Euljiro snack bar combo set with a Coolpis chaser: Hyeonseoni-ne
In short
Hyeonseoni-ne Cheonggye Instant Branch is an instant tteokbokki (spicy stir-fried rice cake) snack bar on Namdaemun-ro near Euljiro 1-ga Station in Jung-gu, Seoul. Hungry after a walk along Cheonggyecheon stream, the writer ordered the combo set — tteokbokki, mixed fried snacks, chapssal sundae (glutinous blood sausage), mini gimbap (seaweed rice rolls) and swirl fish cake — at the mild spice level, and rated the chewy wheat rice cakes and the squid fritters and kimmari dipped in the broth as the best part. With the pan scraped clean and a Coolpis soda to finish, Hyeonseoni-ne is a fitting last stop on a Cheonggyecheon outing.

Walking in off Cheonggyecheon: finding Hyeonseoni-ne near Euljiro 1-ga
Hyeonseoni-ne Cheonggye Instant Branch is a tteokbokki (spicy stir-fried rice cake) snack bar at 112 Namdaemun-ro, Jung-gu, right next to Mega Coffee near Euljiro 1-ga Station. These days when the weather's nice and you walk along Cheonggyecheon stream for a while, you get quietly hungry, you know?
If you're near Euljiro 1-ga Station or around Jongno looking for proper snack food with that old-school vibe, Hyeonseoni-ne is a must-stop. The Yongsan flagship is famous too, but this Cheonggye branch right by the stream really lets you soak in that instant-tteokbokki mood — I loved it.

The moment I got near the shop, that distinctive sign and the spicy-sweet smell of tteokbokki hit me — basically impossible to walk past. Combined with the retro vibe of the Euljiro alleys, right at the entrance I just knew: "okay, I'm about to eat way too much today." The seating was just right too — plenty of atmosphere and comfortable to eat in.
What comes in the Hyeonseoni-ne combo set?

I looked at the menu the second I sat down, but honestly the answer was already decided. Ordering just one plain item at Hyeonseoni-ne would be disrespectful, haha! You have to order the combo set to enjoy everything at once.
The Hyeonseoni-ne combo set is basically the all-star lineup of the entire snack-food universe.
- Tteokbokki (spicy stir-fried rice cake)
- Mixed fried snacks (kimmari, vegetables, sweet potato, squid, etc.)
- Chapssal sundae (glutinous blood sausage, can include organ meat)
- Mini gimbap (seaweed rice rolls)
- Swirl fish cake (essential for cutting the heat)

Which spice level? Mild is still plenty spicy
The first thing that comes to mind with Hyeonseoni-ne is "spicy," right? You can choose spicy / medium / mild, and people who can really handle heat go straight for spicy without hesitation. I like spicy food but I'm a total lightweight, so I went mild — and it was still deliciously spicy, just right.
The first spoonful of broth hit the tip of my tongue with that sharp, tingling heat, and it was so good.

It's not just capsaicin-blasted flat heat — the aroma of nicely spicy red pepper flakes mixed with sweet vegetable broth gives you that classic "it's spicy but I keep eating it" addictive quality. The rice cakes are wheat rice cakes, so they're soft yet chewy — the texture is just art.

The four sides: fried snacks, sundae, mini gimbap and fish cake
The big four sides — fried snacks, sundae, mini gimbap, and fish cake — worked together so well. The real value of the combo set comes from how these sides play off each other.
Mixed fried snacks dipped in tteokbokki broth
The crispiness was insane. You could tell the oil was clean and not overused. The squid fritters especially were packed full, and the kimmari was stuffed tight with glass noodles. Tasty even plain, but dipped into the thickened, spicy tteokbokki broth, the heat that rushes in after the crunch is pure bliss.
Chapssal sundae with lung and liver
No gamey smell at all — really moist and glutinous. The chewy texture of the sundae acts as a great buffer against the intense heat. The lungs and liver that come alongside are fresh too, perfect for dipping into the tteokbokki broth.
Mini gimbap
Simple ingredients with a nice sesame oil aroma, but somehow it has a huge presence when eaten alongside the tteokbokki. When your tongue's numb from the spice, popping one of these in instantly tames the heat.
Swirl fish cake
The fish cake was bouncy and soft, and the broth was deep and rich — genuinely delicious. This place really knows fish cake.
Verdict: the perfect finish to a Euljiro and Cheonggyecheon walk
Even though I felt like I was about to burst, I couldn't put my spoon down and scraped the broth clean. After a Cool Piss soda to finish, all my stress just melted away.
Hyeonseoni-ne Cheonggye Instant Branch feels less like a place that just sells food and more like a space that fully restores that old-school feeling of sitting around a burner with friends after school, adding extra noodles and chatting away. If you want that Euljiro old-shop vibe on a Cheonggyecheon date or a hangout with friends, I can confidently say this is the best spot for guaranteed happiness at a totally reasonable price.
If you're near Euljiro 1-ga Station or Cheonggyecheon and thinking "I really want proper spicy instant tteokbokki today," don't hesitate — run to Hyeonseoni-ne and get the combo set. You will not regret it!
