Cheonan pork cutlet restaurant with double plates: Jinsim Wang

In short

Jinsim Wang Donkatsu is a Korean-style pork cutlet restaurant in Buldang-dong, Cheonan, Chungnam. We shared regular and spicy double pork cutlets, along with unlimited soup, lettuce wraps, and self-packing for leftovers. Verdict: a generously portioned meal I would gladly return for—though I already have, haha.

It is right at the big intersection in Buldang-dong, so it immediately catches your eye. There are lots of apartment complexes nearby too, and I saw plenty of people bringing their children out for a meal.

The dining room was much bigger than I expected. Once we chose a table, we checked the menu on the kiosk at our seat.

Jinsim Wang Donkatsu, a well-known spot in Buldang-dong, had a huge menu. From regular pork cutlets to sweet-potato pork cutlets and cheese pork cutlets, it had pretty much every kind you could want. They also had jjolmyeon (chewy spicy noodles), so people seemed to order it in sets quite often. We got the spicy giant pork cutlet double and the regular pork cutlet double! Since they were doubles, I was looking forward to the portions.

I often think of pork cutlets as a great-value meal, but that naturally makes you wonder, “Will it be a bit skimpy?” These days, many places either do not serve soup or charge extra for it. At Jinsim Wang Donkatsu, though, you can help yourself to unlimited warm soup as part of the meal, which was lovely for gently settling the stomach before digging into the cutlets.

Warm soup with pepper

It was especially delicious with a little sprinkle of pepper. It was one of those details that gave you the classic feel of an old-school Korean-style pork cutlet restaurant.

That was not the end of Jinsim Wang Donkatsu’s charm. It also came with lettuce wraps. You might say, “A wrap with pork cutlet?” But just like wrapping grilled meat, it went so well with the cutlet.

The dishes we ordered earlier were the spicy and regular pork cutlet doubles. When we ordered, we asked for the sauces on the side rather than poured over the top, and that is exactly how they served them.

Pork cutlet sauces served separately

Ta-da! The regular sauce and spicy sauce arrived together. You might think, “Is the spicy sauce going to be insanely hot?” But it was not that spicy, haha.

Regular sauce and spicy sauce

The pork cutlets came with rice and a cucumber chili pepper salad, so you could enjoy each component separately according to your taste. There were two cutlets so large they filled the plate and then some, and the amount was honestly enormous. I am a better eater than you might think, but even I had leftovers—so you can probably imagine just how much food there was, haha.

Two pork cutlets filling the plate

We first dipped the cutlet, then chose our preferred sauce, and because it had been freshly fried, it practically melted in the mouth. I think one of Jinsim Wang Donkatsu’s greatest charms has to be its portions. Even the regular size is very generous without ordering a double like we did; our big-eater companion left patting their stomach!

Ordering the regular and spicy pork cutlets separately created a nice cycle: when the regular one started to feel a little rich, I ate the spicy one; then, when that felt hot, I went back to the regular one. It kept making its way into my mouth! The heat was delicious and gently lingered in the mouth, so I think anyone who likes spicy pork cutlets would enjoy it without much debate.

You can self-pack leftover pork cutlet

Of course, because the portions are so big, many people may worry about leaving food behind. There is absolutely no need to worry. They have a separate takeout system, so you can neatly pack your pork cutlets at the self-packing station.

Jinsim Wang Donkatsu in Buldang-dong, Cheonan, was a great restaurant with the full package: generous portions, excellent flavor, friendly service, and a convenient packing system. From the crisp breading and generous soup sides to the sauce-on-the-side service that respects your preference, plus the enormous portions and takeout option, nothing was missing. I think I will come back whenever I crave pork cutlets. Although, honestly, I have been here a lot already, haha.
