Gangseo Korean BBQ for kids who love pork ribs: Ihwajeong
In short
Ihwajeong Galbi Myeongga Magok-Balsan Branch is a Korean barbecue restaurant in Gangseo, Seoul, serving pork and beef ribs near Balsan Station. I paired marinated pork ribs with doenjang-jjigae, rice, and bibim-naengmyeon while the server grilled everything from start to finish. Verdict: a polished, family-friendly choice for pork ribs.

My sister came over recently, and while I was wondering what to do for dinner, I thought, we haven't seen each other in ages—we should eat something delicious! So I looked up a great pork-rib place near Balsan Station that my niece would love. And that is how we ended up at Ihwajeong Galbi Myeongga Magok-Balsan Branch! If you're wondering where to go with kids or for a family gathering, I recommend it! My niece Yebin ate so, so well!!

An elegant interior from the moment we walked in
I'd passed this place so many times and always thought, I really have to try it someday. It's huge! And this time, I finally did. It was even better than I expected!
The moment I opened the door, how should I put it? The interior felt so refined. I was surprised by the spacious room, almost like walking into a gallery, and the very simple decor.

The windows give you a clear view outside, the tables are large, and there is plenty of space between them, so the whole meal felt much more relaxed and comfortable.

Private rooms for group gatherings
Another thing that surprised me was the separate private rooms. It is one of the few large Korean barbecue restaurants near Balsan and Magok Stations, and since it has not been open long, is delicious, and has such a nice atmosphere, it seems people are already visiting for everything from company dinners to group gatherings.

With rooms set apart in such an elegant space, you can focus a little more on your gathering. It felt perfect for group company dinners and family occasions! For reference, private rooms can be reserved in advance for 6 to 8 people.

Ribs and table-tablet ordering
As you can probably tell from its name, Ihwajeong Galbi Myeongga Magok-Balsan Branch is known for delicious galbi (Korean-style ribs).

Its marinade is especially deeply savory thanks to fruit pears! There are both beef ribs and pork ribs, so it is easy to order according to your preference.

You can check all the other dishes on the tablet at your table, too. No need to call over a staff member—just press a button here and your order goes in :)

Thick marinated pork ribs that my niece loved
I chose it for our family meal because my niece loves marinated pork ribs and eats them so well, and it must have suited Yebin's taste because she ate so much!

The moment our order arrived, I could tell the quality of the pork was different. And the portion was not small, either!

Oh, and another great thing here is that the charcoal is excellent too! A server is assigned to each table and grills the meat directly, from beginning to end!!!

They use pork collar, cutting it thick before marinating it, and wow—the meat was really substantial.

Then the next thing that surprised me was the marinade itself. Pork-rib marinade is so important, and this was not overpowering, overly sweet, or salty! It was clean enough that you could taste the meat itself. Instead of an artificial sugary sweetness, organic pear is blended in and the meat is aged, giving it a gentle, deep flavor and natural savoriness. Once you taste it, you really think, wow, this is different.

So it stayed delicious bite after bite without becoming too rich. The real point is how clean your mouth feels even after you finish!
The ribs were really thick, yet not tough at all—so soft and tender! I heard they are cross-aged for 144 hours. The texture was so tender that I could hardly believe these were the same thick ribs I had seen at the start. It was pork galbi I enjoyed so much for the first time in ages.

A full spread with doenjang stew and bibim naengmyeon
Pork ribs alone would have felt a little incomplete, so we added carbs, haha. We ordered doenjang-jjigae (soybean-paste stew), a bowl of rice, and bibim-naengmyeon (spicy mixed cold noodles)—such a knowledgeable-foodie combination.

By the way, the complimentary side dishes were very neat, too. It all came out as a spread that made us feel truly looked after, fitting for an important, formal gathering! The ingredients in the salad and scallion salad were fresh as well, with that lovely crisp bite.

Oh, and the naengmyeon here is fantastic too. When you go for pork or beef ribs, it is one of those desserts you simply cannot leave out! It is so disappointing when the noodles are not what you expected, but these were pleasantly chewy, and above all, the seasoning was delicious. It paired perfectly with the pork ribs.

Pear sherbet came out as the final dessert, and that was a real treat too! Since they use organic pear in the marinade, I was impressed that they thoughtfully served pear sherbet for dessert as well. It finished the meal with a clean, cool feeling—really, nothing could have done the job better. Pear is good for digestion, too, so I was happy in every way. My niece ate so well, and I think we'll come here now and then for future family gatherings!
