Ara-dong, Jeju City restaurant for rosé shrimp risotto: Cultured

Cultured is a local favorite in Ara-dong, Jeju City that I stopped by once during a Jeju photoshoot ages ago. It's been over a year and I still couldn't forget the taste, so I finally went back — and yep, still insanely good,, seriously insanely good ㅠ Highly, highly recommend.

Where is Cultured, and is there parking near Dongmun Market?

Cultured is a Western-style restaurant in Ara-dong, Jeju City, fairly close to Dongmun Traditional Market, so I combined it with a market visit on the first day of my trip. Parking is available near the restaurant if you're driving, so I'd recommend just driving over.

Seeing the entrance again brought back memories from a year ago,, back then I visited the day before a Jeju photoshoot and it was so good, but I could only eat a little. This time I came back to make up for that regret.

What is the dining room at Cultured like?

This is what the inside of Cultured looks like — it was busy both times I came, even though I showed up past 8pm this time..! Really felt like a genuine local favorite.

The tables are clean and spaced out well, so it's great for conversation — feels like a family restaurant. The atmosphere is nice too, so I'd recommend it as a date spot.

Cultured's menu: the sirloin steak is gone

What I ate before was so good, but looking at Cultured's menu, it seems things have changed a bit?!

I had the sirloin steak back then, and that item's gone now, but the salmon salad is still there..!

I ordered the raw salmon salad I remembered fondly, plus one risotto and one pasta.

Great thing about Cultured — drinks are free. Hehehe!

Raw salmon salad at Cultured: the horseradish makes it

Cultured's raw salmon salad is a dish I had a year and a half ago, and I remember the salmon being incredibly fresh and the salad it came with being ridiculously good.

So I ordered it again this time! And sure enough, generous portion and super fresh salmon.

They said it's fresh raw salmon sourced 2-3 times a week, and the color alone tells you it's fresh...

Top it with onion, dip in horseradish sauce, and eat with the salad — just pure fantasy...ㅠㅠ

The horseradish is also the best I've had. Coming back to revisit while traveling really proves this place is a genuine gem.. So good.

It's also great with wasabi. The wasabi isn't the harsh spicy kind, which made it even better!

The salad is drizzled with yuzu sauce, and I'm usually not a fan of tangy sauces. But this one's good.. I don't know.. did they put something addictive in it, it's just so good.

Rosé shrimp risotto with 5 to 6 king prawns

I wanted the sirloin steak I had before, but since it's off the menu, I tried Cultured's risotto instead this time. Ordered it slightly spicy,

and whoa, the portion was pretty generous with 5-6 king prawns in it.. love it.. plus the cheese was plentiful and it was insanely good...

The shrimp were also bigger than the spoon. Cultured, please open a branch in Seoul.

Loaded with cheese so the creaminess was insane too. The sauce was insane, so good, and the rice was cooked properly al dente — I found myself wondering if the chef trained at Le Cordon Bleu,, best risotto I've had in my life.

The creaminess, flavor, and texture were all top-notch ㅠㅠ If this was near my house I'd go every month. Seriously so good, seriously, trust me and order this.

Aglio e olio at Cultured comes topped with zucchini

Lastly, I picked Cultured's aglio e olio to avoid overlapping with the risotto and raw salmon.

All three dishes came out really fast and all at once, which was great — for photos, at least.

What was slightly unique was that zucchini was placed on top!

The pasta noodles were also cooked with great chewy texture — best mouthfeel.

The garlic was also cooked just right. Not spicy at all, with a soft, fluffy texture like potato~!

The aglio e olio was genuinely tasty too, but since the risotto and raw salmon were so critically delicious, this one just felt like an ordinary level of good in comparison.

Why Cultured was worth a return visit on this Jeju trip

Honestly, revisiting the same place while traveling isn't a choice you make lightly, you know..? Using your limited time and limited meals during a trip to go back to a place you already visited — I think that's proof in itself that Cultured is a genuine gem.. Next time I'm in Jeju, I'm going back to Cultured again.

Seriously, seriously so good, and if I had to recommend just one of the three, I'd say definitely get the rosé shrimp risotto, kkokkokkokkok~!
