As I opened the café door, I noticed blue ribbons packed densely on the entrance glass. Turns out this place has been selected in the Blue Ribbon Survey for 8 years straight, from 2018 to 2026! My trust in the coffee shot up instantly. Confirmed: a Gwanghwamun coffee spot with serious credentials, 8 years running on the Blue Ribbon list!

Wood-and-brick interior and the in-house goods corner

Inside, Center Coffee Gwanghwamun blends warm wood tones with brick to create a mood that's cozy yet stylish. The space is spacious and the seats are comfortable, making it great for conversation or just relaxing.

On one side of the store, there's a display of drip bags, coffee capsules, beans, and cups for home-café users.

They also have thoughtfully packaged gift sets, so it's worth a visit if you're looking for a Gwanghwamun café for gift shopping.

The menu board and three drinks ordered at Center Coffee Gwanghwamun

The counter menu board lists espresso, lattes, and decaf options, plus a variety of fragrant teas and handmade drinks. There's also a specialty brewed coffee lineup. The three drinks I ordered were, from left, Panama Geisha, Orange Bianco, and Pear Lemon Ade.

Each order came with a card describing the specialty beans, so it was fun reading up on what beans and ingredients were used.

This specialty coffee was hand-selected from a visit to a Panama farm this past April. Just as the cup notes described, elegant bergamot aromas along with a sweet-tart raspberry and strawberry finish filled my mouth. Thanks to the gentle acidity and clean cup, I got to experience a whole new charm of coffee. A wonderful cup that was worth every won.

🍊 Orange Bianco, the signature drink

One of Center Coffee's charming signature drinks. A base of sweet-tart orange juice blended with smooth milk and espresso made for a great balance. The bitter espresso and bright orange harmonize beautifully — a latte-style drink that anyone can enjoy without much debate.

🍐 Pear Lemon Ade, the caffeine-free pick

A non-coffee ade with refreshing lemon and a subtle pear flavor that maximizes the crisp, cooling sensation. Cold, sweet, and tart, it wiped out my thirst in one go. The sweetness wasn't an artificial syrup taste but clean and refined, so I enjoyed it to the last sip without getting tired of it.

What desserts fill the showcase?

Cakes and baked treats to pair with coffee are beautifully arranged in the showcase. The 'Decai Pure Milk Cream Cake' and the 'Mathilda Chocolate Cake' especially caught my eye — I'll definitely have to come back and try dessert with coffee next time.
