Deokcheon Korean gastropub in Busan: chicken neck stew and croffle
In short
Jansang is a Korean gastropub on Deokcheon 2-gil in Buk-gu, Busan, serving Korean-style dishes meant for sharing over drinks. A couple came by for dinner and ordered mokdori-tang (spicy dakdoritang-style stew made with chicken neck meat), draft beer, and an injeolmi croffle topped with ice cream, and liked how the spicy broth was rounded off by a sweet dessert. Jansang is a good pick in Deokcheon for a filling first round with a drink.

Finding Jansang while looking for a Korean gastropub in Deokcheon, Busan
Jansang is a Korean gastropub on Deokcheon 2-gil in Buk-gu, Busan, focused on Korean-style drinking snacks. My husband and I found it while looking for somewhere to have dinner and a drink together that evening.
These days, the thing we say most often when we go out to eat as a couple is: "I don't want meat today, I want something different." "But I still want a drink." "Not a super loud bar though, and the food has to actually be good." It's surprisingly hard to find a place that checks all three boxes.
Korean barbecue places are great but feel a bit heavy, izakayas have good vibes but the portions can be disappointing, and regular bars tend to have predictable snacks. While searching around Buk-gu, Busan for a decent Korean gastropub, we came across Jansang.

At first the name just caught my eye because it sounded nice, but looking at the menu, there were a lot of dishes that seemed right up our alley. What we ended up ordering that day was mokdori-tang. Simply put, it's like dakdoritang (spicy braised chicken stew) but made with chicken neck meat — and honestly, the name alone makes you curious. Dakdoritang is familiar, but chicken neck meat? We had to order it just to see what the texture would be like.

We also had beer alongside it, and finished with an injeolmi croffle topped with ice cream. Bottom line: we both left happy. Spicy Korean snacks with a beer, then a sweet dessert to finish — it ended up feeling like a proper date. If you're looking for a good Korean gastropub in Deokcheon, Jansang is worth a visit.

What is the atmosphere like inside Jansang?
Jansang is located in Buk-gu, Busan, which made it convenient for a get-together near Deokcheon. There are plenty of bars and restaurants around Deokcheon, but finding one with an actually good atmosphere for a Korean gastropub takes a bit more thought than you'd expect. That day, we weren't just looking for a place to drink — we wanted somewhere with proper food to go with it.
Since Jansang centers its menu around Korean-style drinking food, the whole lineup felt like it sat somewhere between a meal and bar snacks. It suited us well as a couple who wanted both dinner and a beer.
We're not big fans of overly chaotic bars — we can't stay long in those. Jansang had just the right amount of atmosphere without feeling like too much. It had that warm feeling specific to Korean gastropubs, and since the menu leaned toward soup-based or Korean-style snacks, it felt like a place you could comfortably start your night at. Good for a date, good for a casual drink with friends too.

What we ordered at Jansang that night
Here's what we ended up ordering:
- Mokdori-tang
- Injeolmi croffle
Think of mokdori-tang as dakdoritang made with chicken neck meat. We've had regular dakdoritang plenty of times, but a dish made with chicken neck isn't common, so we were extra curious. And of course, a spicy soup-based snack calls for a cold beer.
Ordering the injeolmi croffle at the end was a bit of an impulse decision, but it turned out to be a great call. After the spicy mokdori-tang, finishing with a sweet croffle felt like it cleared our palates completely.
There really are so many different menu items, right?!

Jansang's mokdori-tang: how does the chicken neck meat taste?
Here's the mokdori-tang, finally. Jansang's version is chicken neck meat in a red sauce, simmered bubbling at the table, and it looked great the moment it landed — instantly put us in bar-snack mode. We're both fans of soup-based snacks, so seeing this dish come out already got our expectations up. The texture was much more interesting than regular dakdoritang.

The chewy texture unique to chicken neck meat made it more satisfying to bite into than a dakdoritang made with regular chicken. My husband took one bite and said, "This has good texture," and kept going back for more. I'm a fan of chicken neck meat myself, and paired with the spicy sauce, it worked really well as a drinking snack.

The seasoning wasn't just overwhelmingly spicy — it was spicy in a way that kept us reaching for more. The broth wasn't too thin either, and the sauce soaked well into the chicken neck meat, making it a great match for beer. Chicken neck meat has a different kind of appeal from soft chicken breast.

Mokdori-tang with draft beer at Jansang
The draft beer came with a bit of ice crystal on top, so refreshingly cold! We drank it alongside the mokdori-tang, and the pairing was pretty great. Dakdoritang usually makes you think of soju first, but mokdori-tang went really well with beer too.
A bite of the spicy broth, then a sip of cold beer, went down cleanly every time. My husband tends to prefer beer, and he really liked this pairing that day. I also realized once again just how well soup-based snacks go with beer.

It really was a great drinking snack. Regular dakdoritang is fun for the potatoes or the chicken leg meat, but Jansang's mokdori-tang felt more special because of the unique texture of the chicken neck meat. If you're looking for something a little different from the usual Deokcheon bar snacks, you'd probably like this dish.

Is Jansang filling enough for a first round?
What we liked about the mokdori-tang was that it wasn't just a drinking snack in feel. With the sauce, the broth, and the chicken neck meat all together, it was as filling as a proper meal. We visited for dinner and a drink, and this one dish alone was quite satisfying.
Sometimes at bars, if the food is too light or the portion too small, you end up thinking about a second round. But Jansang's mokdori-tang had that stick-to-your-ribs quality typical of Korean dishes, making it a good choice for a first round.

Picking out pieces of chicken neck one by one from the spicy broth made for good pacing while we talked. It was perfect for us to sit and chat for a while, the way a couple does when they haven't had time together in a bit.

Dessert to finish: Jansang's injeolmi croffle with ice cream
After the mokdori-tang and beer, we started craving something sweet. I usually like having dessert after drinking, and since Jansang's menu had an injeolmi croffle, we ordered it right away. Honestly, I didn't expect much from a croffle at a bar, but it was way better than expected.

The injeolmi croffle came topped with ice cream too, so it looked great from the start. Eating a warm croffle together with cold ice cream was such a good combo. Crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside, with the nutty flavor of injeolmi (sweet rice cake coated in roasted bean powder) added in — a perfect way to finish. Maybe because we'd just had the spicy mokdori-tang, the sweet, nutty flavor tasted even better.
My husband first said, "A croffle, at a bar?" but after one bite, he admitted it was a good order. Having the ice cream alongside it was especially great for cleansing the palate.
As a couple, when we eat out, we prefer a mix of flavors rather than one note running through the whole meal — spicy food followed by a sweet dessert — and Jansang delivered exactly that. We expected a Korean gastropub to only have snacks, but the dessert being this good made the visit even more memorable. It seemed like a great spot for couples in their 20s and 30s looking for a date-night visit too.

The mokdori-tang in particular felt a little more special than regular dakdoritang, thanks to the chicken neck meat's texture.
At Jansang in Buk-gu, Busan, we had mokdori-tang, beer, and injeolmi croffle. The mokdori-tang was like dakdoritang made with chicken neck meat, and its chewy texture was appealing — the spicy sauce and broth paired really well with beer. It was much heartier than typical bar snacks, making it a good option for dinner and a drink together.
The injeolmi croffle we had to finish came with ice cream, sweet and nutty, and worked well as a dessert after the spicy mokdori-tang. Overall, we both left happy with the visit. We'll probably think of it again next time we're having a drink around Deokcheon.
