Seongjeong-dong chicken stew for two, leftovers packed to go: Sottture
In short
Sottture Dakdoritang is a pot-cooked chicken stew (dakdoritang) restaurant in Seongjeong-dong, Cheonan, directly across from Lotte Mart. The one-chicken dakdoritang (35,000 won) and flat mandu (5,000 won) arrived in a portion closer to three servings, so two people could not finish it and packed the rest into containers from the staff, eating in the wall-posted order of rice cakes, vegetables, wings, breast, then drumsticks. I was craving spicy dakdoritang (Korean braised chicken stew) today, so I headed to "Sottture Dakdoritang" in Seongjeong-dong! I'd been saving this place after seeing photos of it bubbling away in a big pot, and I finally made it over there haha. I ordered a whole chicken stew plus flat mandu and ate my heart out — here's the review!

Where is Sottture Dakdoritang, and is there parking?
Sottture Dakdoritang is located across from Lotte Mart in Seongjeong-dong, right next to Gwangje Women's Clinic! There's a parking lot behind the building, so it's convenient even if you're driving.

Inside Sottture Dakdoritang: dining room and self-serve bar
Once inside, the restaurant was spacious and clean, which made for a comfortable meal ✨ The tables were spaced generously and everything looked tidy, so it seemed great for family outings, friend gatherings, or work dinners!

The self-serve bar was also kept nice and clean, so it was easy to grab extra side dishes whenever I needed them! ヽ(〃'▽'〃)ノ
Menu and tablet ordering: whole chicken 35,000 won, flat mandu 5,000 won

Ordering is easy through the tablet installed at each table! We ordered the one-chicken dakdoritang (₩35,000) and a side of flat mandu (₩5,000)! Also, if you join the Naver receipt review event, you get free fried gimmari and fried mandu as a service — make sure to take part in this event when you visit!
One-chicken dakdoritang: a three-serving portion for two people

After ordering, the basic side dishes were set out: kimchi, pickled radish, pickled onion, and pickles!

And here it is — the one-chicken dakdoritang!! It came in a big pot packed with spicy broth, chicken, rice cakes, and vegetables, and just the look of it made my mouth water. The portion was way more generous than I expected — it looked like about three servings! Plenty for the two of us to share!

Sottture Dakdoritang says they use domestic chicken and a special low-temperature aged sauce! It's not pre-cooked — everything is made to order — so even a single meal felt like it was carefully prepared :)

The order to eat dakdoritang in: rice cakes, vegetables, then chicken
I followed the tips posted on the wall for the tastiest way to enjoy it! First, boil it hard on high heat for 2–3 minutes, then lower to a simmer and pull out the rice cakes first to eat.
- Boil hard on high heat for 2–3 minutes
- Lower to a simmer and eat the rice cakes first
- Then eat in order: vegetables → wings → breast meat → drumsticks
Simmering it gently on low heat let the seasoning soak in deeper, so it got tastier and tastier as we went!

The chicken had no gamey smell and was tender yet chewy — really delicious. Soaking a bowl of rice in the spicy broth and topping it with the meat was heavenly! The broth was spicy and tangy, so I thought it would make a perfect drinking snack too haha.

Free fried gimmari and mandu, and flat mandu dipped in the broth
The fried gimmari and mandu we got as a review event bonus were also delicious dipped in the broth!

Oh, and make sure to add the flat mandu too!! The golden, crispy fried flat mandu dipped generously into the thick, tangy dakdoritang broth was absolutely amazing!

Can you pack leftover dakdoritang at Sottture? Yes, yourself
I wanted to finish with fried rice, but the portion was so generous I felt like I was about to burst! If you ask the staff to pack up the leftover dakdoritang, they'll give you a container so you can wrap it up yourself haha.
Is Sottture Dakdoritang in Cheonan worth it?

I liked that they use domestic chicken, and I enjoyed the tender, chewy texture with no gamey smell! The deep, clean spiciness of the special sauce is the kind of thing that keeps coming to mind 😋 It makes a filling lunch with a bowl of rice, and the spicy, tangy broth is also perfect as a drinking snack haha. The portions were generous and the price was reasonable, so it was a great value meal! Being able to easily pack the leftovers myself made it satisfying right to the end. If you're looking for a spicy, hearty dakdoritang spot in Seongjeong-dong, Cheonan, definitely give 'Sottture Dakdoritang' a try :)
