I went to Bucheon over the weekend and finally got to try a bakery I'd been wanting to visit for ages — Chamsae Bori Sikppang. I'd been curious ever since it was featured on Master in the House (생활의 달인), but I honestly wondered if bread made with barley would taste a bit bland even if it sounded healthy. That thought completely disappeared once I actually tried the bread at this Bucheon bakery favorite. Here's my real, honest review~!

Chamsae Bori Sikppang, Bucheon main branch is a barley bread specialty bakery located on the 1st floor at 183-1 Gyeongin-ro, Sosa-gu, Bucheon-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. The sign says it was voted the No. 1 best bread loaf in Korea, so of course my expectations went up... and high expectations usually mean bigger disappointment, but this Bucheon bakery favorite actually lived up to it.

Opening hours and closed days: when should you go?

Chamsae Bori Sikppang, Bucheon main branch opens at 10 AM and is closed Mondays and Thursdays. Since they close whenever ingredients run out, it's honestly best to just show up right at opening time!!

I visited around 1pm on a weekend. Since it was already afternoon, I figured I'd be able to buy all three types, but two varieties were already sold out.

What does the rye sweet barley loaf taste like?

Chamsae Bori Sikppang has three menu items — daesang sweet barley, grain sweet barley, and rye sweet barley loaf — but the only one left that day was the rye sweet barley loaf. It had walnuts, rye, and cranberries inside, and the more I chewed, the nuttier and tastier it got. I expected 'healthy bread' to be a bit dry or plain, but this was nothing like that. Both the taste and texture were exactly my type — good enough to call this a Bucheon bread must-visit. (The kids loved it too!)

Note that this Bucheon bread favorite, Chamsae Bori Sikppang, will be closed for Chuseok on September 21, 24, and 25!! It's the kind of place I'd want to stock up on before visiting family over the holiday~!

Is the ₩3,000 whipped cream worth adding?

And if you go to Chamsae Bori Sikppang, definitely get the whipped cream too. I'm not usually a big fan of whipped cream, but this one wasn't overly sweet or heavy, so it was genuinely delicious.

Putting a bit of whipped cream on the barley bread added softness and paired really well with the nutty flavor of the bread. Not just me — my whole family said it was delicious, and we finished the whipped cream fast. Personally, I'd recommend getting the whipped cream along with the bread rather than just buying the bread alone. The whipped cream was ₩3,000 and there was plenty — enough to dip all 3 loaves and still have leftovers. So I ended up dipping bagels I had at home into it too, and it was amazing :)

Is Chamsae Bori Sikppang good for a visit with kids?

What stayed with me as much as the taste at Chamsae Bori Sikppang, Bucheon main branch was the kindness. I went with my child, and when they wanted more after trying a sample, the person who seemed to be the owner told them to just keep eating, no problem. Seeing them treat my kid so warmly made me happy too.

Prices and final verdict on Chamsae Bori Sikppang

The rye sweet barley loaf was already a good price, and they even gave a coupon per loaf — thank you~!!! The rye sweet barley loaf I tried was ₩3,700, the daesang sweet barley loaf was ₩6,000, and the grain sweet barley loaf was ₩6,500. Since two varieties were already sold out even at 1pm on a weekend, I'd recommend going a bit earlier if you want to try all three. I went curious after seeing it on Master in the House, and this Bucheon bread favorite turned out to have great bread, satisfying whipped cream, and kind service — now it's a place I want to visit again.

How is this healthy bread so moist, nutty, and slightly sweet all at once? This is a Bucheon bread favorite that makes you wonder. The cranberries and what I think were sunflower seeds gave it a nice bite — my kids usually hate grains in bread, but they went crazy for this one.
