I visited a spicy bone-in stew spot in Meokgol where the meat comes piled up like a mountain. They're even running a 2nd anniversary soju discount, so it's a great value visit.

Where is Wanttuk Gamjatang Meokgol Main Branch? Parking and hours
Wanttuk Gamjatang Meokgol Main Branch is located at 941 Dongil-ro, Building 101 Sangga Unit 101, Jungnang-gu, Seoul, and is open daily from 10:30 to 22:30. Monday through Friday there's a break time from 15:00 to 17:00, with last order at 22:00. For parking, enter through the barrier gate at the left entrance facing the building and park on the ground level.
It's located between Taereung Ipgu and Meokgol stations — a 5-minute walk from Meokgol Station Exit 7, and also close to Taereung Ipgu Station Exit 8, so accessibility was great.
If you're driving, you can park in the building's lot. I went in the evening and the place filled up fast with families, solo diners, and people enjoying a drink with their meal.
It seems like it would get busy with office workers from nearby at lunchtime too, grabbing gukbap (rice soup) or hangover soup.
Inside Wanttuk Gamjatang: seating and the self-serve bar
The inside of Wanttuk Gamjatang Meokgol Main Branch feels clean and modern, unlike a typical gamjatang restaurant. ☕ The space is spacious and well-organized, making it a good spot for group gatherings.
The tables had plenty of space between them, and each table had its own ordering menu.
There were lots of 4-person tables, and I liked how spread out the seating was.
There's a self-bar in the back with diced radish kimchi, pickled onions, peppers, and ssamjang (seasoned soybean paste). The utensils and surrounding area were spotless, so it felt safe to use.
The tables have signs about the review event and a guide for making your own fried rice. If you leave a receipt review, you get 2 fried shrimp or a drink for free.

The basic side dishes are diced radish kimchi, peppers, onions, and ssamjang. Mustard sauce and pepper are also set out on each table.

What I ordered was the bone-in stew (small, spicy) for ₩40,000.
The small bone-in stew I ordered came piled high in an individual hot pot. On top of the minari and mushrooms, there was a mushroom stamped with 'Wanttuk Gamjatang' — a fun little detail haha.
Even after the mushrooms and vegetables cooked down, the portion was still huge. There were also a ton of plump, whole shrimp.
Loaded with shrimp, squid, clams, and minari — this was truly a delicious seafood bone-in stew!
There were several chewy long rice cake sticks mixed in too, which made it fun to pick through.
Compared to a typical stew, the broth is thinner, so the seasoning really soaks into the meat, giving it a moist texture with no dryness.
How spicy is the spicy version really?
The spicy bone-in stew at Wanttuk Gamjatang Meokgol Main Branch is quite spicy if you eat the broth on its own, but if you just eat the sauce-coated bean sprouts and meat, it's a great level for anyone who likes spicy food. (For reference, I can handle beginner-level spicy buldak noodles or yeoptteok while still sweating a bit.)
The meat pulled apart easily with chopsticks. The pieces were so big I ended up putting on gloves to pick them apart. The spice was deliciously addictive, so I kept reaching for more.
Since the broth is on the thinner side, it would also be great for mixing with fried rice. It had a thicker consistency than regular gamjatang broth, with an addictively spicy flavor.
The portion of bone-in stew was really huge, but the two of us cleaned the pot completely.. we thought about adding fried rice but held back. 😅
