Danyang chicken for sharing: Danyang Heukmaneul Nurungji Dakgangjeong

A must-try snack on a trip to Danyang~! It’s Danyang black garlic dakgangjeong (sweet, crispy Korean fried chicken bites). It’s so famous that people line up and up! Black garlic bread is famous too, but black garlic dakgangjeong is incredibly popular as well~! We couldn’t miss it, so we lined up and got some to go~

Danyang Gungjeong Market dakgangjeong, Danyang Heukmaneul Nurungji Dakgangjeong~! Since it can get crowded, calling ahead before visiting is one option~ There are so many people waiting that it’s common to order and come back 30 minutes later to pick it up. That must be proof of how good it is, right???

Choosing both black garlic and nurungji flavors after sampling

They have samples set out in front for you to try. There are two menu options: nurungji dakgangjeong and black garlic dakgangjeong. You can’t buy them as a half-and-half box. But you can taste them first before deciding, so take your time choosing. Still, we were greedy and picked both flavors~!

Double black garlic dakgangjeong

The double black garlic dakgangjeong lets you properly enjoy the deep flavor of black garlic. It looks like it might be spicy, but it has a pleasantly spicy kick, so it’s easy to enjoy~!

Original nurungji dakgangjeong

Original nurungji dakgangjeong~! Rather than the intense black garlic flavor, this is delicious Danyang Gungjeong Market dakgangjeong enjoyed with garlic toppings. It also has nurungji (scorched rice crisps) in it, so it’s wonderfully crunchy~! I loved that there was a place where you could sample it like this. They don’t make you feel awkward even if you eat a lot, haha. Both were so good that choosing was difficult!

They also have black garlic makgeolli (Korean rice wine). Apparently, it has an excellent sweet taste. You can buy it as a set of two bottles~!

Danyang Gungjeong Market dakgangjeong~! It’s such a tasty menu item that brings out Danyang’s local character, so even if you’re just passing by, please stop in and give it a try~!

Samples and the nurungji-making process

There were plenty of dakgangjeong samples prepared, but because so many people were tasting them, they disappeared quickly~ Right beside them, they were busily making nurungji. It was fascinating to see how the nurungji was made by machine!

They refilled the sampled dakgangjeong right away after so many people tried it. And it really is a genuine good restaurant that has appeared on lots of TV programs~! When a place has been featured on TV, it catches your eye one more time, doesn’t it?

Packed dakgangjeong shared with family at home

Danyang’s famous black garlic nurungji dakgangjeong, received after a long wait~! Danyang Gungjeong Market dakgangjeong~! We came home intending to share it all together. Dakgangjeong is delicious fresh from the fryer, of course, but it was also great packed up as a snack during the trip, and still delicious once we got home~! I think it’s the perfect snack while traveling in Danyang~!

On the way home, we heard there was a place with delicious makgeolli, so we bought some separately to have with it~! Bringing home both flavors like this was perfect for the whole family to share~

For the big pieces, we used scissors to cut them into easy-to-eat sizes~ The sauce was really delicious. This time we packed it up to enjoy with the whole family at home, but if you’re traveling in Danyang, I think it would also be great as a snack here and there during your trip~!

Closing day and hours

They even had delicious lotus root~! They’re closed every Tuesday, and hours are 9 AM to 7 PM, so keep that in mind when you plan your takeaway. If, when looking for good food on a trip, you prefer finding something you can taste specifically in that area rather than simply famous food, I recommend Danyang black garlic dakgangjeong~!
