Ogeum-dong brunch for two with sunset arugula ciabatta: Grid Cafe

In short

Grid Cafe is a handmade bakery and dessert café on Macheon-ro in Ogeum-dong, Songpa, Seoul. On a weekend morning drive to visit the in-laws, a couple stopped in for a jambon-beurre ciabatta sandwich, an egg tart, a nutty cream shot decaf and an iced Americano, then liked the bread so much they added a sunset arugula ciabatta. Between the Fritz beans in the coffee and the crisp-outside, soft-inside egg tarts, Grid Cafe is an easy brunch pick in Ogeum-dong.

Quiet Ogeum-dong alley near Seongnaecheon stream

Ogeum-dong is such a quiet residential neighborhood that having a café like this feels like a real treat. It's near Seongnaecheon stream, so it's nice for a walk too, and perfectly on the way from the in-laws' place.

Grid Cafe's entrance with a white-toned exterior

The small sign and clean white exterior felt less like a neighborhood bakery and more like a local bakery you'd find in Europe. We got there on a weekend morning right as the bread was being freshly displayed — felt lucky ^-^

Inside Grid Cafe: is it good for a solo visit?

Grid Cafe isn't a big space, but the layout doesn't feel cramped and the natural light is great, making it comfortable whether you're eating alone or having brunch as a couple. The glass display case full of bread catches your eye right away.

What we ordered: the jambon-beurre ciabatta sandwich

As a couple, we ordered an egg tart, jambon-beurre sandwich, arugula ciabatta, nutty cream shot decaf, and an iced Americano (Jaldwaegasina, light acidity).

  • Egg tart
  • Jambon-beurre sandwich
  • Arugula ciabatta
  • Nutty cream shot decaf
  • Iced Americano (Jaldwaegasina, light acidity)

The jambon-beurre ciabatta sandwich was honestly better than expected. The focaccia-like bread had air pockets like it was alive — crisp on the outside, moist and soft inside. (Not chewy at all~~) The bread itself tasted so fresh that one bite in, I thought 'oh, this is that feeling I had eating bread in Europe.' 🫶 The sauce, arugula, ham, and cheese balanced perfectly — healthy but totally delicious. My husband was so moved he suddenly stood up and ordered another arugula ciabatta, haha

A light brunch flavor that even locals in Italy would probably love.

The ciabatta's texture is a work of art~~~~!

Ciabatta: a mild-flavored Italian bread. Crisp outside, chewy inside — a vegan bread with no sugar, no butter, no egg, no milk.

Nutty cream shot decaf and the Fritz-bean iced Americano

Grid's cream shot (decaf) has a whisper of cinnamon drifting over the cream, and it's weirdly addictive. The cream is so smooth and rich in density that one sip fills your mouth completely.

It's on the sweeter side, so it worked well as a dessert on its own (kind of like eating a slice of cake...). I took it to go and sipped it slowly.

The iced Americano (Jaldwaegasina) — they said it uses Fritz coffee beans, and you can definitely taste that light acidity. Not thin at all, more like a refined americano flavor. 🖤 Paired with the bread, it went down clean and refreshing. Anyone who likes acidic coffee would probably love this.

The owner really knows their stuff, using Fritz beans... Even the plain americano had real care put into it!

Sunset arugula ciabatta and egg tart

The sunset arugula ciabatta (₩4,000) had a slightly crisper texture than the jambon-beurre. Dipping it in tomato, cheese, and basil olive oil makes it even more fragrant. The arugula and basil aroma really came through, healthy but full of flavor. (How can it be this good!)

Warm, crisp, so delicious we polished it off in no time... I'd love to pack a huge order next time we visit the in-laws and share it with them. If they like bread, they'd definitely love this.

The egg tart wasn't just crisp-outside-moist-inside — more like crisp-outside-soft-inside. The pastry shell had flaky, crisp layers, and the filling inside was as moist and soft as an egg pudding made by a Japanese artisan. 👍

The moment you bite in, the soft filling spreads through your mouth, and it disappears fast. Sweet but not heavy, so you keep reaching for more. If you love egg tarts, you have to try this one. 💛 Got a cream latte to-go to savor slowly~~

Final verdict on Grid Cafe, an Ogeum-dong neighborhood bakery

Grid Cafe isn't a big space, but both the bread and the coffee felt like they were made with real care. Having a bakery café like this in the neighborhood would genuinely make me happy. Next time I want to try every kind of salt bread.

A small local bakery café with European vibes — if you love focaccia-style bread, this place is totally your thing! If you're passing through Ogeum-dong or Gaeryong-dong and craving brunch or coffee, give Grid Cafe a try ♥︎
