A full spread of yukhoe and salmon at Yukyeon Sikdang Mukdong near Meokgol Station

If you're looking for a place near Meokgol Station in Jungnang, Seoul, that does yukhoe and salmon really well, please read this closely. As the weather warms up, or whenever you're eating any kind of raw dish, freshness is the number one concern, right? I'm pretty sensitive to freshness myself, so I always dig through reviews carefully before going anywhere for yukhoe or salmon.

This visit to Yukyeon Sikdang Mukdong branch blew past my expectations — it was so fresh and delicious. I'm not exaggerating: out of the fair number of yukhoe and salmon places I've been to, this was the freshest one I've ever eaten at.

And as the weather heats up, freshness concerns naturally come to mind whenever you're eating raw meat or raw fish, right? But the moment you walk in here, the air conditioning is blasting and properly cold, so you feel the comfort right away. You can tell they pay close attention to indoor temperature to keep the food at its freshest and the customers comfortable, which put me at ease right off the bat.

Why the yukhoe tastes so fresh: fast turnover

While I sat down to order and waited, what caught my eye was all the takeout and delivery orders. Delivery riders kept coming in, and there was a nonstop stream of customers picking up takeout.

For a restaurant handling raw food, turnover rate is really the single most decisive factor for freshness. It means stock doesn't sit around — it keeps getting used up and restocked.

The complimentary seaweed soup was delicious too — that deep, long-simmered flavor!!

Watching all that takeout and delivery go out, I thought, ah, the turnover here is really something, I don't need to worry about freshness — and once the food arrived and I tasted it, that instinct turned out to be 100% right.

What comes with the 33,000 won yukhoe and salmon set

Ordered: Yukhoe + Salmon Set (₩33,000)

We ordered the most representative and popular item, the 'yukhoe + salmon set.' It costs ₩33,000, and considering the composition, portion size, and quality, I thought the value for money was genuinely excellent.

The ₩33,000 yukhoe + salmon set on one plate

One plate comes packed full of yukhoe and salmon. The moment I saw the neatly plated yukhoe and salmon, my mouth started watering.

Yukhoe packed densely alongside thick-cut salmon

How did the yukhoe taste?

The yukhoe was glossy and shiny, and the salmon was thick-cut, both practically announcing their freshness through their color alone haha. I tried the yukhoe first. There was absolutely zero gamey smell, and the texture of the meat itself was chewy yet melted right in my mouth.

A chopstick-full of yukhoe with sesame oil aroma

Above all, the seasoning was spot on. Not overly sweet or salty, it kept the meat's natural flavor intact while the nutty sesame oil aroma and seasoning blended together perfectly — I couldn't put my chopsticks down. Popping the yolk and topping it with a bit of radish sprouts and pear brought together a mix of sharpness, sweetness, and nuttiness that was just rich and satisfying.

Thick-cut salmon, best eaten with the seaweed

Next I tried the salmon. It was sliced with a bit of extra thickness, which made the texture really stand out. The moment I bit into it, I got that distinctively soft yet springy texture, and the salmon's characteristic nutty flavor spread through my mouth.

Thickly sliced raw salmon

There was no fishy taste at all, and it had a clean finish without being greasy — good dipped in vinegared chili sauce, good with the sauce on the side, and it went great with the seaweed served alongside.

Salmon eaten wrapped in dried seaweed

They give you one sheet of Saeupyo Wando dried seaweed per person, and it went so well with both the yukhoe and salmon that I finished it all haha.

Why Yukyeon Sikdang has so many regulars

Plate of yukhoe and salmon nearly finished

Alternating bites of yukhoe and salmon, I immediately understood why this place has so many regulars and such a high repeat visit rate. It's not popular just because of generous portions or a cheap price — the freshness of the base ingredients and the overall quality of the food are outstanding. If this were near my house, I'd definitely be ordering takeout or delivery all the time!!!!

The table after finishing the meal at Yukyeon Sikdang Mukdong

Being able to enjoy the freshest possible yukhoe and salmon, backed by an incredible turnover rate, in a cool comfortable space with no worries about the heat — I think that's the biggest strength of Yukyeon Sikdang Mukdong. If you're near Meokgol Station and want proper yukhoe or salmon with a glass of soju, or if you're looking for a fresh, high-quality spot for solo dining and solo drinking, don't hesitate — stop by.
