Pyeongdae-ri café in Jeju with a paper boat pond: Sigan-eul Damda

Today I visited Sigan-eul Damda Gujwa, a pond-watching café near Sehwa Beach in Gujwa, Jeju. Between the owner's own hand-made carrot desserts, the swallows that come to drink from the pond, and an interior packed with lavender flowers, it was such a good place to spend quiet time.

The pond, the stepping stones, and the swallows that come to drink

Sigan-eul Damda in Sehwa-ri is a two-story white building — the café is on the first floor, and the second floor operates as a stay. The first thing that caught my eye was the wide pond right in front of the café!!

If you photograph someone crossing the stepping stones from the opposite side, you get a really pretty shot! It would have been even prettier if the sky had been clear, haha. It's also great to sit inside the café and stare at the pond — there are a lot of swallows nearby, and they come to swim or drink water. So cool and fascinating!!

Inside Sigan-eul Damda Gujwa: lavender hung across the ceiling

Once you step inside, you find a cozy space that isn't huge, but the lavender hanging gorgeously from the ceiling was so, so pretty 💜💜💟. Photos come out really well here, and the quiet background music makes the mood even better.

What are the signature drinks and desserts?

Time to order. There was a wide range of coffee, ade, tea, and desserts — and it seemed like they especially specialize in tea.

The Royal Crystal Blossom, known as flower bingsu, is supposedly made by pouring flower-steeped syrup over milk shaved ice. I was really curious about it, but since I was thirsty today, I decided to order a drink and a dessert instead, haha. I'll be sure to try the bingsu next time.

Folding a free paper boat on the pond, plus the wish candle

At the pond, there's also a free experience where you fold and float your own paper boat, one per person, haha. Also, if you join the Naver review event, you can float a wish candle that's normally ₩3,000 for free — worth joining if you're there 👏

Diffusers and aroma oils made by the owner

Looking around the café, it seemed clear the owner has a deep understanding of scent! There were diffusers and aroma oil products all over the café made with scents the owner developed personally. The fragrances were so nice that it was fun to smell each one, and the prices were reasonable too, so anyone who needs a car air freshener or diffuser might want to pick one up.

My personal favorite scent was 'Lavender Organic.' I already love lavender scent, and this one had a strong lavender note that I liked. Each scent even had a recommended MBTI type listed, and I was surprised the lavender one matched my MBTI exactly, haha. If you buy a scent, you get a free plaster Dol hareubang diffuser!!

How the Passion in Rose ade, Green Tea with Mandarin and Malenka taste

Here's what we ordered! Passion in Rose ade 7.5 / Malenka (walnut) 6.5 / Green tea with mandarin 7.0 / Carrot ddeora cake 8.0. Just the visuals alone made me want to take photos, don't you think?! The white tray with all the colorful drinks matched so well.

'Passion in Rose' ade is full of rose and tropical fruit flavor. They serve the carbonated water base and the ade syrup separately, so you can adjust the sweetness yourself — I really liked that. The syrup itself was rich and deep but not too sweet, so I ended up pouring all of it into the ade, haha.

Green tea with mandarin is green tea with a subtle citrus scent, making it refreshing to drink! Even ordered iced, it was still strong, which suited my taste perfectly. Malenka tasted just like the familiar Malenka I always know!! The layered bread and walnuts went really well together. It's sweet enough that it would pair nicely with an Americano too :)

How do you eat the carrot ddeora cake?

The signature menu item I was most looking forward to, 🥕the 'carrot ddeora cake'🥕 — as the name suggests, it's a cake you scoop and eat! Just the visuals were so cute, and the colors were wild — carrot powder is sprinkled on top and it's so pretty. They told us to eat it as soon as possible, since leaving it too long makes it sticky and clumpy from the heat!

They kindly explained how to eat it too — scoop deep with your spoon all the way down to the bottom of the cup. At the very bottom were layers of warm baekseolgi (white rice cake), carrot jam, and sweet whipped cream, all stacked up.

The vivid color of the carrot jam against the white baekseolgi was gorgeous just to look at, and honestly, I thought 'cake is cake, they're all similar' — but it was truly a great combination and delicious!! I'm so glad we ordered it, and I really recommend it!! My sister said she'd come back again just for this, haha. Now I'm even more curious about the flower bingsu, haha.

A quiet café near Sehwa Beach that works for solo visits

From the moment you walk in, the mood the pond gives off, the owner's kindness, the lavender-wrapped interior, the gentle scent and music wrapping around you, and the upscale handmade desserts and tea — nothing was missing, and I enjoyed it quietly the whole time :) Even on a weekend it wasn't crowded, so it's a great place to visit alone too.
