Straight hair hippie-cloud perm, morning visit: Salon Of, Cheongju

With the weather cooling down and that autumn smell in the air, I really wanted to change up my hair. My hair is completely straight, so perms never hold well on me — I have to go to a salon that really knows what they're doing. While looking for somewhere close to home, I found Salon Of, which had great reviews!

It's located in Gangseo-dong, so it's easy to get to, and the reviews were so good that I trusted it and went. The verdict? The perm turned out so well that I'm one very satisfied customer haha. Let me share my review of Salon Of in Gangseo-dong.

Salon Of Gangseo Branch — location and parking

I booked ahead through Naver Reservation. Parking is tough around this area, but the salon has its own dedicated lot, so it was really convenient. It's also close to Hyundai Connect and Lotte Mart Gagyeong-dong, so it's a great spot to swing by for a haircut after shopping haha.

After parking, you take the elevator up, and as soon as you step off on the 2nd floor, Salon Of is right there! Since it opens at 10am, I dropped my kid off at school and headed straight there for the opening.

What was the salon's atmosphere like?

Stepping inside, it had a clean, calm atmosphere and was so tidy that even on my first visit, I felt right at home.

Each seat had a comfortable amount of space between it and the next, so I never felt crowded next to other guests. Off to one side, hair products and supplies for treatments were all neatly organized, and every corner of the space felt well cared for. The staff were also so kind that I felt good from start to finish.

How did the consultation go for straight hair?

Since I was getting a perm, I put on a gown first, got guided over, and sat down at my seat. In front of the mirror, the first thing I noticed was my own hair lol. That day my long hair was lightly styled with a flat iron, but from behind it looked thick and honestly kind of messy T_T

After a thorough consultation about what style I wanted, the perm process began. When I mentioned that perms never hold well on my hair, the stylist said they'd make sure it turned out as well as possible — that really put me at ease!

My layers were all over the place, so they re-cut them to tidy everything up nicely. I hadn't even realized my layers were uneven, but of course a pro caught it right away haha.

Between a hippie perm and a cloud perm — the process

The shampoo area had two chairs, and the comfortable seat made the whole wash so relaxing. We agreed on a perm somewhere between a hippie perm and a cloud perm, and they wrapped my hair carefully section by section.

Perms can take a long time and get boring for a lot of women, but I read a magazine, sipped a cold drink, and played on my phone, so the time flew by and I wasn't bored at all. During the heat-processing step, the stylist kept coming back to carefully check that no part of my head was getting too hot.

So how did the perm turn out on straight hair?

This is before drying — I've honestly never had a perm come out this well before, and I was so surprised. I actually thought to myself, 'so my hair CAN look like this!' and I was so happy the curl turned out great.

While drying my hair, the stylist also explained in detail how to style it at home, which I really appreciated. Such a satisfying long-hair perm review! Styling my hair is definitely so much easier now that it's permed.
