Seoul coffee shop after a Mangwon Market grocery run: PICT Roastery

Hi, it's Sub :) Today I visited my older sister's studio in Mangwon-dong, and since I heard a new café had just opened nearby, I rushed right over. It's close to Mangwon Market and Mangridan-gil, so it's a great spot to pop into while out on a walk. The matcha Basque cheesecake and americano combo I enjoyed 🤎 Let's get into the review!

Where is PICT Roastery Mangwon Branch, and when is it open?

PICT Roastery Mangwon Branch is a café at 45 World Cup-ro 23-gil, Mapo-gu, Seoul, between Mangwon Market and Mangridan-gil. It's open Wednesday to Friday from 11am to 7pm, and Saturday to Sunday from 11am to 9pm, closed regularly on Mondays and Tuesdays — worth checking before you go.

A poster covered in figs for the French toast caught my eye — it is fig season these days after all 🍎 I'd just had lunch and was too full to order it, but it's definitely on my list to try next time.

Here's the menu! Takeout gets you a 1,000 won discount on any item. Coffee options include americano, café latte, vanilla bean latte, cappuccino, café mocha, and black latte. (Decaf is available too, but it's 1,000 won extra!)

Non-coffee drinks include mint lemon ade, Kyoto matcha latte, and choco latte, plus teas like Wedding Imperial, Marco Polo, and Jardin Bleu, so even non-coffee drinkers have plenty of options. Desserts include aged French toast, Kyoto matcha Basque cheesecake, and pistachio tiramisu *^^*

You pay at this little mini kiosk, and Toss Pay works too! We ordered the Kyoto matcha Basque cheesecake for 7,500 won, an americano (changed to decaf) for 5,900 won, and a café latte for 5,500 won ☕️☕️

Semi-basement window seats: how to get a table

PICT Roastery Mangwon Branch is semi-basement with floor-to-ceiling windows, so you can watch people passing by outside. It was packed with customers, so I only got a few interior shots, but there are seats that feel like solo spots, perfect for reading a book or getting a bit of work done.

This is where my sister and I sat — cute wooden table and chairs 🪑🪑 exactly this vibe lol. You have to claim a seat first before ordering!

Here's the overall feel of the café ~! On weekends it's super popular so getting a seat is tough 💦 Still, if you put your name on the waiting list, your turn comes around pretty quickly.

How does the Kyoto matcha Basque cheesecake taste?

The Kyoto matcha Basque cheesecake was 7,500 won, and it came out in under 5 minutes. The coffee arrived in a cute mug, and they gave us a matcha choco cake along with it.

Ta-da ~ here's everything we ordered, and the coffee-cake combo was spot on.

I've had regular Basque cheesecake and Basque choco cake before, but this was my first matcha version, so I was excited. The moment I took a bite, the rich matcha flavor hit 💚 It was soft and melted in my mouth right away. Sweet yet deeply matcha •• the 'Kyoto' in the name isn't for nothing. (When I'm PMS-ing, I could honestly eat five hundred slices of this.)

☕️ The coffee came in a cute mug with a bunny drawn on it ☕️ There was a straw too, if you want to use it. Americano really is the best match for a sweet cake — I think I chose well haha

Of PICT Roastery's three desserts, I want to try the pistachio tiramisu next time. Unlike other cafés, it was nice to be able to taste some slightly distinctive desserts! Hehe, thanks for the food :)
