Chicken saagwala and veg biryani at a Pangyo Indian restaurant: Bombay Broy
In short
Bombay Broy Pangyo is an Indian restaurant on the Baekhyeon-dong café street in Pangyo, Seongnam, serving curries, naan, barbecue and fried rice. The writer ordered chicken saagwala and vegetable biryani and left full enough to skip dinner, thanks to a rich curry and a bowl-sized portion of rice. On a day when naan feels boring, Bombay Broy Pangyo's vegetable biryani is a confident recommendation.

Lunch as an office worker in Pangyo is a constant dilemma. Sick of gukbap (rice in soup), sick of baekban (Korean set meals), pho, sushi, the Chinese place… At times like that, there's still spice left in the world. An Indian restaurant on the Baekhyeon-dong café street in Pangyo, where a five-star hotel chef does the cooking.
There's a set menu of curry + naan + tandoori chicken, so you can go in with a sensible plan. But with such a wide range of Indian dishes, it's a temptation for Indian-food addicts. Bombay Broy Pangyo (봄베이브로이 판교점).

Time to graduate from the butter chicken makhani I'd been devouring like Lim Young-woong on stage and step into the wider world of Indian food.

Location on the Baekhyeon-dong café street and the atmosphere
On the Baekhyeon-dong café street in Pangyo — for a Bundang weekend brunch, an office lunch, a date, or sometimes a family meal!
Location and hours
Daily 11:00 - 22:00. Vegan menu available.
About the space
A roomy space at the edge of the café street, sun-filled interior with real atmosphere. Groups welcome.
Wood-tone interior, with a fair number of street trees outside the windows — one of the few spots in Baekhyeon-dong where you can eat while enjoying a view.

As you can see, the light pours in. The rolled napkins on the plates give it a hotel feel.

Feels like being on a trip abroad. Groups of 10 or more are fine too. Pangyo office workers, try slipping this into your next team lunch. It'd be good for a date as well, and if you want to quietly introduce your parents to Indian food, a clean place with this kind of atmosphere is just right.
The staff — chefs and floor staff alike — are all Indian. Their Korean isn't fluent, so English might actually be easier?
Ordering chicken saagwala and vegetable biryani

A curry feast that starts with salad. Jalapeños and pickles come out too.
Curry… the main ingredient is always the hard part, you know? Chicken, lamb, shrimp, beef, chickpeas, cottage cheese… the flavor changes a lot. Palak paneer and butter chicken makhani are the safe ones I order most, but this was a day I wanted something different.
Spinach + chicken combo. One of each thing I love — chicken saagwala it is. The owner must be really proud of the naan, because he kept going 'And naan? Naan?' hahahaha. Ah, I'm not in a naan mood today! I'm going for something unusual! Let's go with rice.
I ordered the vegetable biryani — vegetable fried rice made with Indian rice, cashews, coconut and raisins.

That fluffy, fly-away long-grain fried rice. That was the mood that day. The meat's in the curry, so no need for more.

Enter the two mains~ Is that yogurt and chili oil on top of the curry?
Chicken saagwala tasted like a blend of palak paneer + chicken makhani.
Slightly spicy, fairly intense spices, mellowed out by the spinach. Big chunks of chicken, and plenty of them.
That famous curry place in Dongdaemun is well known, but it's salty… this is a more refined flavor and the portions are far bigger. Rather than going to that Dongdaemun curry place, location-wise and taste-wise, I'll be coming back here. I want to gather four or five people and order five different curries.

Vegetable biryani for a day when naan feels boring
Vegetable biryani — folks, how big do you think this is? ……… It's a mixing bowl. Way too much…. Those two dishes I ordered are more than two servings. I guarantee two grown men would be full.
Fluffy fried rice tossed with curry and vegetables, steaming away — pure happiness… Digging in thinking, wow, I've come to a good place.
Fried rice well coated in curry, with a faint coconut aroma, peas, carrots and other vegetables, and nuts
Seriously delicious… If you're tired of naan, try the biryani. Huge portion, piping hot, packed with curry aroma. Curry tends to be wet and thick in texture — if you want the curry flavor without that, this is absolutely it. The dish that delivers exactly what I wanted from Indian food.

Eat like this at lunch and one meal a day is totally doable. So much food, but I didn't want to leave any… I really worked hard on that biryani, sob.
Finishing with rasgulla for dessert
Dessert! I tried the rasgulla. Gulab jamun (Indian doughnuts) is the famous one, but I didn't feel like anything fried.

Rasgulla is a dessert of ricotta-like cheese soaked in rose-scented syrup. Sweet and soft, it firmly settles the strong aromas and spice of Indian food at the end. A variation beyond lassi and chai — challenge attempted! Success.
A menu that runs from curry to barbecue
Five-star chef skills that satisfy both Indian-food beginners and heavy fans
Menu

Twelve-plus curries, around ten barbecue dishes, naan and fried rice, lassi, gulab jamun and chai — a full-course Indian restaurant. A hotel-or-resort kind of atmosphere, and special curries cooked by a five-star hotel chef.
A Pangyo office lunch I want to repeat
One hundred percent coming back
For the first time in a while, I've found a place where I want to work my way through the whole menu. Next time it's naan, tandoori chicken and lamb curry! A memorable day for a Pangyo office lunch or a Pangyo team dinner nearby. And since the atmosphere is lovely, it can turn a Baekhyeon-dong date or family meal into a special occasion. A place where you can confidently try a new Indian dish: Bombay Broy Pangyo.
