Gyeongju dessert shop: raw chocolate and pineapple mochi, Tareudang
In short
Tareudang is a seasonal fruit mochi dessert shop on the main lane of Hwangnidang-gil in Gyeongju, Gyeongbuk. From the seven flavors on the September 19 lineup, this visit took home raw chocolate, gold kiwi, pineapple and fig yogurt, earning the 500 won discount per piece for buying four; a line formed 10 minutes before the 11:00 opening, but turnover was fast and the wait was almost nothing. With the new autumn gotgam sando (dried persimmon sandwich) also on the counter, Tareudang is an easy stop for Gyeongju travel gifts.

Today I visited Tareudang, the dessert hotspot you have to try when you're in Hwangnidang-gil, Gyeongju. Tareudang is a fruit mochi shop that packs whole seasonal fruit into each piece — a six-sided dessert spot that nails unique, ever-changing menus, gorgeous visuals, and a sweet chewy taste all at once! It's also a fantastic souvenir for a Gyeongju trip. Let's get into the review.
Where Tareudang is in Gyeongju, plus parking and wait times
Tareudang is at 49 Sajeong-ro, Gyeongju-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do, on the main street of Hwangnidang-gil, open daily 11:00–19:00. There's no dedicated parking lot, so if you're driving, public parking is recommended.

It's on the main street of Hwangnidang-gil, right across from Korea Semiconductor Meister High School. It's easy to find on foot or by public transit since it's right across the crosswalk. If you're driving, there's no dedicated lot, so I'd recommend using the public parking.

Opening time is 11am, but you can already see a line forming around 10:50. Tareudang is already a well-known dessert hotspot. Turnover is fast and they keep making fresh fruit mochi to restock, so I was able to buy right away with barely any wait.
Tareudang's menu and the new autumn gotgam sando
Tareudang's menu is broadly split into gotgam sando, jumbo fruit mochi, and tarts. Since it's autumn, gotgam sando (dried persimmon sandwich) just launched, and jumbo fruit mochi gets a ₩500 discount per piece when you buy 4 or more.

The seven fruit mochi flavors on the September 19 lineup
On the day I visited, September 19, Tareudang's fruit mochi lineup had 7 flavors: persimmon yogurt, peach yogurt, mango yogurt, fig yogurt, pineapple, gold kiwi, and raw chocolate. There were low-sugar options too, so the choices were wide.

The September 19 lineup: persimmon yogurt, peach yogurt, mango yogurt, fig yogurt, pineapple, gold kiwi, raw chocolate.

There are low-sugar options too, so you can pick based on diet, or for kids and elders.

There were lots of customers, but they packed orders so quickly that there was almost no wait time.
Whole fresh fruit inside: packing the mochi to go
Tareudang's fruit mochi comes in a basic box, which makes a great Gyeongju travel souvenir as-is. Each piece is wrapped individually in colorful paper, with a plastic layer inside for double packaging.

Even the basic box is so cute that it works perfectly as a travel souvenir gift just as it is.

It's the kind of magic taste you keep eating once you try it — I'd recommend getting extra to give as gifts to friends and family! A crowd-pleasing present!

Each piece individually rolled in colorful paper — such a pretty, thoughtful-looking package!

The weather's been cool lately so I skipped the cold pack, but if your travel time is long I'd recommend adding one.
How do Tareudang's fruit mochi taste? Raw chocolate, pineapple, fig and gold kiwi
Tareudang's fruit mochi has raw chocolate that's packed dense and rich, while pineapple has a whole chunk of tangy sweet fruit inside. The menu changes every season, so there's real fun in checking off new flavors.

There's fun in trying something different each season, checking off new flavors one by one. The raw chocolate is packed with dense chocolate — not too sweet, so it doesn't get tiring. The pineapple is a must! Tangy sweet pineapple flesh bursting inside. The yogurt cream is also delicious, and the mochi wrapping the cream and fruit is chewy and just so good.

Fig yogurt with a whole fig, currently in season! And gold kiwi with a whole kiwi too! If you freeze it briefly in the fridge, it eats like ice cream — a whole different experience. It's double-packed inside the colored paper with a plastic wrap, so it's clean and easy to eat.
The raw chocolate and fig were both new to me this time! Flavors kids would especially love.
Pineapple and gold kiwi are the steady year-round menu items. Delicious in every season!! Great with coffee or milk, easy as a snack dessert, but hearty enough to stand in for a light meal too. Highly recommend visiting Tareudang, the dessert hotspot!
