Siheung Korean BBQ restaurant with patbingsu: Daehwa Sutbul Garden
In short
Daehwa Sutbul Garden Siheung Janggok Branch is a charcoal-grilled rib restaurant in Janggok-dong, Siheung, Gyeonggi. My family grilled Gyeongju-style instant-marinated beef ribs over charcoal, then enjoyed the generous spread, self-service bar, kalguksu, and patbingsu. Verdict: a satisfying family meal with gently sweet, not-too-salty ribs.

On a lovely autumn day, my family and I headed to Janggok-dong in Siheung for a delicious meal together for the first time in ages. After much deliberation, we chose Daehwa Sutbul Garden Siheung Janggok Branch. It is already much talked about as a great restaurant in Janggok-dong, so I was really looking forward to its ribs!

True to its reputation as a Janggok-dong favorite, there were signs displaying all kinds of menu items out front. The Gyeongju-style instant-marinated beef ribs especially caught my eye. They promised a sweetness that was not overdone along with plenty of savory depth, so that was an easy choice!

The main dish and a generous table spread

Once we ordered, the basic table setting arrived—and wow, it was seriously generous.

An assortment of side dishes was served in such a neat arrangement. From salad to kimchi and pickled vegetables, every single one looked delicious.

Even the complimentary miyeokguk (seaweed soup) was far from ordinary. It was packed with big pieces of beef, giving it a wonderfully rich, deep flavor. One spoonful of warm seaweed soup made me feel as though my whole body was melting into relaxation.
What were the self-service bar and spacious interior like?

The interior was clean and spacious, which I loved. There was plenty of room between tables too, so we could eat comfortably.

Another great thing here is the self-service bar. We could help ourselves to as many wrap vegetables and side dishes as we wanted.

They also had high chairs ready for children, so it seemed like an excellent spot for a family meal.
Ribs grilled over high-heat charcoal

At last, the ribs we had been waiting for arrived! The fresh-looking beef ribs were topped generously with minced garlic, and complimentary dakgalbi (spicy stir-fried chicken) and sausages came along too. My mouth was already watering.

We placed the beef ribs, chicken, and sausages over the fiercely hot charcoal and started grilling them with that wonderful sizzle.

As the meat sizzled, its delicious aroma drifted through the air. It was pure happiness, honestly.

The juicy beef ribs melted softly in my mouth, and the marinade had soaked deeply into the meat, so the savory flavor burst out more and more with every bite. The chicken and sausages that came with them were special treats too.

Kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) also came with the marinated ribs. The noodles were pleasantly chewy and the broth was refreshing, making a perfect match for the ribs.
Meat grilled over charcoal is always the answer!

A work of art.

The Janggok-dong ribs here in particular were not salty, with just the right amount of sweetness, so I think both kids and adults would enjoy them. It had been such a long time since I had a meal this satisfying.
Of course, we did not forget the patbingsu (shaved ice with sweet red beans) served for dessert. Sweet red beans, icy shaved ice, and nutty cereal—what a perfect finish to the meal.
