I've had a lot on my mind lately and hadn't had much of an appetite. While trying to figure out what to eat, I thought of a Nohyeong-dong favorite for dakdoritang (spicy braised chicken) — "Deureomtong Sotttukkeong Dakdoritang" — with its spicy kick and deep broth flavor.

Craving a spicy broth led me to this Nohyeong-dong dakdoritang restaurant

When eating out, a nicely styled restaurant is great, but sometimes you just want a hearty spread and to eat until you're full, right? When dining with family or friends, I tend to look for generous portions and dishes everyone can enjoy without hesitation.

More than just the quantity, the chicken and seasoning worked so well together that I enjoyed it all the way to the last bite. It was also great for gathering with a group and enjoying a satisfying meal together.

I thought it would be a good pick not just for family outings but also for meals or gatherings with friends.

From the very first glance at the food, I liked how generous everything looked. It was the kind of meal that came to mind for a day when I wanted to sit back and chat leisurely over a good spread.

  • Sotttukkeong aged-kimchi dakdoritang ₩18,000 (for 2)
  • Cheese fried rice ₩4,000
  • A bottle of soju haha

The moment I first heard the name "Deureomtong Sotttukkeong Dakdoritang," a Nohyeong-dong favorite for dakdoritang, I was curious how the dish would actually look when it arrived.

Using a wide sotttukkeong (cauldron lid) added a nice visual touch too. The first thing that caught my eye when the food arrived was just how generous it was. Chicken and various ingredients spread across the wide lid — just looking at it made me feel full already.

Aged-kimchi dakdoritang in a drum-lid pot: simmering as you eat

With plenty of chicken and ingredients piled onto the big cauldron lid, it was great for sharing with several people. Watching it bubble away on one side, with the seasoning soaking into the ingredients, naturally kept my chopsticks busy.

Dakdoritang is delicious right when it arrives, but there's also a special pleasure in simmering it a bit more as you eat, isn't there? As time passed, the broth grew richer and the seasoning sank deeper into the ingredients, giving a different flavor from the first bite. The portions were generous enough that I got to pick and choose what to eat, and I never once felt like there wasn't enough all the way through the meal.

What stuck with me most was the taste and the portion size. In that sense, this place had me excited from the very first impression. It just kept going and going, no end in sight! As it bubbled away, the seasoning soaked into the chicken and the broth deepened, which naturally made me crave rice.

How was the 4,000-won cheese fried rice?

I was already full, but I was curious how the ₩4,000 cheese fried rice would taste, so I ordered it anyway — and it didn't disappoint. It tasted great.

Is Deureomtong Sotttukkeong Dakdoritang worth it for two in Jeju?

The unique cauldron-lid style gave off a different vibe from the usual dakdoritang, and there was also a fun visual element in seeing the food piled generously onto the wide lid.

Most importantly, it wasn't just good-looking food — it actually tasted great, which was satisfying. Eating the chicken and sipping the rich broth naturally made me want a spoonful of rice.

The older I get, the more I care about whether the food itself is delicious and filling rather than how fancy a restaurant looks when I'm choosing where to eat. In that sense, this meal was a genuinely pleasant one.

If you want to enjoy a hearty dakdoritang with family or friends in Jeju, a dish simmered warm right on the cauldron lid could be a fun and different choice. There was joy in sharing a generously set table, and after the meal, I really felt like I'd eaten well and had my fill.

True to its name, "Deureomtong Sotttukkeong Dakdoritang" — a Nohyeong-dong favorite for dakdoritang — offered a twist on ordinary dakdoritang. Generous portions and satisfying flavor make it a place I'll think of on days when I want to eat until I'm full.
