Gyeongju dessert shop with a 5-minute Sunday morning wait: Tareudang
In short
Tareudang is a takeout dessert shop selling fruit mochi and tarts in Hwangnidang-gil, Gyeongju. A Sunday morning visit meant only about a 5-minute wait for peach yogurt mochi, mango yogurt mochi and an egg tart, which were chilled in the fridge before eating. The mochi held generous, sweet fruit under a chewy rice skin, and Tareudang's egg tart had a crisper crust than expected.

Tareudang: trying the Gyeongju fruit mochi seen all over social media

Fruit mochi has been showing up everywhere on social media lately haha. It looked so good that I'd been keeping an eye on it, and on a trip to Gyeongju I finally made it to Tareudang‼️ I especially wanted to try the mochi packed with big chunks of fruit — since it's such a trendy dessert right now, I was curious how it would actually taste. If you're hunting for dessert spots in Hwangnidang-gil, you've probably already spotted Tareudang because of its fruit mochi.

The orange awning and small order window made it easy to find.
How long is the wait at Tareudang on a Sunday morning?

I visited Tareudang on a Sunday morning and, from what I could tell, waited only about 5 minutes before buying. There were a few people ahead of me, but the line wasn't super long. I'd heard the place was popular and expected a longer wait, so it was nice to get through faster than I thought haha.
That said, this is just based on the day I visited — wait times could vary depending on the weekend or time of day. ※ I went on a Sunday morning!
What to order at Tareudang and the 4-mochi 500-won discount

I picked the peach yogurt mochi and the mango yogurt mochi.

The shop also had a sign noting that buying 4 or more mochi gets you ₩500 off per piece.

That seems like a pretty good deal if you're buying several. I put the mochi I bought in the fridge and ate them cold before they got too firm.
Peach and mango yogurt mochi: fruit, sweetness and chewy rice skin

The main reason I was curious about fruit mochi among all the dessert spots in Hwangnidang-gil was that big chunk of fruit — and cutting it open, the fruit really was generously packed in. It tasted sweet from all that fruit, and above all, the rice skin was incredibly chewy‼️

The juicy fruit texture combined with the cream and the chewy rice skin felt different from a regular chapssaltteok (glutinous rice cake). Eating it chilled seemed to suit it even better.
Why Tareudang's egg tart is worth adding to the box

Honestly, I only went in planning to get fruit mochi, but I ended up buying an egg tart too. True to being a tart shop, the egg tart was delicious haha — I especially liked how crisp the crust was.

The fruit mochi definitely stands out among Hwangnidang-gil's dessert spots, but if you visit Tareudang, I'd recommend trying the tart alongside it too.

I'd been curious after seeing it on social media over and over, and once I tried it myself, I understood why the fruit mochi's visuals stand out so much.

What I remember most is the generous fruit that made it sweet, and the chewy rice skin. Chilling it in the fridge and eating it cold gave it good texture too.

And the egg tart was better than I expected. If you're going just for the fruit mochi, I'd say grab a tart too haha.

If you're looking for dessert spots in Hwangnidang-gil and have been curious about the trendy fruit mochi, give Tareudang a try~👍🏻
