Weekend 4pm wheat tteokbokki and fried snacks in Cheongju: Bubu Duri
In short
Bubu Duri Tteokbokki Cheongju Geumcheon Branch is a tteokbokki, fried snack, and sundae (blood sausage) restaurant in Geumcheon-dong, Cheongju. Visiting on a weekend at 4pm, the writer caught a fresh batch of duri tteokbokki, chapsundae (glutinous rice sausage), and vegetable and squid fritters, plus repeat trips to the self-serve odeng (fish cake) broth bar. Gochu (chili pepper) fritters were sold out, but the owner threw in free sweet potato, kim-mari (fried seaweed rice rolls), and mandu fritters to take home.

A tteokbokki gem in Sajik-dong, Cheongju •• [ Bubu Duri Tteokbokki Cheongju Geumcheon Branch ] This place tastes really similar to the tteokbokki I used to eat all the time in middle school, so I visit here pretty often 💛

I showed up around 4pm on the weekend and the tteokbokki was already sold out, so a new batch was being made right there! The visual was seriously mouthwatering, ㄷㄷ

Bubu Duri's tteokbokki is great, but the fritters are honestly the real star, especially the gochu (chili pepper) fritters and vegetable fritters!!!! I was planning to take some gochu fritters home that day but they were sold out... I was so bummed ㅠㅠ

Weekend 4pm atmosphere and the self-serve bar
The interior at Bubu Duri Tteokbokki Cheongju Geumcheon Branch is spacious and clean, perfect for eating in. I visited at 4pm on a weekend and there were quite a few customers having drinks with their snacks - haha. Delivery orders were also coming in constantly, a real proof it's a legit favorite!

The hot odeng (fish cake) broth at the self-serve bar is amazing. I'm a broth fiend so I went back for seconds and thirds without any shame haha

What I ordered and the prices
- Duri Tteokbokki ₩6,000
- Chapsundae ₩6,000
- Vegetable fritters ₩4,000
- Squid fritters ₩4,000
- Drink ₩2,000

If you order over ₩20,000 including the yogurt sherbet, they give you an adorable yogurt piggy bank...! It was a summer event so I'm not sure if it's still running, but haha

They're also running a no-lose lucky draw event, and first prize is the Bubu Sanmaek Set? On the day I visited... someone actually won first prize ㄷㄷ 🥇 So jealous... imagine getting to eat this deliciousness all over again!!!!!!!
Wheat tteokbokki, the real taste test
Freshly made tteokbokki, fritters, and sundae — that's the full snack-food visual right there 🥹🤎 And it's not just about looks, the taste holds up too, seriously.

They warm you up with hot odeng broth first ~

Straight into the tteokbokki — I'm team wheat tteok (rice cake) over rice tteok, and it was so chewy and good. The sweet and spicy sauce soaked right into the rice cakes... incredible ✨ Writing this now is making me crave it again ㅠ

The odeng was also crazy good .. 🤎
Chapsundae: better dipped in tteokbokki sauce than salt
Eating tteokbokki without sundae just feels wrong. The owner was generous, so the chapsundae portion was really hefty too.

Mild flavor... great dipped in salt

Chapsundae is good dipped in salt like this, but personally I like it even more thrown right into the tteokbokki and scooped up with the sauce with a spoon!
Gochu fritters sold out, but free fritters instead
I love drowning tteokbokki in fritters, so I ordered squid fritters and vegetable fritters. When I got sad that the gochu (chili pepper) fritters were sold out, the owner gave me free sweet potato, kim-mari (fried seaweed rice rolls), and mandu fritters... 💛 So thankful. I love you. Ahh!

The vegetable fritters are just as amazing as the gochu ones — these are better with a light dip in soy sauce rather than tteokbokki sauce. The fritter portions were so huge I took the leftovers home. Gonna reheat them in the air fryer and eat them again :) haha 🍀
