Yukhoe bibimbap and mungtigi in Jongno, Daegu: Chulgeungil Saenggogi
In short
Chulgeungil Saenggogi Daegu Jongno Branch is a mungtigi (thick-cut raw beef) and raw beef restaurant in Jongno, Jung-gu, Daegu. Two couples visited after putting the kids to bed, booking ahead and ordering the large half-and-half mungtigi set as a full Gyeongsang-style plate, two yukhoe bibimbap (raw beef rice bowl) for the meal, and spicy ramyeon free for leaving a Naver receipt review. The chewy mungtigi with makjang soybean sauce and the nutty, not-too-salty yukhoe bibimbap were both worth the trip.

Chulgeungil Saenggogi Daegu Jongno Branch: a mungtigi restaurant in Jongno for a night out after bedtime
Chulgeungil Saenggogi Daegu Jongno Branch is a mungtigi (raw beef) restaurant in Jongno, Jung-gu, Daegu. Two couples, just off bedtime duty for the night, headed here to unwind.

There's no dedicated parking lot, but since our places weren't far, we just walked over.

There's waiting seating by the entrance, so it looked comfortable enough even if you had to wait. For reference, we'd already booked ahead.

How big is Chulgeungil Saenggogi, and what does the Naver review service give you?
The interior wasn't huge — about 8 tables set up for 4 people each. If you walk to the back and go through the door, the restroom is there.
If you participate in a Naver receipt review, you can get 2 per table from mini hanwoo yukhoe, highball, or spicy ramyeon — definitely worth doing!

Choosing the mungtigi half-and-half set: Gyeongsang-style, Jeolla-style, jeongak or chadol
Both couples came straight from putting the kids to bed without having had dinner, so we were starving. But raw beef alone wouldn't quite fill us up, so we ordered two yukhoe bibimbap for the meal and a large mungtigi half-and-half set as the main.
For reference, the mungtigi half-and-half set lets you pick two, or just one whole portion, from Gyeongsang-style mungtigi, Jeolla-style mungtigi, jeongak mungtigi, and chadol sashimi. Jeolla-style was sold out that day, so we just ordered a full plate of Gyeongsang-style.
Side dishes and the makjang soybean sauce

A table packed with banchan and a full plate of mungtigi. A gorgeous spread of drinking food laid out in front of us.

The banchan came in lots of varieties and all of them tasted great. We're not big fans of cheonyeop (beef tripe) or raw liver, so we sadly had to leave most of those, but for anyone who loves them, this would be prime drinking food they'd scrape clean~~

The makjang sauce that's a must with mungtigi. Nutty, spicy, and full of umami — dip the mungtigi right in and it's genuinely delicious✨️
Gyeongsang-style mungtigi so fresh it sticks when the plate is flipped

A full plate of beautifully colored mungtigi✨️ Everyone said people flip the plate when they order mungtigi, so we tried it too, hahaha. And it really didn't budge — completely stuck to the plate.

Dip the fresh mungtigi generously in the makjang, and first the sauce's umami hits, then the nuttiness of the mungtigi spreads out the more you chew — truly fantastic. The chewy, springy texture of the mungtigi in particular. It had been a while since I'd had it, and it was so, so good.

Yukhoe bibimbap and mini bindaetteok to finish the meal
Then the yukhoe bibimbap we'd ordered for the meal arrived, with mini bindaetteok (mung bean pancake) alongside.

The bindaetteok was light and delicious. Honestly, I wanted a few more..🫢

The raw beef on top of the yukhoe bibimbap looked noticeably better quality than what we usually eat. The color alone was different.
You mix in the seasoning sauce for the yukhoe bibimbap to your own taste, and the two of us used all of it they gave us. Even so, it wasn't salty at all — just nutty and delicious. We polished off both bowls in no time✨️

The spicy ramyeon we got as a bonus for joining the review event. The fiery, sharp broth was perfect with drinks.

While we were chatting over drinks, we spotted a cat sleeping as comfortably as if it were in its own bedroom. It looked like the restaurant probably fed it regularly. It was sleeping so soundly.. watching it made us miss our own cat, and the night got a little more nostalgic.
Is Chulgeungil Saenggogi in Jongno, Daegu worth a visit?
The mungtigi was so good after not having had it in a while, and having a drink after bedtime duty put us all in a great mood. If mungtigi comes to mind in Jongno, Daegu, this is the place🥩 The savory yukhoe bibimbap makes an even better combo👍 Recommended if you're looking for a raw beef restaurant in Daegu✨️
