomak Hansang Gijang best for?

I'd recommend Kkomak Hansang Gijang to anyone looking for a great Gijang Korean restaurant to eat with kids and family, or to bring parents along to. For anyone looking for a restaurant near Lotte World Busan, near Haedong Yonggungsa Temple, near Songjeong Beach, or near the Gijang outlets, this is a low-effort option that's not far out of the way — perfect for a hearty, comfortable meal to end a day of travel, shopping or an outing in Gijang :) Next time I'll go try the dried corvina set haha.
