Sokcho live-fish sashimi shop, ₩70,000 ice-packed: Jinmi Hwareo Center
In short
Jinmi Hwareo Center is a live-fish sashimi center on basement level 1 of Sokcho Tourist Fish Market in Sokcho, Gangwon. Flounder plus rockfish came to 70,000 won, with abalone and sea squirt thrown in free, and the owner asked how long the drive to our accommodation would take before packing everything in ice so it could be plated exactly as sliced. Both the rockfish and the flounder were still springy and fresh, so Jinmi Hwareo Center is an easy recommendation for sashimi takeout in Sokcho.

Hi everyone! While looking for a place to pack sashimi to go on my Sokcho trip, I ended up at a fish center in Jungang Market that locals apparently swear by. Turns out it really is a great spot for sashimi takeout in Sokcho..🫶🏻 I love fresh-cut live-fish sashimi, and this place delivers the real thing. This is Jinmi Hwareo Center, located inside Sokcho Tourist Fish Market!

How to find Unit 145 in the Sokcho Tourist Fish Market basement

The fish center is on the basement floor of Sokcho's Jungang Market. I was browsing the market and headed downstairs.

Right after entering through Gate 7, Jinmi Hwareo Center was right there. Super easy to find.

Just look for Unit 145! The owner greeted us so warmly.

The variety of fish was impressive, and they even had snow crab! The abalone looked super fresh too.
Isn't the range of fish species really something?! I don't know much beyond flounder haha.. there were so many fish I'd never seen before. If you love sashimi, you'd have a great time here. All the seafood looked fresh, and the tanks were spotless too, which made me trust the place even more..👍🏻
The snow crab was huge too lol, I swear it was bigger than my head😆
The menu and our order: flounder and rockfish for 70,000 won

This is the Jinmi Hwareo Center menu. These prices seem to be for eating in! Since we planned to eat back at our accommodation, we got ours to go.

We ordered flounder + rockfish. It came to ₩70,000, and they threw in abalone and sea squirt for free🖤

While waiting for the fish to be sliced, I looked around — the place is huge. Seemed like a great spot to sit down for sashimi and a shot of soju too..🤤
Ice packing for the ride back: how the sashimi spread looked at our stay

All packed up! The owner asked how long it would take to get to our accommodation and then ice-packed everything. Such a thoughtful touch..🫶🏻

We plated it right after getting back to our accommodation. They packed it so carefully that not a single piece had shifted out of place haha.

Garlic, chili, wasabi, soy sauce, ssamjang (thick soybean paste), chojang (vinegared chili sauce) — nothing was missing, and they gave us plenty of lettuce too!
The sea squirt, clearly fresh just from looking at it, was packed like this too.
How did the flounder and rockfish taste?

Time to dig in! Can you see the glossy sheen on the sashimi..?🥹 The color alone was insane. I was so eager I caught the chopsticks in the shot too lol.
Since it was sliced fresh right there, the sashimi was so fresh! I thought the portion might be small, but it turned out to be more than expected. Flounder on the left, rockfish on the right.
The rockfish's texture was out of this world. Completely chewy. This is exactly why you eat live-fish sashimi ㅠㅠㅠ freshly caught, chewy, and delicious.

Dip it in chojang and it's absolute perfection.. you all know that part of the rockfish is the best bit haha.

I usually prefer rockfish sashimi, but the flounder here holds its own! Nice and chewy with great texture.

We ate this with the older members of the family, and they enjoyed it too, saying the sashimi was fresh. Sashimi has to be sliced at a proper fish center, that's for sure haha. If it satisfies the older generation's palate, that says it all >_<

Even the fin!! The texture of the fin was great, so delicious. Totally crunchy-chewy..♡ The fin is the best part, isn't it ㅠㅠ
The free abalone and sea squirt at Jinmi Hwareo Center

I can't eat sea squirt so I couldn't try it, but the sea squirt lovers in our group said it had a strong aroma and ate it happily.

The complimentary abalone too!! So delicious ㅠㅠㅠ everything tasted great, clearly because it was so fresh.. no fishy smell at all in the abalone, and the crunchy texture was still intact, so it was such a treat to eat 🤤

Every single part of the sashimi was delicious, we ate so well🖤 Definitely a solid spot for sashimi takeout in Sokcho..👍🏻
