Gyeongju mochi shop with 7 flavors on display, 3 picked: Tareudang

In short

Tareudang is an orange-fronted fruit mochi takeout shop on Sajeong-ro in Gyeongju's Hwangnidang-gil. On the day of this visit the Tareudang display held seven kinds — dried persimmon yogurt, dark chocolate, peach yogurt, mango yogurt, fig yogurt, pineapple and gold kiwi — and fig, mango and peach yogurt were the three chosen. Each mochi packs a whole fruit with yogurt cream, so one alone is filling, and peach yogurt was the favorite.

Various fruit mochi flavors displayed on Tareudang's shelf

On the day I visited, they had dried persimmon yogurt, dark chocolate, peach yogurt, mango yogurt, fig yogurt, pineapple, and gold kiwi ready!! There were more flavors than I expected, so I spent a while agonizing over what to pick. I wanted to eat them all, but the size was bigger than expected, so I only chose enough to eat right away ..!!! 🥹💛

I thought it was only fruit mochi, but on one side they were also selling egg tarts. They looked crisply baked and delicious too, so I was a bit tempted, but this time I went with mochi ..!🤤

Tasting Tareudang's fig, mango and peach yogurt mochi

After much deliberation, I chose fig yogurt, mango yogurt, and peach yogurt — three flavors! Even just packaged, they looked so cute and adorable that I took a photo of them all huddled together first ..❤️💛🧡

Opening the box revealed soft, squishy mochi dusted with castella (sponge cake) crumbs on the outside. Cutting one in half, a whole piece of fruit sat inside! The mochi has yogurt cream as a base, with a whole fruit tucked inside, so you get a real burst of fruit flavor with the first bite.

First, the fig was subtly sweet with the fun crunch of the fig's tiny seeds!! With a whole fig packed inside, it was sweet and tasty enough to make you wonder if this is mochi or just fruit. The mango had a deep, soft, sweet fruit flavor, and with the yogurt cream mixed in, it wasn't too heavy to eat. And my favorite was the peach yogurt! I've always liked peaches, so of the three, peach was easily the best. Sweet, tangy peach combined with soft yogurt cream made for the perfect dessert 💗 The mochi itself was also chewy, and with a whole fruit inside, even one was pretty filling.
