Pearl-pin full-day hanbok rental in Jeonju: Gwijok Uisangsil

Today's post is a review of Gwijok Uisangsil, a hanbok rental shop in Jeonju Hanok Village! I recently spent a night and two days in Jeonju, and you can't do a Jeonju Hanok Village trip without trying on hanbok, right? Summer had just ended and the weather had turned cool, so I jumped at the chance to wear one. The name itself sounds so trustworthy — Gwijok Uisangsil ("Noble Costume Room")! The hanbok on display right at the entrance were pretty, so I was excited from the moment I walked in ⌯' ▾ '⌯

Where is Gwijok Uisangsil, and what does hanbok rental cost?

Gwijok Uisangsil Hanbok Jeonju Hanok Village Branch is at 17-5 Choemyeonghui-gil, Wansan-gu, Jeonju. Hanbok rental is ₩20,000 for 2 hours, ₩25,000 for a full day, ₩50,000 for one night two days, and premium hanbok is an extra ₩10,000.

Beyond hanbok: 1920s Gyeongseong-era costumes at Gwijok Uisangsil

Gwijok Uisangsil rents out not only hanbok but also Gyeongseong-era (1920s) costumes! Even just looking at the outfits fitted out front, there's such a variety of pretty pieces that I was already agonizing over what to wear before even stepping inside 🙂🙂

Walking into the shop, you're greeted right away by rows of colorful hanbok. Just looking at them, I could tell they'd photograph really well haha

Going through the passage between the hanbok racks leads to a bigger space — this was the Gyeongseong costume section plus a mini studio. They said this set is the popular one. I think it would suit tall people so well 🥰

Check the price chart! I went with the full-day rental. They even do one night two days rentals..!! Booking the studio and taking photos all day sounds great haha. I didn't do a shoot myself, but for anyone who takes snap photos here, they said if you take part in the Naver review event you get the edited photos for free — definitely worth checking out!

They also have European-style dresses like this. Since the Gyeongseong-style items include accessories, shoes and bags to rent too, it feels like there's a bit more variety.

They even have baby-sized ones, so cute

Maybe because it's such a good spot for a hanbok experience in Jeonju Hanok Village, there were even celebrity autographs on the wall! Whenever there are celebrity signatures somewhere — a restaurant or anywhere really — doesn't it just make the place look even better? Haha, maybe that's just me 😛😛

Picking a pale pink skirt hanbok and changing in the fitting room

What I picked at Gwijok Uisangsil was a pale pink skirt hanbok embroidered with white flowers. Once I picked the skirt, the staff recommended a matching jeogori (top), and for women, staff come into the fitting room with you to help you put it on.

After looking around everywhere, it was finally hanbok time haha. I agonized hard between a sky blue and a pale pink skirt. The one with white flowers embroidered on it was just so pretty in that soft color!! Since wearing hanbok isn't something you do every day, I was worried about how I'd even manage to put it on alone, but they helped me so it was easy!

They also have this Hwang Jini style. Feels like you'd become instantly alluring the moment you put it on...

Three hairstyles to choose from, finished with pearl pins

Once you're dressed at Gwijok Uisangsil, they also do your hair for you. You just choose from three options! I felt a neat bun style suits hanbok best, so I went with number one.

They also add on all sorts of gorgeous pearl ornaments, and their hands are incredibly fast — total pro moves!! My hair length was a bit awkward so a bun worked out better, but if my hair were a little longer, I think option three would've looked really pretty too — kind of a young-lady vibe.

In hanbok around Jeonju Hanok Village: an LP café and a stroll

After putting on hanbok, we also visited a café near the hanok village. It was still a bit hot out, so we needed a quick refuge ㅠㅜ It was an LP café with everything from traditional tea to beer, and you could even request songs, so we ended up having an atmospheric daytime date.

I noticed most guys let the woman pick first, then match colors with her. We didn't go for a fully matching look — we picked slightly different colors. Kind of gave off a new-groom feel.

Dressing up in hanbok, going to a café, taking a stroll — thanks to this Jeonju Hanok Village hanbok experience, we came home with great memories. It would be a fun and unique experience with family, a partner, or friends, whoever you go with. If you're heading to Jeonju, definitely give it a try!
