Deokeun Jangeo Gwangyang Branch: hours and parking
Deokeun Jangeo Gwangyang Branch is an eel direct-sale grill restaurant at 101 Hangman 9-ro, Gwangyang-si, Jeollanam-do, over near the Yi Sun-sin Bridge. It's open daily 11:00–21:30, with a break time of 14:00–16:00 and last order at 20:30. There's also a parking lot.
My condition hasn't been great lately and I feel low on energy, so I came for some grilled eel ~ ! Hoping I leave here fully recharged 🥲
Being near the Yi Sun-sin Bridge, Deokeun Jangeo boasts a gorgeous view ... how about some grilled eel while looking out at the sea?
At the entrance there's a coffee machine and a sign ! They raise the eel themselves before selling it, which makes it feel so trustworthy ~~
Eel prices: buy on the 1st floor, grill on the 2nd floor
Deokeun Jangeo Gwangyang Branch posts prices per kilogram, and if you visit for lunch you get 10% off. Sounds like lunch is the way to go ..?! A whole 10% ..

You pick your eel on the 1st floor first, pay, and then once you add the table-setting fee upstairs on the 2nd floor you're ready to eat ! I picked out a nice plump one, ㅋ.ㅋ
Takeout is available too, so it'd make a great gift ! You can also use Gwangyang Sarang gift certificates, so we can fill our stomachs .. and keep our wallets thick ..
With Chuseok coming up soon, eel would make a nice holiday gift too !! I should consider it myself. There's also a Naver receipt review event giving out free ice cream on the 1st floor ! Grab one after your meal ~~
Eel really is great for recovering energy ... I think I understand why. Let's hurry inside to actually eat some ~
6pm upstairs at Deokeun Jangeo: the room and the self bar
We arrived around six and there were already quite a lot of people. And by the time we started grilling, the place was completely full .. so many people ..!!! Must be a popular spot, ㅋ I guess I'll have to judge the taste myself ~ ?
Here are the side dishes ! There's a self bar, so if you need more veggies or banchan (side dishes), just help yourself to as much as you like ~~
There's salad and sauces that don't come as standard banchan ! I grabbed all the sauces — only teriyaki sauce is set at the table itself ! Just so you know.
Read this before you put the eel on the grill !!!!! I've mostly been to places where they grill it for you, so I don't actually know how to grill eel ㅠ.ㅠ Make sure to read it so we can grill it deliciously !
Besides eel there are other menu items ~ I noticed the table next to us ordered eel tteokgalbi (grilled short rib patties) too ! We figured just the eel would fill us up, so we stuck with eel only.

The eel we picked this time at Deokeun Jangeo Gwangyang Branch came to two eels for ₩50,130. Prices vary by weight, and ours ended up at 50,130 won ! So plump, right??
They were so big they spilled over the edge of the grill .. ㅋㅋㅋ once partly cooked I cut them up to grill evenly.
Finally, the grilled eel I know and love is showing its form. Cook faster !! Hurry up and get into my mouth !!!
It wasn't pre-seasoned so I sprinkled salt on it while grilling ! The eel was seriously so plump ...
How the three sauces taste, and why two eels feed two people
First a bite with teriyaki sauce !!! The eel was so plump that two of us nearly burst eating two whole eels ..
Next, gotta wrap it in lettuce too ~~ With three sauces total — wasabi soy sauce, teriyaki sauce, and spicy sauce — we never got tired of it ! And honestly the eel was so plump and big that if the two of us had gotten greedy we might've had to leave food behind .. ㅋㅋ Since we grilled it ourselves too, the price felt really reasonable and I loved that !!
Eel usually makes me hesitate because of the price, but at Deokeun Jangeo you can eat your fill without worrying ㅎ.ㅎ Thanks for the meal today ♥
