Sokcho Jungang Market flounder sashimi to go: Jinmi Hwareo Center

In short

Jinmi Hwareo Center is a takeout sashimi shop in the basement fish hall of Sokcho Tourist Fish Market (Jungang Market) in Sokcho, Gangwon. Two of us ordered the flounder and rockfish combo set for two and ate it back at our accommodation, and Jinmi Hwareo Center packed lettuce wraps, chojang, wasabi, garlic and chili with it, plus a parking ticket for the market's public lot when we mentioned it at the counter. Fresh fish, everything included, and no parking fee to worry about.

Where is Jinmi Hwareo Center in Sokcho?

Jinmi Hwareo Center is a sashimi restaurant inside the basement 1F fish market hall of Sokcho Tourist Fish Market (Jungang Market). The address is 16 Jungang-ro 147beon-gil, Sokcho-si, Gangwon-do, and it's open 10:00–21:00, though hours may shift on market holidays. If you're driving, they'll give you a parking ticket for the large public parking lot at the market.

Every time I visit Sokcho, I look forward to sashimi and a bottle of soju almost as much as the ocean views! This time, instead of a noisy sit-down restaurant, I planned to grab sashimi to go and enjoy it properly back at our accommodation.

We parked at a Kakao T parking lot! Jungang Market parking gets pretty complicated..!

I did a ton of searching for where to get sashimi that would be fresh, generous, and guaranteed not to disappoint. 'Jinmi Hwareo Center' kept coming up as a famous, well-established takeout sashimi spot with a loyal following. The moment I heard it was a hidden local favorite that only insiders know about, I didn't hesitate — I headed straight there, heart racing a little.

The shop is located inside the basement 1F fish market hall of Sokcho Tourist Fish Market (Jungang Market), a must-visit stop in Sokcho, so it was really easy to find. If you're driving, you can park comfortably in the market's dedicated large public parking lot.

When we told the owner we'd take our sashimi to go, they made sure to hand over a parking discount coupon so we didn't have to worry about parking fees. Wandering through the market alleys and following the clearly marked signs down to the basement fish center made it easy to find, even on a first visit — truly one of the best sashimi restaurants at Sokcho Tourist Fish Market.

Inside Jinmi Hwareo Center: the tanks and the shop

Heading down to the basement fish center and arriving in front of Jinmi Hwareo Center, I was struck by the lively market atmosphere and the large, spotlessly maintained tanks. The water was so clear that I could see the flounder and rockfish swimming around vividly! The owner greeted us with a warm smile right from the entrance, which put me in a great mood immediately. From the cleanliness of the tanks to the owner's friendly banter, everything was on point — it was clear why this place has such a reputation as one of Sokcho's top sashimi takeout spots.

Ordering the flounder and rockfish set for two to go

What we ordered at Jinmi Hwareo Center was the flounder and rockfish sashimi combo set for two, packed to go. We picked the classic combination that's hard to go wrong with, so the two of us could eat well. As soon as we ordered, the owner scooped out lively fish straight from the tank and started preparing them right away!

The sashimi was cut thick with careful, skillful knife work, and packed neatly and thoroughly with lettuce wraps, chojang, wasabi, garlic, and chili peppers. In the owner's careful hands, I could really feel the generosity and dedication that so many customers praise about this local Sokcho favorite. With this level of guaranteed quality, I decided that from now on, this is the sashimi restaurant at Sokcho Tourist Fish Market I'll always come back to.

It got jostled a little on the way back, but I fell in love with how chewy and delicious the sashimi was..!!!

How the flounder and rockfish tasted back at the room

The moment we opened the package back at our accommodation, the glossy sheen on the flounder and rockfish was jaw-dropping. The slices weren't too thin — just thick enough to have a satisfying chew, with incredible texture! Dipping the flounder lightly in wasabi soy sauce first, a sweet, nutty flavor burst out with every bite, and the chewy texture of the rockfish was simply a work of art.

They even generously included flounder fin (engawa), the tastiest and nuttiest part of the fish, which was such a nice surprise. Not a hint of fishy taste, just pure freshness — every bite made it obvious why this is such a well-loved sashimi takeout spot among both tourists and locals in Sokcho.

Thanks to the fresh, generous flounder and rockfish combo, we had such a satisfying, perfect dinner party back at our room. Great price, exceptional freshness, careful packing, and friendly service — nothing was missing. A completely satisfying visit overall.
