Cheonan chicken stew with thick rolled omelet: Sottture Dakdoritang

I've been several times, and this is seriously one of the best places to eat in Seongjeong-dong.

Why I came back for chicken stew in Seongjeong-dong

Today, I got the chance to visit Sottture Dakdoritang, a chicken stew spot in Seongjeong-dong, Cheonan. I've been here so many times, and it is just so good. My wife gives it double thumbs-up every single time.

It feels like they worked a tteokbokki (spicy rice cake) sauce base into the dakdoritang (Korean braised chicken stew), and it is seriously delicious. The broth has a little thickness to it, which is totally my style. You guys will really like it too. Especially if you love chicken stew, it's a sure thing. This place is always packed, too, hahaha.

From the parking lot to the restaurant

They have a parking lot, too. Those of you driving know just how convenient that is.

Walk about 100 steps from the parking lot and you'll find this chicken stew restaurant in Seongjeong-dong.

It was an odd time of day, but there were still customers. As expected of a great restaurant!!

A whole chicken for two

For the two of us, we ordered the whole chicken for ₩35,000, which was just right. The broth is so good that I think it would be perfect with drinks, too.

The self-service bar and post-meal ice cream

There's a self-service bar where you can help yourself to more side dishes. They have aprons too, and when the broth gets reduced while you're eating the chicken stew, just pour in the extra broth they have ready here.

You can also have some nostalgic ice cream as a palate cleanser after the meal. The restroom is right outside this way, and the men's and women's restrooms are separate.

I always admire the clever touch of making the egg in the middle look like a chicken, hahaha. There are loads of vegetables, lots of meat, and seriously plenty of broth too. Love that.

I had a hard time holding myself back because I wanted a drink rather than a meal.

A lightly sweet broth like a tteokbokki base

One sip of this incredible broth and ahhh...! No, really, this broth is amazing. It doesn't have that hangover-soup kind of feel; it is slightly sweet somehow. You know what I mean, right? Like I mentioned above, it is a little like a tteokbokki base.

Then I pulled apart a drumstick. Since there were two of us, there were two wings and two drumsticks, just like that. Absolutely nothing to fight over, hahaha.

My wife and I split the egg too.

My wife said it tastes even better if you dip the parts that need more seasoning into the broth while eating, so I put it into practice. Oh, as expected, my wife is right.

Udon noodles and a thick rolled omelet

We also ordered a portion of udon noodles glistening with sheen. And one rolled omelet, too.

The rolled omelet is seriously thick. The texture is incredible. You know when you make a rolled omelet with six or seven eggs and it is really thick and full? It was like that, plus it tasted like the owner had added some secret touch.

Once the seasoning soaks right into the udon noodles, it is unbelievably good.

Yum yum yum. It was so good. We really scraped up every last bit. You know that feeling where it seems such a shame to leave delicious food behind? Hahaha. We truly ate it all. Not because I was worried I'd regret it when I got home, hahaha. I don't regret it because I might gain weight. I've already gained plenty, hahaha.

After finishing, we had ice cream too. A perfect ending. It is great with drinks and great as a meal. Seriously, so delicious.
