Gongjung Dodeok is a duck restaurant on the Gyeongui Line Forest Trail between Daeheung and Gongdeok stations in Mapo, Seoul. With a 2pm weekday reservation for a window seat, the writer ordered the Gongjung Half-and-Half Set (69,000 won) and the barley shrimp minari pancake (22,000 won), and the grilled duck, spicy stir-fried duck and duck soup all arrived together — more than enough for two. Walking to Gongjung Dodeok from Gongdeok Station along the Gyeongui Line Forest Trail
Gongjung Dodeok (공중도덕) is a duck restaurant on Baekbeom-ro 20-gil in Mapo-gu, Seoul — a touch closer to Daeheung Station, but easily reached from Gongdeok Station by walking along the Gyeongui Line Forest Trail. In the full swing of a cool autumn, a friend and I suddenly craved something clean-tasting yet rich — duck — and after some serious searching, found a genuinely solid spot.
With the weather so lovely lately, we took our time walking from Gongdeok Station along the Gyeongui Line forest path. Between the reddening leaves and the crisp autumn air, we arrived before we knew it.

A place that filled the appetite our walk had happily worked up with a generous spread — today's Gongdeok find was a treat for the eyes and the mouth alike. Let me introduce it right now!

Gongjung Dodeok's outdoor patio and the duck character at the door
The moment we arrived, what caught my eye first was the wide, breezy outdoor patio! We visited during a quiet 2pm lull, so the mood was relaxed, but I could easily imagine how lively and delicious it must feel to eat duck there under the lights once the sun sets and the cool evening breeze picks up. I immediately thought, 'I have to come back for dinner sometime and really soak in that patio vibe.'

And the cute duck characters greeting us here and there at the entrance were totally my style. So many charming, witty little touches — I was already smiling and my expectations were sky-high before I even stepped inside.

What the window reservation seat and indoor room are like
Walking in with excitement, a staff member greeted us with a bright, friendly smile. As soon as I gave the name on our reservation, we were shown straight to a prime window seat with a wide-open view outside. Sitting in a spot with natural light streaming in put me in a good mood before the food even arrived.

Looking around inside, the space was much larger and more neatly arranged than I expected. There was none of the usual grilled-meat-restaurant smell or smoky haze — the air felt fresh, and when I asked, they said they'd put special effort into the ventilation system.

Thanks to the clean, pleasant atmosphere, it was perfect for chatting comfortably with a friend over a relaxed meal.

What comes in the Gongjung Half-and-Half Set (69,000 won) and the 22,000 won shrimp minari pancake
We scanned the QR code on the table and slowly browsed the mobile menu.

There were so many tempting options that we agonized for a while before settling on the signature Gongjung Half-and-Half Set (69,000 won), which lets you try several flavors at once. With clean duck roast, sweet-spicy duck stir-fry, and rich, deep duck soup all in one course, we added it to the cart without a second thought!
On top of that, we couldn't skip the restaurant's signature side dish, the Barley Shrimp Minari Pancake (22,000 won), for the ultimate hearty combo. Once the order went in, my friend and I locked eyes, hearts pounding with anticipation over how the fragrant minari (water dropwort), crispy barley shrimp, and generous duck dishes would look on arrival.

Serving order: duck soup first, then the half-and-half grill
About five minutes after ordering, the duck soup arrived first in an earthenware pot, sooner than I expected. The staff placed it on one side of the grill and kindly told us the timing too: 'Eat it once it's boiling hot.' It made the wait feel pleasant.

Soon after, the main grill plate arrived, and the moment it hit the table, my friend and I both gasped 'Wow!' at the same time. On the wide square grill, clean, vivid-red duck roast and duck stir-fry coated in spicy sauce sat side by side in generous half-and-half portions, with vibrant, fragrant minari and golden potato slices perfectly filling the gaps.
Thanks to the vivid colors and neat plating, my mouth was watering just from the visuals before it even hit the grill. It was a moment of eagerly waiting for the heat to build and that sizzle to kick in.

Duck soup with a perilla leaf kick
I carefully spooned up the first bubbling taste of the duck soup broth. The moment it hit my mouth, a clear, clean, yet deeply savory richness spread across my palate, entirely free of any greasiness. There wasn't a trace of heaviness — my friend and I both let out exclamations over how clean and refreshing the broth was.
The generous helping of perilla leaves simmered in with the soup was the perfect kick. Their subtle, fragrant aroma elevated the duck broth's flavor a notch further, making it hard to put the spoon down after just one taste. It was the perfect starter to warm up the stomach and whet the appetite before diving into the duck itself.

Spicy stir-fried duck, best wrapped in pickled radish
After warming up with the duck soup, we reached first for the spicy-scented, sizzling duck stir-fry. The moment I popped a big piece into my mouth along with some slightly wilted, fragrant minari, I thought, 'This is it!' The meat was tender and soft with zero gaminess, and the spiciness was savory and appetizing without being overwhelming — truly excellent.

Wrapping the spicy stir-fry in a crisp, tangy-sweet slice of pickled radish added a clean acidity that made it an unstoppable, irresistible combo.
Grilled duck dipped in Gongjung Dodeok's house sauce
After enjoying the spice of the stir-fry, we moved on to the classic clean flavor of the duck roast.

We dipped the nicely browned roasted duck into this Gongdeok spot's own special sauce — it brought out the savory, natural flavor of the duck beautifully, an amazing pairing.

Wrapping two pieces of meat in fresh lettuce with garlic and ssamjang (dipping paste) made for a big, satisfying bite that earned an instant thumbs up. Adding the potato slices — crisp outside, fluffy inside, soaked in savory duck fat — turned out to be a hidden gem in itself.
Barley shrimp and minari pancake instead of fried rice
At the end, we debated fiercely between frying up rice or trying the signature pancake, and ultimately went with the Barley Shrimp Minari Pancake.

The moment it hit the table, my friend and I both gasped at its sheer size. The flour batter was used so sparingly, just enough to hold the ingredients together, with fresh minari piled high and topped generously with tiny barley shrimp, mountain-style.

The moment I tore off a piece with my chopsticks and took a bite, a crisp 'crunch!' rang out along with a burst of savory flavor filling my mouth. The salty umami of the barley shrimp, the crispy texture, and the crunchy, fragrant minari came together so well that it was perfectly seasoned even without dipping it in the accompanying sauce.
It wasn't greasy at all and stayed crisp and clean to the very last bite — we said 'what if we hadn't ordered this?!' and any regret over skipping the fried rice vanished instantly.
Is Gongjung Dodeok worth a second visit?
After clearing the very last bite, there wasn't a hint of heaviness in my stomach — just that satisfying fullness that comes from filling up on genuinely delicious, hearty food. This Gongdeok find, Gongjung Dodeok, easily ranks among the top three duck restaurants I've ever been to — it delivered a completely satisfying experience.
From the well-rounded set that let us enjoy fresh, clean duck roast, addictively spicy stir-fry, and rich duck soup all in one sitting, to the barley shrimp minari pancake that showed off pure crispy perfection, every single dish stood out. Add to that the view of the Gyeongui Line forest trail through the floor-to-ceiling windows, the impressively clean ventilation, and genuinely friendly service, and I was happy the entire meal.
If you want delicious duck, a special side dish, and an atmospheric setting all in one place, I'd recommend this without hesitation. Before it gets any colder, I'm definitely planning to come back and sit in that romantic patio seating to soak up the evening vibe.
