Why a couple married 14 years picked Gwijok Uisangsil in Jeonju
We rented hanbok and did an outdoor snap shoot in Jeonju Hanok Village at Gwijok Uisangsil. I'm still not fully over the afterglow of this Jeonju trip. This trip gave us so much satisfaction in so many ways! But if I had to pick the single most unforgettable memory, it would definitely be the hanbok rental and outdoor snap shoot at 'Gwijok Uisangsil.'
Honestly, my husband and I hadn't worn hanbok together for a proper photo since our wedding-prep studio shoot. Now, 14 years into marriage, standing in front of the camera together in matching hanbok again brought back all sorts of feelings and made my heart go soft and warm.
With deep gratitude to Gwijok Uisangsil in Jeonju for giving a couple on their 14th wedding anniversary such a meaningful and precious time, here's my honest review!
Where Gwijok Uisangsil is: a Choemyeonghui-gil alley, dogs welcome inside
Gwijok Uisangsil sits a little off the main street of Jeonju Hanok Village, on Choemyeonghui-gil, an alley full of quiet charm instead of crowds. I'd looked at other people's posts before visiting, but seeing it in person, Gwijok Uisangsil felt even more serene and full of that distinctive hanok elegance than the photos suggested. The alley leading up to it was so pretty! I fell in love before I'd even stepped through the door.
Since we were traveling with our dog Heuktang, I was about to tie him up near the entrance, but the owner saw us and kindly said, "Your dog is welcome to come inside too!" I was genuinely touched...
Heading to the back of the shop, a whole space with a classic 1920s Gaehwagi (enlightenment era) atmosphere opened up. The concept was so clear and distinct that it was fun just to look around ^^
How you pick a hanbok: women choose first, the owner matches the men's hanbok
Walking into Gwijok Uisangsil, I found a wonderfully varied selection of hanbok, all neatly arranged! There was so much choice depending on your taste.
The woman picks a hanbok she likes first, and then the owner expertly matches it with a men's hanbok that fits perfectly.
Husbands get no say at all~ they just have to wear whatever coordinates with the wife's hanbok color!
I usually suit deep, bright colors, so I picked a hanbok with a striking deep red accent. Once the owner matched my husband's hanbok to it, wow... it suited him perfectly too!
Is hair styling included at Gwijok Uisangsil?
For women, they also do careful hair styling to match the hanbok. My hair was a bit of a mess that day, but after the owner worked on it, it came out neat and pretty, and I felt great going into the shoot. One corner of the shop was full of hair accessories and styling props, which was fun to browse too.
The inner studio and the Gyeongseong-era costumes and props
Going around past the space where the hanbok hang, an enormous, gorgeous space was hiding in the back! There was a studio shooting area, of course, plus a huge variety of 1920s Gaehwagi-concept costumes and props sorted by theme.
We used the hanbok rental this time, but if we come back to Jeonju again, I'd love to try something different and fun with the 1920s Gaehwagi concept.
The interior of the studio was also thoughtfully set up with angles that make for pretty photos.
Looking around, I kept thinking, 'A family photo here would be so pretty.' Next time I want to come with the kids and get a full family snap!
They also have a wide variety of the flamboyant hats that are key to the 1920s Gaehwagi look, so you can style it up however you like.

To get hanbok rental and a snap shoot in Jeonju Hanok Village all for this price was way more reasonable than I expected. Snap photos at just ₩10,000 per person especially — if you visit Jeonju, I really recommend trying it!
The outdoor snap shoot with a dog: Heuktang in the family photo
I picked out my three favorite shots and got them printed nicely! The shoot itself went really smoothly and naturally, and it helped a lot that the photographer actually has a dog of their own, so they really understood how to work with pets.
I'd assumed it would just be a snap of me and my husband, but the photographer thoughtfully framed Heuktang into the shot too, creating a beautiful memory. Thanks to that, we ended up with unexpectedly perfect dog-life shots & family photos. 🐶📸
After the shoot: two hours walking Jeonju Hanok Village in hanbok
After the shoot, my husband and I happily wandered around Jeonju Hanok Village in our pretty hanbok. ^^ I don't even wear hanbok much on holidays, but walking the quiet hanok streets in one while traveling gave me such a refreshing feeling and became a special memory.
On top of that, the weather that day was sunny and cool, perfect for strolling in hanbok. A date with my husband on a street with a gentle autumn breeze — 200% satisfaction! 🍁
After spending 2 hours exploring the Hanok Village and coming back, the photographer had finished both the printed snap photos and the edited digital files, ready for us.
The Photoshop editing was done so naturally and beautifully that when I showed friends, they said, "I thought this was from a calendar or a photo magazine!" (I'll take that as high praise for the quality 😉) At 14 years married, with my husband and our Heuktang, Gwijok Uisangsil in Jeonju gave us unforgettable life shots and precious memories — highly recommend it! ❤️
