Cheongju BBQ for a Sunday dinner with parents: Anmin Yullyang
In short
Anmin Yullyang is a fresh pork charcoal-grill restaurant in the back alley behind Ian Terrace in Yullyang-dong, Cheongju. On a Sunday 5pm reservation for three, the writer and her parents ordered two servings of whole fresh pork belly (15,000 won each), one whole pork neck and hwang doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) at 6,000 won, with staff grilling the meat to about 80 percent before setting it on a mini brazier at the table. The cheese fondue sauce with breadcrumbs and the stew with a whole crab in it were the highlights, and corkage is free, so bringing a good bottle is easy.

Today I visited Anmin (安民), a pork belly restaurant tucked away in a Yullyang-dong alley~ Let's get into my honest review!
Where Anmin Yullyang is and what time it opens
Anmin Yullyang is located in an alley behind Ianterrace in Yullyang-dong, Cheongju. It's open daily from 16:30 to 23:00, with last order at 21:30.

I remember walking through Yullyang-dong before and thinking, ooh, what's this cool-looking place? Turns out it was the entrance to Anmin! The pig illustration is so cute🐷, and the fact that you can't see in from outside gives it a nice private feel.
It's a fresh pork charcoal-grill specialty restaurant.

Is a reservation needed on a Sunday evening?
There's a table-management kiosk at the entrance. We had booked 5pm on a Sunday, and by 7pm the place had filled up and there was already a wait! If it's like this on a Sunday, Fridays and Saturdays must be packed.
As soon as we walked in, my parents were like, wow, a place like this exists? So pretty~! The lighting and interior were really well done, and the overall vibe was lovely.
There are 7 tables seating about 4-6 people, plus a room in the back that can hold up to 10! Looking at the other guests coming in, most of them seemed to have reservations. I'd recommend booking ahead.

Wide tables that made dinner with parents comfortable
You can see how roomy the setup is even with a 4-person table. You know how annoying it is when the table's so small that ordering something like naengmyeon means asking staff to clear this and that just to make space? Here it was so spacious there was no need for that at all. It made for a really comfortable meal with my parents.

The side dishes are set out on the table first! You order through the kiosk next to the table, and they already have shot glasses, wet wipes, small plates, and cups ready, so we didn't have to call the staff over multiple times to ask for things.

The sauces and side dishes were neat and clean.

There's a sauce guide right next to the dishes! The owner told us all the sauces and side dishes are made in-house, so we could eat without worry. Everything was delicious, one after another.

Anmin Yullyang menu and drinks prices
These days places with kiosks often skip the paper menu, but here they still hand you a nicely laid-out menu — nice touch. There are pork sets and à la carte items, plus yukhoe (raw beef tartare)! For sides, there are various stews, meal-finishing dishes, and steamed egg, which you order separately.

They also serve premium liquors like hwayo and bokbunja with dedicated glasses, plus cocktails and highballs.

Going with kids, and free corkage at Anmin Yullyang
It's also great for coming with kids — they provide a kids chair, kids spoon, seaweed, and even dessert. If it's your birthday, they'll even give you a cocktail on the house haha. And corkage is free...!!! It'd be really nice to bring a good bottle and enjoy it with the meat.
⭐️ Service almost on the level of Haidilao... amazing ⭐️
What three of us ordered at Anmin Yullyang
Today, the three of us ordered
Fresh whole pork belly (₩15,000) x2 servings Fresh whole pork neck (₩15,000) x1 serving Hwang doenjang jji'ge' (₩6,000) Rice (₩1,000)
That's what we went with!

The charcoal comes out right after ordering. It looked so good.

Then the vegetables and meat come out together. My parents said the meat quality looked great and were really pleased.
The staff grills the meat for you — and they must be using a good brazier, because even though the fire was going, I didn't feel any heat sitting right next to it!

They told us to try it with just salt first, then try mixing in various sauces. I tried it with just salt, and the meat itself was seriously delicious.

Once cooked through, they place it on the mini brazier like this. It keeps it warm.
I ordered a cocktail too. Isn't it pretty! haha
They grill it to about 80% and give it to you, so you can grill it a bit more yourself if you want.

The best sauce combination: cheese fondue with breadcrumbs
Now let me introduce my favorite combo! Dipping it in myeoljeot sauce (fermented anchovy sauce) with shiitake wasabi or curry bean powder on top was also great. But what really surprised me was the cheese fondue sauce...!!!!! They give you cheese sauce with breadcrumbs, and it was delicious even just scooped up on its own. Dipping the meat in it felt like eating at Outback hahaha — like a fancy family restaurant.

Hwang doenjang jjigae with a whole crab in it
We also ordered the hwang doenjang jji'ge', and it was really good. The crab and bean sprouts made it refreshing, and adding a bit of chopped cheongyang chili gave it a spicy kick that cut right through the richness of the meat! 👍
A whole crab went into it...!!!

Perfect combo ✨
Can you see how much meat is packed inside the crab? I really recommend ordering the doenjang jjigae.

We ordered a bowl of rice and made sul-bap (rice mixed with grilled meat, eaten alongside drinks).

The food was so good the drinks just kept going down...

I was curious about the yukhoe on the grass, so I'll try that next time... We left completely full. My mom and dad were so satisfied, which made me proud too, haha.
Who Anmin Yullyang in Cheongju suits best
You could really feel how much the owner cared about making the meal comfortable. The side dishes were good, the meat was good, and I was really happy with the hwang crab doenjang jjigae too. It's also great for family gatherings. The interior and atmosphere were both so nice that I'm planning to come back soon for a date!
Plus with free corkage, it's a great spot to bring a good bottle for a special occasion. If you're looking for a great pork restaurant in Yullyang-dong, I recommend Anmin (安民)! 😊
