Yeongdeungpo café for peach yogurt salt bread: BYWAY BAKERS

A spacious bakery café near Yeongdeungpo-gu Office Station

Walk just a little from Exit 1 of Yeongdeungpo-gu Office Station on Line 2 and you’ll spot it. It was so nice to find such a big bakery café in Seoul—they’re not that common~!

Once inside, I was surprised by how spacious it was. Even for a bakery café, there were plenty of seats, so it never felt cramped even if you stayed a while! The customers were varied in age, too. There were tables of friends chatting away, couples who looked like they were on a Yeongdeungpo date, and older visitors—all comfortably enjoying the atmosphere.

I went in most excited to see what bread they had, and there was so much to choose from! Trendy chocolate baguettes, bagels, financiers, tarts, pretzels, sandwiches, and more >ㅁ< The display was packed with all kinds of bread, just as you’d expect from a bakery café, so I had the happy problem of deciding what to pick 😊

Wakkpu salt bread!!!! This was the menu item I was most looking forward to that day. I was SO excited that I could finally try Wakkpu salt bread. (You only get one go at smashing a Wakkpu ball, but Wakkpu salt bread gets to go into my stomach, you know ;ㅁ;) I had gone there intending to get the peach yogurt Wakkpu salt bread from the start, so I picked peach without hesitation!

I ordered an egg tart, peach yogurt Wakkpu salt bread, an Americano, and orange hallabong tea.

The staff gave me plastic gloves, so I smashed it with my own hands—and yes, this really was Wakkpu~~ It was fun how crisply it shattered. (It’s a GIF so you can’t hear it, but I was smashing it while squealing hahaha)

When I split it open, I gasped at how full it was of peach. Layers of yogurt cream and peach pieces meant a fresh burst in every bite, and the white chocolate coating was perfect too! The salty base characteristic of salt bread paired with sweet peach yogurt made the sweet-salty balance perfect. It was seriously delicious ㅠㅠ It reminded me once again that trends become trends for a reason. If you like seeking out great salt bread, I really recommend trying it at least once. It absolutely holds its own as a spot for the Wakkpu salt bread everyone is talking about lately!

Egg tart and drinks, too

The egg tart was generously filled too, with a thin pastry shell. The outside was crisp and the inside was full of soft custard; it was delicious in a different way from the Wakkpu salt bread, so I think choosing both was the right call.

I’m avoiding coffee while pregnant, so I had orange hallabong tea while my husband had coffee. The coffee was an easy, nicely matched choice, while the orange hallabong tea was sweet and tangy—especially refreshing served cold in summer. Since the bread leaned sweet, having it with a tart drink left my mouth feeling refreshed. It seems like a great place both for good coffee and for tea varieties!

A welcoming stop for solo visits, dates, and gatherings

There are window-side seats for one, so I think it would be lovely to come alone too haha. If it were close to home, I’d probably go there as if I were commuting to work ㅠ Why isn’t there somewhere like this near my house?

They also sell little goods like phone grips and pens haha. I was really pleased with this visit: a broad, comfortable space; an atmosphere where people of all ages can relax; and, most of all, the chance to experience Wakkpu salt bread for myself. It works beautifully for a gathering or date, bread lovers will have fun browsing the variety, and it would be perfect to add to a Yeongdeungpo dessert tour.
