Sokcho sashimi shop with flounder-and-dab platter: Jinmi Hwareo Center

In short

Jinmi Hwareo Center is a sashimi shop in unit 145 of the sashimi center on basement level 1 of Sokcho Tourist Fish Market in Sokcho, Gangwon. A farmed sashimi platter for two, made up of flounder and dab, was packed about 10 minutes after ordering, and Jinmi Hwareo Center added vinegar-chili sauce, soy sauce, wasabi, lettuce, garlic and cheongyang peppers so the whole meal could be laid out at the accommodation. The portion was generous for two people, making Jinmi Hwareo Center a satisfying choice for sashimi takeout in Sokcho.

Today I'm bringing you a review of Jinmi Hwareo Center, where I picked up sashimi to go inside Sokcho Tourist Fish Market during a Sokcho trip! You can't come all the way to Sokcho and skip sashimi, right, haha. We packed ours to eat comfortably at our stay, but the inside dining space was actually pretty spacious too, and the menu ranged from sashimi to snow crab and red crab. Here's my review of Jinmi Hwareo Center, a great spot for sashimi takeout in Sokcho!

Where is Jinmi Hwareo Center, and where do you park?

Jinmi Hwareo Center is on B1 of the seafood center inside Sokcho Tourist Fish Market, unit 145. Head down to the basement from Sokcho Jungang Market and you'll see a row of fish tanks — just look for unit 145. It's open daily from 10:00 to 21:00, with last order at 19:30.

You can park at the Tourist Fish Market parking lot, and they provide a parking voucher. The line to get into the lot was so long that we just parked elsewhere and walked over, haha.

Entrance to the basement seafood center from Sokcho Jungang Market

We were browsing Sokcho Jungang Market and came down through this basement seafood center entrance — combining other market snacks like shrimp tempura or dakgangjeong (Korean fried chicken) with sashimi takeout turned out to be a perfect route.

If you want to go straight to Jinmi Hwareo Center without stopping at the market, come down through Gate 7 of the basement seafood sashimi center! It's right there, so you can find it quickly.

Inside Jinmi Hwareo Center: the shop and its fish tanks

Jinmi Hwareo Center isn't just for takeout — the dine-in area is spacious too. We packed ours to go this time, but the inner seating area was huge.

Seating with generous spacing between tables at Jinmi Hwareo Center

Lots of tables, and the seats weren't crammed together, so it'd be great for eating right there in the market!! If our accommodation had been closer and we hadn't been driving, I would've had sashimi with a shot of soju right here, haha.

The tanks had all kinds of live fish plus seafood like abalone, sea cucumber, and sea squirt, and on one side there were snow crab, red crab, and squid too! All the tanks were spotless and the front of the shop was clean too, which gave it an extra fresh, hygienic feel!!

Jinmi Hwareo Center menu and how to order sashimi takeout

Jinmi Hwareo Center's menu ranges from sashimi platters to individual sashimi and meal items, plus snow crab and red crab courses — if you're eating in, the course meals seemed like a great option too.

We ordered the farmed sashimi platter for two, to go! They prepared it with flounder and dab, and apparently the fish types for the platter vary a bit day to day. I'm a dab lover, so getting exactly dab made me so happy, haha.

About 10 minutes after ordering, it was packed and ready! They packed it carefully, so we headed straight to our stay with it.

Opening the flounder and dab platter for two at the accommodation

Jinmi Hwareo Center's farmed sashimi platter for two was made up of flounder and dab. As soon as we got to our stay, we pulled it out and set it up, and even before opening it, it was neatly arranged and looked great.

Tada✨ Here's the farmed sashimi platter for two, made of flounder and dab! At first I worried the two fish might not be much, but once it arrived, the portion was bigger than expected — no need to worry!!

Flounder and dab sashimi platter set up on the table at the accommodation

Honestly... sashimi is always so good no matter when you eat it... look at that color... I love flounder... I love dab...

You could really tell it was freshly caught and prepared — it looked genuinely fresh and springy the moment you saw it.

Thickly sliced flounder and dab sashimi

The slices weren't thin at all — they were cut nice and thick, which I loved!! The flounder was chewy as expected, and the dab had more texture and springiness, so eating them together was truly delicious!!

A drink poured alongside the sashimi platter

Can't resist a drink with sashimi, right? So we mixed up a somaek (soju-beer cocktail) and got started.

Vinegar-chili sauce, soy sauce, and wasabi provided with the order
Lettuce, garlic, and cheongyang peppers for wrapping the sashimi

And they also gave us basic sauces and vegetables — vinegar-chili sauce, soy sauce, wasabi, lettuce, garlic, and cheongyang peppers — which was so nice! Since we were traveling, packing all that stuff ourselves would've been a hassle, so having it all ready made it so easy to enjoy at our stay.

Chopsticks picking up two pieces of dab sashimi

and picking up two pieces of dab at a time like this✌🏻 The portion really was a lot, so we kept grabbing two pieces at once, haha.

And the fins!!! Chewy... springy and nutty... genuinely so delicious. The kind of taste that makes the drinks go down easy!! Relaxing comfortably at our stay while eating fresh, delicious sashimi was truly healing.

Is sashimi takeout from Jinmi Hwareo Center worth it?

The main dish of this Sokcho trip was sashimi takeout from Jinmi Hwareo Center. We ordered the farmed sashimi platter for two and enjoyed both flounder and dab — the portion was generous enough for two to eat at our stay, and they gave us sauces and wrap vegetables too, making it easy and delicious.

This time we went for takeout, but the inside seating was spacious and the menu had a lot of variety beyond sashimi, like snow crab and red crab, so next time I definitely want to try eating in. If you're looking for a fresh, delicious sashimi takeout spot in Sokcho, stop by Jinmi Hwareo Center at Sokcho Tourist Fish Market!!
