Bundang Korean restaurant for sujebi in mixed pork hot pot: Okdengjang

In short

Okdengjang Seohyeon Branch is a Korean restaurant serving boiled pork hot pot and doenjang (soybean paste) dishes near Seohyeon Station in Seongnam, Gyeonggi. On a weekday at 7pm, two men ordered the medium mixed boiled pork hot pot for 38,000 won, with beef tendon, shin meat and short ribs, then added sujebi (hand-torn noodles) — and a plan for one bottle of soju turned into four. One hot pot fills two people and eats like a restorative meal.

There's a place I really love and go back to all the time. It's Okdengjang Seohyeon Branch, my go-to for a hearty lunch near Seohyeon — and honestly every branch of this chain is good, not just this one, so I trust it completely.

The meals are great, but the pancakes and hot pots make it especially good for drinking. That boiled pork hot pot in particular is the highlight of this place.

As usual, there seemed to be a long wait. Whether it's lunch or dinner, the place stays busy and the waitlist gets long.

It was around 7pm on a weekday and the restaurant was nearly full. Luckily, we still got a table.

They provide aprons too, so office workers eating lunch don't have to worry about splashes.

Okdengjang Seohyeon Branch, my go-to lunch tonic near Seohyeon, is really all about the boiled pork hot pot — we got the medium mixed hot pot for ₩38,000, just the two of us. It made a fantastic drinking snack. My friend picked it again after loving it last time, and it was still just as good, which made me happy. We swore we'd have exactly one bottle of soju, just one!! — and ended up with four. When the food's this good, you can't stop, haha.

I didn't order it this time, but last time I tried the sweet shrimp minari pancake for ₩17,000 — crispy, savory, and bursting with umami, a really good pancake too.

They also have a wide range of drinks, so it looked easy for everyone to pick according to their taste. Unless you have really unusual taste, you'll probably find what you want.

Just the boiled pork hot pot set alone at Okdengjang Seohyeon Branch, my go-to lunch tonic near Seohyeon, already makes for a great meal —

— and that's because of this complimentary kimchi jjim. You could easily have a drink with just this before the main dish arrives. Certified good near Seohyeon Station!

We were still nibbling on the side dishes when today's main dish arrived. Up until that point I was silently telling myself I'd go alcohol-free today, but the moment I saw it, we both love drinking, so naturally the order just happened.

They grind fresh pepper right at the table, which was fun and also felt like a thoughtful touch.

Plump, chewy beef shin — a cut you can't skip. It picks up just the right amount of seasoning from the broth, and it was genuinely delicious.

The boiled pork hot pot at Okdengjang Seohyeon Branch, my go-to lunch tonic near Seohyeon, even has short ribs in it. Lots of meat, not tough at all, with a chewy texture that was really enjoyable to eat.

Short ribs included in the mixed boiled pork hot pot

No need to go searching for a good restaurant near Seohyeon Station — you can get beef tendon, shin meat, and short ribs all in one place here, so don't go far, just come here.

The minari (water celery) was so fragrant — 'the aroma explodes' is the right way to put it. It's popular enough that the ingredients seem well managed too.

From the photos alone, you might think the broth looks pale and plain, but it's really not — it's a deep, rich meat broth, and I kept going back for more.

The boiled pork itself is so good that it's delicious just dipped in soy sauce, or eaten with green onion kimchi. However you like it, it can't be anything but tasty.

Adding sujebi (hand-torn noodles) to the hot pot

If you're only eating the boiled pork at Okdengjang near Seohyeon Station, carb lovers might feel shortchanged — but there are glass noodles included, and you can add extra sari (noodle add-ons) too.

We love sujebi, so we added sujebi sari. Cooked this way, it turned into a fantastic bowl of sujebi.

The portion was generous enough that we didn't need to order anything else, and the two of us guys ate until we were completely full.
