Mangwon coffee shop, Seoul: 15-min Saturday wait for fig toast, PICT

My boyfriend and I were wandering around Mangwon Market and suddenly wanted to sit down somewhere with good dessert, so we ended up at PICT Roastery Mangwon!

A poster for fig French toast caught my eye, so we decided this was the place to try this time.

PICT Roastery Mangwon Branch: location, parking and hours

PICT Roastery Mangwon Branch is at 45 Wolgyeok-ro 23-gil, Mapo-gu, Seoul, on the 1st floor.

It's only about 387m from Mangwon Station Exit 2 — a 5-minute walk, easy.

If you're looking for a café near Mangwon Market, it's well positioned either before or after browsing the market. There's no dedicated parking lot, so if you're driving, use the Mangwon 1-dong Community Center parking lot or the Mangwon Market public parking lot.

Hours run Wednesday to Friday 11:00–19:00, and Saturday and Sunday 11:00–21:00, with Mondays and Tuesdays as regular closing days.

We visited on a Saturday and the place was already full, so we waited outside for about 15 minutes — but the weather was nice and we were chatting, so the time flew by haha.

Inside the Mangwon-dong café: sunlight through floor-to-ceiling windows

PICT Roastery Mangwon Branch is technically on the 1st floor, but it has a bit of a semi-basement feel — once you sit down, sunlight streams in through the picture window.

Unlike the bustling energy of Mangwon Market outside, the café interior had a cozy, warm atmosphere.

House-roasted beans, chosen to your taste

PICT Roastery is apparently a specialty coffee café that recently opened in Mangwon-dong, following its Magongnaru location.

They handle everything from green bean roasting to extraction in-house, and I liked that you could check the bean types and flavor notes to pick one suited to your taste.

The PICT menu also had black tea, mint lemonade, Kyoto matcha latte, and chocolate latte besides coffee, but at a place like this, you just can't order a regular drink,,

Midnight Cacao vs Aricha Bouquet americano

We both ordered americanos — one nutty Midnight Cacao and one acidic Ariça Bouquet, so we could share and compare.

Midnight Cacao had a coffee flavor with the bitter, subtly sweet notes of dark chocolate and cacao. It didn't leave a heavy aftertaste, so it paired nicely with the French toast.

You honestly can't tell them apart by looking haha. Ariça Bouquet had a soft acidity — not lemon-sharp, but more like a less-tart fruit. If you like coffee with bright acidity, Ariça Bouquet might be more your style!

For anyone sensitive to caffeine, they also had Brazil Cerrado decaf beans available.

What does the aged fig French toast taste like?

My boyfriend begged for the aged fig French toast, saying he hadn't had a single fig this fall.

It costs ₩17,900, and they told us it takes about 20 minutes to be toasted and brought out after ordering, so we chatted while waiting.

Apparently they use bread aged in egg batter for over 24 hours, and maybe that's why the inside was so moist — the texture was like the bread melting softly, almost like pudding.

On top there's a thick pistachio cream and crushed pistachios sprinkled on. It was heavier and sweeter than expected. My boyfriend's palate found it too heavy — he ate two bites and gave up, so I gave him a light smack on the head and ate the rest myself^^ (this is your fault I'm gaining weight, seriously....)

Eating it together with the fresh fig topping made it more manageable for me! Among French toast spots in Mangwon-dong, this is exactly the sweet, moist style that some people will absolutely love.
