Seogwipo Korean restaurant with ginkgo stone-pot rice: Tamra Hansang
In short
Tamra Hansang is a Korean restaurant a 5-minute walk from Olle Market in Seogwipo, Jeju. The small braised cutlassfish set at Tamra Hansang came with mackerel, flounder, cutlassfish and sweet shrimp sashimi, fried cutlassfish, seasoned pork belly, and stone-pot rice with ginkgo nuts and potato, finished with sungnyung (scorched rice tea). A clean dining room, second-floor group seating and a friendly owner made it a meal worth coming back for with parents.

How to find Tamra Hansang and where to park in Seogwipo
I went to Tamra Hansang in Seogwipo, and it was so nice because it was right in front of where we were staying... and Olle Market is only a 5-minute walk away, so it was perfect!
Here's the entrance to Tamra Hansang :) We were staying at Jeju M Hotel, and Tamra Hansang happened to be right in front of our accommodation....🤍 First of all, being so close was great!
The area in front of the restaurant is a no-parking, no-stopping enforcement zone, so you can't park there — but you can use Hotel The M's outdoor parking lot :)

Inside Tamra Hansang: the menu and second-floor group seating
Here's inside Tamra Hansang :) The 1st floor had tables in the hall, and the 2nd floor could be used for groups — the interior was clean, which I liked haha.
Here's the Tamra Hansang menu :) They had everything from set meals to à la carte dishes, and I ordered the braised cutlassfish set! For drinks I got Hallasan Original :)

The side dishes at Tamra Hansang, soy-marinated shrimp included
The side dishes were cabbage salad, soy-marinated shrimp, stir-fried fish cake, seasoned tot (gulfweed), cucumber salad, cabbage kimchi, raw gim (dried seaweed), pickled onion, and a dipping sauce for the fried cutlassfish :) I couldn't believe soy shrimp was included..... They said the raw gim and pickled onion go great wrapped around the mackerel sashimi!
They also gave us wasabi soy sauce and chojang (vinegar-chili sauce) for dipping the sashimi :)
The utensils were kept hygienically, they gave us wet wipes, and they poured water into our cups!

A few pieces of fried cutlassfish and pork belly came out too — the fried cutlassfish was better than I expected, and the sauce went really well with it haha. The pork belly was seasoned like galbi, and it was so good my eyes went wide......!

It had been a while since my husband and I had a somaek (soju-beer mix) with good food to go with it :)

Sashimi included with the set: mackerel, flounder, cutlassfish and sweet shrimp
One great thing about the set is that sashimi comes with it too — mackerel, flounder, cutlassfish, sweet shrimp....! So many of Jeju's signature sashimi fish showed up, which I loved haha.
I took photos in order of flounder, cutlassfish, sweet shrimp, and mackerel sashimi :) The fish was seriously so fresh..... The cutlassfish and mackerel were fresh enough that there wasn't a hint of fishiness, so they were delicious! They kindly explained how to eat the sweet shrimp — hold the tail, press firmly, and suck the meat out with your mouth, and it pops right out. So good haha.

There was sashimi but no wrapping greens, which was a bit disappointing, so I asked if they had any lettuce-type leaves — they said no, but they did have cabbage, so we ate it with that! We also asked for garlic and cheongyang chili peppers to go with it, and it was so good!

We wrapped the mackerel, flounder, and cutlassfish evenly in gim and cabbage and ate through it all — the flavor was, well, wordless... When I first came to Jeju I once had cutlassfish sashimi that was too fishy for me to eat. Tamra Hansang's cutlassfish was different........!

Braised cutlassfish (small): four pieces of fish with radish and potato
Here's the braised cutlassfish (small) :) It comes with about 4 pieces of cutlassfish, along with onion, green onion, radish, and potato, and you can eat it nice and spicy!

The cutlassfish was plump and delicious, and I enjoyed the spiciness a lot haha. I thought it would only have radish, but there was potato in there too, so my husband and I ate it happily — and the broth wasn't too watery, which I loved.🤍
We ate it on top of white rice and it was so good! Cutlassfish has to be the easiest fish to pick apart, right?

Stone-pot rice with ginkgo nuts, and sungnyung to finish
At Tamra Hansang, the rice comes in a stone pot — they scoop all the rice into a bowl for you, then pour water into the pot so you can finish with sungnyung, which is great. The rice itself has ginkgo nuts and potato in it too, so it's a hearty bowl :)

Eat well, finish the sungnyung, and that's it! We were genuinely stuffed after finishing.... It really was a satisfying meal ❤

Is Tamra Hansang worth a return visit with parents?
Tamra Hansang, a Seogwipo spot known for grilled and braised cutlassfish, was clean and close to our accommodation, so I thought it'd be great to bring my parents here — and my husband actually said we should come back with them next time haha.
It's clean and delicious, so I think my parents would love it, and with the group seating, it'd be great for visiting with a bigger group too... Above all, the owner was so kind!!!! We ate really well :)
