CatchTable waitlist for barley rice in Yeongtong, Suwon: Boriook

Even on a weekday, there was a wait — that's how popular this barley rice spot in Suwon is!

This is Boriook Main Branch, a Mangpo Station favorite.

There were especially a lot of older customers, and I could see exactly why people love this place!

A place more locals visit than tourists, and genuinely a great spot for a family meal or a gathering in Yeongtong.

To cut to the chase: from the barley rice to the self-serve side dishes and the namul (seasoned vegetable) corner, you can refill as much as you want, so it was a healthy and filling meal.

On top of that, the restaurant was clean and the staff were kind, so it ended up being a day I properly stuffed myself after a long while ❤

Where is Boriook Main Branch, and how long is the CatchTable wait?

Boriook is a barley rice specialty restaurant near Mangpo Station. That day, I'd come to Mangpo Station to check out the new Megatown Pharmacy at Suwon Fantasium and decided to grab lunch with a friend!

There was parking space right in front of the restaurant, and I could also check nearby parking info, so it was convenient to drive here.

Before going in, I checked CatchTable at the entrance and there was already a wait at Boriook. So I put my name down right away and started waiting 👍 Tables turned over faster than expected, and I got in quickly.

Inside Boriook: seating and atmosphere

Once inside, the place was bigger than I expected, and even though it's a barley rice restaurant, the interior was so clean and pretty that I was even more satisfied.

There was a variety of seating and the overall vibe was clean and comfortable. It felt like a place that draws everyone from families to elderly diners. Above all, the fact that there was a wait even on a weekday told me this place is already pretty well known in Yeongtong and Mangpo.

Boriook menu and prices: barley rice set and mackerel set

The basic barley rice set was ₩13,000 per person, and besides that there were set meals served with mackerel, soy sauce pork, or pork bulgogi. I went with the mackerel set at ₩15,000 per person for two :)

They also sold à la carte dishes, but the set meals were much better value ❤

What is on Boriook's unlimited self-serve bar?

Once you order, the side dishes (all kinds of namul, fritters, and more) are refillable at the self-serve bar.

There were delicious namul perfect for mixing into barley rice, along with acorn jelly, lettuce wraps, and more.

The vegetable fritters everyone raves about were also stocked generously.

Japchae (glass noodle stir-fry) and braised tofu. The braised tofu was spicier than I expected — totally my style ❤

You could refill rice and sungnyung anytime.

For dessert, this Suwon barley rice restaurant also had coffee, plum tea, peach iced tea, and snacks ready to go.

Once the brass bowls are set, you just scoop up whatever side dishes you like. Done.

Ta-da. While I was scooping from the self-serve bar, the mackerel was ready in no time.

Golden-brown, beautifully cooked mackerel — maybe grilled over a wood fire?

A bubbling pot of cheonggukjang (fermented soybean stew) also came out, and honestly, why is it so good? It went really well with the barley rice too.

Me, excited to properly dig into a barley rice bibimbap after so long ❤

I added japchae and later braised tofu too and mixed it all together — and honey, that's incredible.

Sesame oil and gochujang (red chili paste) were ready on every table too.

With so many side dishes, mixing everything together was a real treat, and the mackerel was satisfying too. I mixed up plenty of rice, ate until I was full, grabbed some plum tea and snacks for dessert, and wrapped up a happy lunch :)

Is Boriook a good spot for a family meal?

Boriook is a great place to visit on days when you want to properly eat rice and side dishes rather than something spicy or heavy. With so many kinds of side dishes, and refills available for everything from barley rice to namul and self-serve dishes, it seemed like a fine place to bring along elderly family members too. Perfect for a family meal or a get-together ❤ On top of that, the prices are reasonable, so it seems like a place that will keep being loved. If you're craving a hearty full course in Yeongtong, run to this place.
