Seogwipo bento restaurant: Jungmun bento and fish cutlet set, Jejju

The weather's been so nice lately that my family's been out on outings all the time. Coming home from a day out and still having to put dinner together is exhausting and annoying for anyone, right? So we've gotten in the habit of picking something up on the way home, and this time the takeout from Jejju Donghong Branch — a well-known Donghong-dong spot for Seogwipo bento boxes and group orders — was so good I wanted to write about the dinner we had.

Where is Jejju Donghong Branch, and where do you park?

Jejju Donghong Branch sits at 58-8 Donghongjungang-ro in Donghong-dong, Seogwipo. It's about 10 minutes by car from Jeju Olle Market, and it's near famous southern sightseeing spots like Soesokkak, the Seogwipo Citrus Museum, Wonang Falls, Donnaeko Recreation Forest, and Wind 1947 Kart — perfect if you're staying around here or in downtown Seogwipo!!

There's a public parking lot right in front of the restaurant, so parking is super easy. It's free on weekends and holidays, and free after 6 PM too!! The first 30 minutes are also free, so it's really convenient to order ahead, park here, and go grab it.

I figured a bento specialty shop would have a small dining area, but Jejju Donghong Branch's hall is spotless and actually a really comfortable place to eat in.

Beyond the bento boxes, there are plenty of single dishes too — rice bowls, udon, fried items. Prices are reasonable, so I hear students and solo diners come here a lot. There are especially a lot of salmon dishes, so I'd guess plenty of women stop by for those too. I wanted salmon myself... but since we were eating it later at home in the heat, I ordered something without salmon.

The takeout boxes at Jejju Donghong Branch come in a nice sturdy box, so they're great to carry to the beach, a recreation forest, or wherever you're staying.

We ordered the Jungmun bento along with a shrimp tempura and fish cutlet set. Great as dinner, and it pairs really well with drinks too~ So even though it wasn't on the table originally, we had a glass of soju with it. Eating at home meant no worrying about a designated driver, which was so nice. Everyone should try packing this up and eating it comfortably wherever you're staying.

What comes in the Jungmun bento?

The Jungmun bento at Jejju Donghong Branch comes with spicy stir-fried webfoot octopus, beef bulgogi, fish cutlet, shrimp tempura, yeolmu kimchi (young radish kimchi) with fish cutlet sauce, and cool udon broth — a lineup adults and kids alike can enjoy together.

The yeolmu kimchi looked so refreshing that I put it on top of the rice and tried it first. If the kimchi's good, everything else usually is too. The best!!

Spicy stir-fried webfoot octopus

This spicy octopus stir-fry practically calls for a drink. The sharp, savory sauce makes you want to mix it right into the rice.

Sweet beef bulgogi

My daughter ate almost all of the bulgogi because of the sweet sauce. She was already eating it straight, and once I mixed it into rice, she cleaned the whole bowl!

Piling the bulgogi on rice like this and adding yeolmu kimchi on top is the best combo. You could honestly just eat this as a standalone bulgogi rice bowl.

Reheating the cooled tempura in an air fryer

The shrimp tempura and fish cutlet had cooled down a bit, so I gave them a quick spin in the air fryer — wow!! They came out completely crisp again, like freshly fried.

The fish cutlet is packed with moist pollock inside. It's really good with the special onion sauce that comes with it.

The shrimp tempura pieces are big — just a few of them are plenty filling. This would also make a great side for drinks.

The shrimp tempura comes with a special tangerine-based sauce, and dipping it in makes it even better. Our kid loved it too.

Is the Jungmun bento at Jejju worth ordering?

Thanks to Jejju Donghong Branch — the Donghong-dong favorite for Seogwipo bento group orders — we got to enjoy a comfortable, delicious dinner at home with the family. It's such a great time of year for outings right now. Pack up a tasty bento and try a picnic trip out at the beach, a recreation forest, or a forest trail~
