Weekend date at a Seongsu European restaurant: beef tartare at Sedici

In short

Sedici is a European restaurant on the first floor of the Arc Valley building, right by Exit 2 of Seongsu Station in Seongdong, Seoul. On a weekend date, a husband and wife added brioche to the beef tartare for 3,000 won and shared three plates in total, along with sweet corn fried gnocchi and squid ink vongole. The mix of boldly and mildly seasoned dishes, plus two hours of free weekend parking, is what made Sedici worth the trip.

My wife and I decided on a Seongsu date this weekend. There are so many good restaurants in Seongsu that picking where to eat is always the hardest part whenever we go. Through a good opportunity, we ended up visiting Sedici, a Western-style restaurant in Seongsu. I heard their signature dish is gnocchi, and since I love gnocchi, my expectations went way up!

Does Sedici have parking? Two hours free on weekends

Sedici offers 2 hours of free parking on weekends and 1 hour on weekdays. You know how huge 2 hours of free weekend parking is in Seongsu, right, haha. Weekdays are only 1 hour free, so make sure to check before you go!

Sedici is located on the 1st floor of the yellow-exteriored Arc Valley building, which you'll see after coming out of Exit 2 of Seongsu Station and heading into the alley toward Raseong Grocery Mart.

Every item on Sedici's menu is à la carte, with a balanced spread of salads, gnocchi, pasta, and mains. Adding ₩3,000 to the beef tartare gets you brioche on the side. Here's what we ordered — three dishes in total.

  • Beef tartare + brioche add-on
  • Sweet corn fried gnocchi
  • Squid ink vongole

Beef tartare topped with laver pesto and pickled shallots

Sedici's beef tartare is made with top round and eye of round, topped with laver pesto, pickled shallots, and chives. Maybe thanks to the pickled shallots, the first bite hits refreshingly tart. On its own, though, the seasoning is pretty strong.

Beef tartare served with brioche

The laver pesto adds saltiness, and that's where the brioche really shines. Piling the tartare onto the soft, buttery bread balances the seasoning out perfectly — the combination is really great.

If you're ordering the beef tartare, I definitely recommend adding the brioche.

Sweet corn fried gnocchi at Sedici

Fried gnocchi in sweet corn cream

If you like sweet corn soup, you'll love this dish. The sweet corn cream has actual corn kernels in it, so you still get that popping texture.

Cross-section of crispy sweet corn fried gnocchi

The seasoning is mild rather than strong. I personally prefer baked gnocchi over boiled, and since this one is fried, it's crispy outside and fluffy inside — totally my type.

Squid ink vongole at Sedici

Squid ink pasta with cockles, squid ink vongole

The squid ink vongole uses cockles instead of manila clams. With cockles, the umami is richer, and… the price is a bit richer too, haha.

The squid ink has that distinct salty edge, so alternating bites with the sweet corn gnocchi hit the perfect sweet-and-salty balance.

My wife loved it so much she scraped up every bit of the sauce!

Is Sedici a good date-night dinner spot in Seongsu?

Seongsu's Western restaurants often have great atmosphere but predictable menus. Sedici stood out with unexpected ingredient combinations like laver pesto tartare and sweet corn gnocchi, which made choosing genuinely fun.

Table at Sedici with three dishes being shared

The dishes vary in seasoning intensity, so it's great for ordering several to share. Not having to worry about parking is also a big plus for driving to Seongsu. If you're looking for a date-course restaurant in Seongsu with parking, I recommend Sedici for pasta and gnocchi that go beyond the usual.
