Seongnae-dong tonkatsu restaurant with katsuo udon: Katsu Monster
In short
Katsu Monster Gangdong Office Branch is a Japanese tonkatsu restaurant in Seongnae-dong, Gangdong, Seoul, 249m from Exit 2 of Gangdong Office Station. On a visit with her mom, the writer ordered one mixed katsu B (tenderloin and cheese) and one katsuo fish cake udon (basic) and shared both, and the rice and broth came in generous portions from the start, so no refills were needed. Katsu Monster is a good pick when you want thick tonkatsu alongside a warm bowl of udon broth.

Where is Katsu Monster Gangdong Office Branch?
Katsu Monster Gangdong Office Branch is a Japanese tonkatsu restaurant located 249m from Exit 2 of Gangdong Office Station, at 28 Seongnae-ro, 1F, Gangdong-gu, Seoul, South Korea. It's open daily from 10:30 to 21:00, and parking is available.
These days my mom and I seem to be on a tonkatsu-hunting streak haha 😋 While looking for something tasty but not too heavy, we went to Katsu Monster Gangdong Office Branch near Gangdong Office Station.
It was easy to find being close to the station, and it also looked like a good stop if you're heading to Olympic Park or Gangdong Megabox.

If you're looking for a tonkatsu spot around Seongnae-dong, this one's worth keeping an eye on 🍽️ They specialize in thick, soft Japanese-style tonkatsu, and just looking at the menu, I liked how many katsu varieties they had.

The seats are dachi-style (counter-style), which looks good for solo dining but also fine for eating with a group.
What is on the tonkatsu menu at Katsu Monster?
Katsu tonkatsu menu

From loin katsu, fillet katsu, and premium loin katsu to cheese katsu and mixed katsu, there was a wide range of tonkatsu, plus cold soba, udon, curry udon, karaage and more.

Since I wanted both tenderloin and cheese, I ordered the mixed katsu B (tenderloin, cheese). Thinking two tonkatsu dishes would be too much, we also ordered a katsuo fish cake udon (basic) to share.

With tonkatsu and udon both on the table, it looked pretty generous. They told us to ask if we needed more rice or broth, but the portions were plenty from the start, so we didn't need to add any 😊

How was the mixed katsu B (tenderloin and cheese)?
The mixed katsu B at Katsu Monster Gangdong Office Branch lets you try tenderloin and cheese katsu at once. Best combo 👍🏻 My mom's team tenderloin, I'm team cheese! Perfect for two people picking one each.

The tenderloin was cut nice and thick, the batter wasn't too thick, and the inside was tender.

How to eat tonkatsu at its best ✨
At first I wanted to taste the tonkatsu on its own, so I dipped it lightly in salt. Once I'd tasted the meat itself, I then mixed a bit of hot mustard into the tonkatsu sauce and dipped it in that — that combo was delicious too.

The cheese katsu is a must-order if you're a cheese lover haha. Eaten while warm, the cheese melted in smoothly, giving it a different charm from the tenderloin. Ordering the mixed version meant we each got to pick our favorite part instead of sticking to just one option.
What the katsuo fish cake udon adds to the meal
And the katsuo fish cake udon we ordered alongside 🍜

The udon noodles were chewy and the portion was substantial enough to pair with the tonkatsu. Eating the chewy noodles with the warm broth made things much easier than eating tonkatsu alone, and sipping the udon broth in between bites worked really well together.

Is one mixed katsu and one udon enough for two?
We split one tonkatsu and one udon between the two of us, but it ended up being more than expected, so we both left pretty full 🐷🐽 Being close to Gangdong Office Station made it easy to reach, and the clean interior made it a comfortable place to eat with my mom.
A place worth checking out when you're craving Japanese food in Seongnae-dong, or looking for a tonkatsu spot near Olympic Park. At Katsu Monster Gangdong Office Branch, if you want thick Japanese-style tonkatsu paired with udon, this combo is worth trying.
