Hi, this is Everyday Like a Trip :)
On a nice day you just want to grill up a hearty plate of meat, right? This time I went to Donbegi Gwang-an Branch near Gwangalli Beach, known for its in-house aged meat. If you're looking for a Gwangalli meat restaurant for pork belly, or want a room-style restaurant that also works as a group dinner spot, I hope this review helps. Please read on!
Where is Donbegi Gwang-an Branch and how do you get there?
Donbegi Gwang-an Branch is at 34 Minrakbondong-ro 11beon-gil, Suyeong-gu, Busan, 1st and 2nd floors. It's close to Gwangalli Beach, so it's a great spot to stop for a meal after taking in the view of the sea.
By subway, it's about a 15–20 minute walk from Exit 3 of Gwangan Station. By bus, take 83, 83-1, or 41 and get off at the Minrak-dong bus garage, or take 210 and get off at Jillo Beach Apartment stop.

It's open from noon to 11:30 pm, with last order at 11 pm. Since it's open from midday well into the evening, it was easy to pick a time. I checked the hours sign posted at the entrance before going in.
Next to the entrance were several certification panels — a multilingual-friendly restaurant mark, a Korea Consumer Industry Assessment excellence certificate, and an Angel Sharing certificate, all hung side by side. There was a menu stand underneath too, so I could browse before heading in.
You can also visit with your pet.
Parking in Gwangalli: 2 hours free for Donbegi guests
If you're driving, you can use the Seohee Star Hills Centum Primo underground parking lot right across from the entrance. Just enter through the barrier facing the restaurant, and they'll cover 2 hours of free parking. Parking around Gwangalli is always a worry, so having this clearly arranged put my mind at ease.
The hanok-style exterior of Donbegi Gwang-an Branch

As soon as I arrived, the building itself caught my eye. It's a two-story building on a corner lot, with tiled eaves, white walls, and wooden frames that give it a hanok (traditional Korean house) look. The first floor is finished in dark brown wood, and a gold Donbegi logo sign sits above a red brick wall. With so many tall buildings nearby, this one stood out enough to spot from a distance.

Walking in, you find the first-floor hall. Dark wood-panel walls and lattice windows give it a calm feel. Each hexagonal stainless steel table has a copper-colored exhaust hood hanging over it, so I didn't have to worry about smoke.
What impressed me most was the aging chamber on one side of the restaurant. Through a glass door lit in pink and purple light, you can see the meat laid out in aging, layer by layer — seeing it with my own eyes really built trust. The lighting made for pretty photos too.
With the story of meat completed through 480 hours of waiting, I could tell this place takes aging seriously.

Private rooms and the 42-person group table for a team dinner
Donbegi Gwang-an Branch's biggest strength is its rooms. Down a corridor, numbered rooms line up, each hung with a black noren curtain stamped with the Donbegi logo instead of a door — it gives the place a distinct atmosphere.

There are rooms for 2 to 6 people, and group seating for parties of 7 or more. The larger room I saw had a long table with chairs lined up, plus coat hooks on the wall — especially handy if you're worried about meat smell soaking into your clothes. The cozier room for about 6 had sunlight coming in through the window, which felt nice.

With rooms this well set up, the place works for family meals, club gatherings, dates, and dinner meetups alike. For anyone hunting for a group dinner spot, the group seating capacity (up to 42) is a reassuring plus. The 2-person rooms are private enough to feel like a proper date spot.
The Donbegi menu and how ordering works
Donbegi's menu is divided into set menus, à la carte, meal menus, and special menus. Sets are sized for couples or groups, and the couple wine set comes with two glasses of house wine. Beyond pork belly and shoulder, the à la carte section has cuts like 4mm-thick pork belly, skirt meat, and honeycomb tripe, so there's plenty to pick from. The meal menu includes cold kimchi kalguksu (noodle soup), pollack roe rice, Hanwoo-pork kimchi stew, and cold soba, and there's even a pork omakase made from a disassembled pork neck as a special item.
Worth knowing the ordering rules: your first à la carte order needs to be 2 servings or more, and you can split servings by type. For example, you can order one 180g pork belly and one 180g pork shoulder, but you can't order just one 180g pork belly alone. Orders go through the tablet on the table, and you can press the staff call button for questions.
What side dishes come with the meal?

Once seated, the side dishes get laid out nicely around the grill. Small bowls of pickled kelp, spicy seasoned radish strips, and yellow pickled napa cabbage came out, along with a large bowl of soy sauce with diced cheongyang chili. There was also a small bowl of salted pollack roe, which turned out to be very useful later.

We got a basket of lettuce with garlic and chili peppers from the self-serve bar.

480-hour aged snowflake pork belly and aged pork shoulder
What we ordered that day was one serving of 480-hour aged snowflake pork belly and one serving of 480-hour aged pork shoulder. Both are priced per 100g and sold in 180g units.
I took photos the moment the plates arrived. The clear layers of lean meat and fat looked fresh even just to the eye. The meat next to it was cut thick, with marbling spread through in ribbons. King oyster mushrooms, green onion, and shishito peppers came alongside, and the grill filled up quickly.

Staff grill everything from start to finish. They flip and cut with tongs and scissors so skillfully that all I had to do was sit and watch. The sizzling sound and the rising smoke off the grill — that moment was the most exciting part.
How did the aged pork shoulder taste?
The pork shoulder's juiciness is something else. Juice ran out the moment it was cut with scissors, and once in my mouth, the moistness came through fully. Maybe because of the long aging, the meat was tender and clean, with no off smell. I could see why it's introduced as a great-value menu item.

I tried eating it in a few different ways.
Putting grilled pork shoulder with wasabi on top of aged kimchi was nice too — it tangily reset the palate.
Wrapping the meat with green onion salad in lettuce added a crunchy texture that made for a different flavor altogether.

Snowflake pork belly: what the knife scoring does to the texture
After the pork shoulder came the pork belly.
True to the description that it gets 300 knife cuts, the surface was scored densely, giving it that snowflake look the name promises.

Thanks to the scoring, the pork belly's exterior browned nicely while the fat rendered off evenly, and the pork shoulder, despite being thick, grilled moist all the way through.
I tried a piece of the pork belly plain. The outside was crisp and the inside soft, getting nuttier and cleaner the more I chewed. Because of all the scoring, it wasn't chewy at all — it went down really smoothly. I kept reaching back for more, drawn in by the chewy texture and the juices.

I tried topping the pork belly with salted pollack roe and a touch of wasabi, and the salty roe with the sharp wasabi really brought the meat's flavor to life. Oh, that combo is seriously crazy good. Looking at the photo makes me want more.
The combo of shishito pepper and green onion strips over kimchi was spicy and refreshing too.
Grilled green onion and king oyster mushroom paired well between bites of meat. The king oyster mushroom especially came sliced thick, and grilled up chewy and fragrant.
Final verdict on Donbegi Gwang-an Branch
I think Donbegi Gwang-an Branch holds its own as a Gwangalli meat restaurant for pork belly. The tenderness and juiciness of the 480-hour aged meat were great, and having staff grill it for you made for an easy, comfortable meal. Above all, being a room-style restaurant meant a private dining experience, which was a big plus. It works well for a date, a family meal, or a large gathering. With both rooms and group seating well covered, I can confidently recommend it to anyone weighing options for a group dinner spot.
If you're taking a walk along Gwangalli Beach and craving a hearty meal afterward, give this place a try. Next time, I definitely want to try the cold kimchi kalguksu.
