Cheonan chicken stew eating order, rice cake to drumstick: Sottture
In short
Sottture Dakdoritang is a Korean restaurant in Seongjeong-dong, Seobuk-gu, Cheonan, serving just one dish: dakdoritang (spicy braised chicken stew). Four diners ordered the chicken-and-a-half pot for 45,000 won and ate it in the order the staff recommend — rice cake, vegetables, breast meat, then drumstick — then finished with self-serve cheese fried rice in the reduced broth. Sottture Dakdoritang is worth a trip on a chilly day when you want a fiery broth and soft, crumbly potatoes.

Finding the Sottture Dakdoritang entrance and parking

As the weather got chillier I found myself craving a hot bowl of dakdoritang, so I headed to Sottture Dakdoritang! There's a parking lot behind the restaurant. The bubbling cauldron is such a nice touch!
Inside Sottture Dakdoritang

Let's step inside! The interior is clean and comfortable too. The tables were spaced out nicely, and there was a round table set up in the middle! The spicy dakdoritang smell hits you the moment you walk in — I got hungry immediately, ha.
Sottture Dakdoritang menu and prices

There were four of us, so we ordered the dakhanmarihan (chicken and a half). Dakhanmari (2-3 people) is ₩35,000, dakhanmarihan (3-4 people) is ₩45,000. Since it's a single-menu restaurant, there's nothing to agonize over.

The recommended eating order: rice cake, vegetables, breast, drumstick
- Boil hard on high heat for 2-3 minutes
- Turn down to low heat, then start with the rice cake
- Eat in order: rice cake → vegetables → breast meat → drumstick
- Dip the flat mandu (dumplings) generously into the broth
- Fried rice and instant noodles in the reduced broth are a must!

The reason the chicken meat looks red inside! Apparently it's due to a substance called myoglobin! The chicken is delivered fresh every day, so eat without worry!
Self-serve bar with free extra broth

Here's the self-serve bar! There's broth available too, so you can just add more yourself.
The chicken-and-a-half pot, bubbling at the table

A little while later the dakdoritang arrived. It was incredibly generous. There was way more than just chicken — egg, potato, rice cake, and more.

Let's wait for it to come to a rolling boil.
The egg is kind of cute, isn't it? Haha (my friend said it looks a bit like a baby chick in the stew, so it felt a little creepy). Brutal, haha.

Now it's boiled up nicely! As it boils, the smell really rises up — first I'll eat the rice cake.
So chewy.

The broth gets richer as it reduces
The broth was genuinely delicious! The more it reduces, the deeper the flavor gets!!!! It was spicy with a real savory depth. At first the meat hadn't fully absorbed the seasoning, but the more it simmered, the more the flavor soaked in.

I saved the drumstick for last especially. The meat was tender and well-seasoned! Not dry at all, just soft and juicy — dipped straight into the broth.

The potatoes need to be cooked through fully too. That way they get soft and crumbly and mash easily. The potatoes were just as delicious as the chicken, so I kept eating them.
Making your own cheese fried rice at the end

Once we finished the chicken and the broth reduced down to just a little left, we added the fried rice.

Cheese fried rice. You make it yourself!
My friend made a heart out of it 💗💗💗💗

People who love fried rice eating it twice in one day, haha. Fried rice in the leftover broth is absolutely essential.

And ice cream for dessert _☆
Is Sottture Dakdoritang worth it?
Sottture Dakdoritang is the kind of place that comes to mind when you want a generous, hot-broth chicken meal. The spicy broth, tender chicken, and crumbly potatoes together went really well with rice. Dakdoritang is especially fun to eat with a group, boiling it together at the table, so it seems like a great spot for meals with friends or family. On a day like this when you crave something spicy, nothing really beats dakdoritang 🍗🔥 Sottture Dakdoritang — recommended for a hot, spicy meal!
