Why this family picked a Cheongdang-dong barbecue spot after flu quarantine
My daughter had a rough time with a high fever from the flu! After her week of quarantine ended, she said she wanted meat to help her recover, so we headed to Motsaenggin Ttungdwaeji, a well-known BBQ spot in Cheongdang-dong!

Inside the restaurant: seating and the self-serve side bar

What caught my eye from the outside was the 'Saturdays Are for Good Food' Cheonan City Top 10 Taste award and an excellence award for pork dishes from the Korea Consumer Industry Evaluation!

Walking inside, the place was quite spacious with plenty of tables.

With the cool autumn weather, the window seats were the most popular, and it was a great spot for a family of four to dine. Further inside there were larger tables, perfect for group dinners and gatherings.

The self-serve bar had ginger, garlic, chili peppers, kimchi paste, seaweed kimchi, pickled chili, baek-kimchi, pickled perilla leaves, radish wraps, ssamjang (dipping paste), salt, sesame oil, and various dishware including a kids' fork and spoon.
Side dishes and the steamed egg custard for the kids

A generous spread of basic side dishes!

Seaweed, baek-kimchi, pickled perilla leaves, seaweed, mustard radish wrap, radish wrap, salt, pollack roe, shredded ginger, grilled salted shrimp, ssamjang.
Plus fried egg, corn salad, doenjang stew scallions, and their special soy sauce!

We also ordered egg custard for the kids! It was moist and soft — exactly the style kids love.

How do the raw pork ribs, cheek meat and kkodeulsal neck meat taste?
While we browsed the owner's recommended top-5 wrap combos, our meat order arrived!

Cheek meat, jowl meat (crunchy cut), then raw ribs, all served fresh and raw at Motsaenggin Ttungdwaeji! The 'raw ribs' didn't look like the ribs I know, but they did have the rib bone, so I asked staff and they confirmed it really was raw ribs, haha!
We laid it on the charcoal grill along with the provided galchi-jeot (salted hairtail sauce).
The jowl and cheek meat looked great too... but the raw ribs had the best presentation of all.

Chewy texture on both the cheek meat and jowl meat! We used to be really into pork specialty cuts, and eating them again after a while, they were so delicious.

The owner's recommended wrap combo: salted fish, perilla leaf and green onion kimchi
Following the owner's recommended tips, we enjoyed the meat in various ways!
- Meat + radish wrap + seaweed (soy sauce, scallion sauce)
- Meat + aged kimchi + soy sauce, scallion sauce
- Meat (galchi-jeot) + perilla leaf + scallion sauce
- Meat (soy sauce) + green onion kimchi
It's not like it had been ages since we last had meat, but the moment I took that first bite, it was so good! The pickled perilla leaves and green onion kimchi were the best in particular!
Finishing with somyeon noodles, then slushies and coffee
We finished with somyeon noodles, and it was a brilliant choice! Slurped down easily with the rich broth and kimchi.

After the meal, slushies and coffee were set up outside the restaurant, which made for a wonderful way to cleanse the palate.

Thanks to the delicious meat and dessert, we ate really well again today!
