Gwanghwamun coffee shop with a hand-drip bar and red cordial: Center

In short

Center Coffee Gwanghwamun is a specialty coffee shop in the SFC Mall basement, right by Exit 5 of Gwanghwamun Station in Jung-gu, Seoul. An americano, a red cordial and an Earl Grey lemon tart made the order, and Center Coffee Gwanghwamun keeps a hand-drip bar inside plus generous space between seats; nearby Cheonggyecheon is a short walk after coffee. It suits both dates and solo café time, especially if you want a non-coffee drink paired with dessert.

Center Coffee Gwanghwamun is close to Exit 5 of Gwanghwamun Station and sits inside SFC Mall right on the main road, so it's easy to find. It's in the mall's basement level, which is packed with good restaurants worth wandering around too. Inside Center Coffee Gwanghwamun: hand-drip bar and seating

The Center Coffee Gwanghwamun space is on the larger side, with a dedicated hand-drip bar set toward the back. Wood tones, minimal furniture, and generous spacing between seats stand out.

The store was fairly spacious, and the clean, modern interior caught my eye the moment I walked in. Wood tones and minimal furniture came together for a look that felt both comfortable and sophisticated overall.

What really caught my attention was the dedicated hand-drip bar. The whole café was filled with a subtle, elegant coffee aroma, and the expertise and sincerity of a true specialty coffee brand came through clearly, which raised my trust in the coffee even further. I'm planning to try the hand-drip coffee next time.

The dessert lineup — cakes, tarts, financiers, butter bars, and more — was varied, and every single one looked pretty and appetizing enough to pique my curiosity.

This time around I ordered the americano, red cordial, and Earl Grey lemon tart!

Everything looked so pretty I could already tell it would taste good too 🤍 Each menu item had such standout colors that I couldn't help but take photos.

How do the americano and red cordial taste?

The americano really showed off Center Coffee's standout bean quality. It was clean with no off-flavors, and a well-balanced acidity filled the whole mouth. Even just from the basic americano, you can immediately tell how serious they are about coffee ✨ The red cordial was sweet and tangy with none of that artificial sweetness — just the fragrant flavor of real fruit, so it wasn't heavy at all and felt refreshing. This is my top recommendation among the non-coffee menu!

Pairing the Earl Grey lemon tart with coffee

This dessert pick was a total win 🍰 On top of a nutty, crisp tart shell were layers of fragrant Earl Grey cream and tangy lemon curd, and they came together beautifully. I had no idea Earl Grey and lemon paired so perfectly — it worked great alongside both the iced americano and the red cordial.

As you can see in the photo, the Earl Grey cream was piled generously, which made it even better haha. The cream was so soft it just melted in my mouth.

Coffee and dessert seen from side-by-side seating

Such a nice café for sitting side by side and chatting away. The dessert was so good I'm planning to try other cakes next time.

After coffee I walked along Cheonggyecheon nearby and it was proper healing haha. I was surprised how pretty Cheonggyecheon has gotten 👀 With its cozy, comfortable atmosphere, seriously good desserts, and a genuine dedication to coffee, this place is a strong recommendation for a date course too. It's also great for visiting alone to enjoy some quiet time or read a book, and just as good for chatting away with a partner or friend 🫠 8 Blue Ribbons says it all, right?
